Acorn was built so that communities have their own space to organize, moderate, and engage with each other and the larger Blacksky community.

We launched our new self-sign-up tier, which lets you create a feed, add members, and more! This tool's backend dashboard has all the perks needed to manage a community, but you can access your feeds and engage with your people from our mobile app (link in bio 👀)!

You can check out the tiers at acorn.blacksky.community -- we want YOU 🫵🏾 to be in charge of how you experience social media. by @blacksky.app

What started out as an answer to a problem grew into a possibility model for digital freedom. Meet the team behind Blacksky Algorithms. Rudy Fraser, Founder and CEO, made an intentional choice to bring in people who were values-aligned, risk-takers, and ready to shift what we know as a virtual third space. The core team has been working alongside Rudy and his vision by contributing their expertise, thought partnership, and desire to dream freely with no ceilings. More now than ever, Blacksky has something to say and the team to take Blacksky to greater heights with limitless possibilities.

Community is at the center of Blacksky, and the team makes sure to center that core value in all that we do.

Last week, some of the Blacksky team attended atproto.nyc community day. This yearly event is an opportunity for Blacksky and others on AT Protocol to share what they have been working on, network, and strengthen the larger ecosystem!

Our Head of Product, Marisa @marisarando , did a closing talk titled “Coalition Building on the Protocol: A Collaborative Roadmap,” where she shared Blacksky’s vision and how this is the prime time for coalition building across ATproto.

JD @thezodiacheironig, our Head of Trust and Safety, led an interactive workshop called “There is Safety in Context,” where they unpacked the nuance around community moderation, then challenged us all to put it in practice with fictional communities during the workshop.

Moments like this are important to our larger belief around the power of coalition building.

At Blacksky Algorithms, one of our core values is to provide infrastructure for other communities to be able to convene in a digital third space that is curated to their needs.

With Acorn, your community can build on a platform that is customizable with badges, roles, moderation, and even personalized feeds that allow you all to talk about the things that are most important to your community.

To learn more about Blacksky and what we are building, check out this amazing conversation with @ajescoffery from @theinvite.project and our Head of Community, Dr. Kay Coghill.

You can also sign up your community today at acorn.blacksky.community, and of course we would love to see you over on our app blacksky.community! by @blacksky.app

This is my last post of 2025 and yes it’s about #TheCultureDocent 😌.

Technically I’m on break so no new episodes this week, but as promised I’m continuing to share because I’ve been slacking.

If you’re heavy on socials, then no doubt you’ve heard of Bluesky. And if you know *us* then you know we always create a space for our own. Last week I had the opportunity to chop it up with Rudy Fraser, CEO of Blacksky Algorithms. Rudy not only shared his experience with the challenges you face when intentionally creating safe Black spaces, but gave his perspective on what anyone can do when looking to shake some sh*t up in their industry.

Check out the conversation (anywhere you listen to podcasts, because you know we’re everywhere now 😌).
