i had a great time hosting the 2nd official @gdocexpo NYC watch party at @os_newyorkcity , presented by @madein_ny !!

every year i'm thankful for this opportunity to present exciting games created by people of color, but this year was extra special because i also had a brief opportunity to showcase @blacksky.app and help others move to the open social web 🥰

we had two members from the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment speak at the event: the first was a return guest from last year, alia jones-harvey 💕 and the second was the commissioner from MOME, rafael espimal 🤯

super greatful that both took time out of their week to make an appearance at the event and incredibly thankful to @madein_ny for their long-time support of #gdocexpo events and grants 😇

this year, we awarded two $7,000 grants funded by @madein_ny to @coalescent_tidal.rapture & bloomsome, as well as a $7,000 grant funded by @nomorerobots to @imissmyfriends.studio 😊

all of the grants are no-strings-attached, meaning the devs can use the money to work on their next project, expand their team, build new DLC for their existing game, or even just to take a relaxing spa day 🤭

grants like these allow flexibility and freedom for devs to focus on creativity over crunch and help make the gaming ecosystem more sustainable overall 🥰

I'm excited to share that this year at MozFest I have the honor of moderating "Pushing through the Concrete," a showcase of technological innovation and alternatives to the broligarchs.

With presentations by founder & CEO, Blacksky Algorithms, @blacksky.app Rudy Fraser; founder of MakerBay Cesar Harada, CEOs of @thaura.ai Thaura.ai, Said and Hani Chihabi; Executive Director of @ushahidi Ushahidi, Angela Oduor Lungati; and Professor of Communications Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Min Jiang; we will explore the policies, technologies and practices that help us build the worlds we want to see.

The people on this stage are already showing us what different technological futures can look like: a social network built around Black community governance, civic technology designed for crisis response, tools for ocean and climate resilience, infrastructure shaped by communities rather than platforms, and research exposing where dominant systems fail.

These are pollinators; builders, researchers, and organizers testing alternatives in the real world and asking what it would take for them to become the norm rather than the exception.

Meet Rudy Fraser, CEO of @blacksky.app, one of the voices joining #DecidimFest26!

On 30 October, as part of our shared day with #MozillaFestival at @fabraicoatsbcn, we’ll bring together activists, technologists and grassroots organisers to ask a crucial question:

What is to be done?

🎤 Roundtable: What is to be done: strategies and tactics for a new (geo)political landscape
📅 30 October 2026 | 12:15–13:30h
📍 Room Joe Forga - Ateneu L’Harmonia — Fabra i Coats, Barcelona

We know what we want to move away from: a world, and an internet, shaped by a few, where capital, coloniality and geopolitical power define our present and future.

But how do we actually get somewhere else?

This roundtable will bring the conversation down to the ground, looking at how grassroots communities and social movements are already building alternatives, organising collectively, communicating differently and shaping technology while navigating an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.

More participants and programme announcements coming soon.

Staying low and building is NOT community centered, so I’m back and I’m ready to share what I’ve been working on the last 2 years. @blacksky.app is a vision made into a reality by @rude1.blacksky.team & the entire Blacksky team.

@blacksky.app is where you’ll find me most, it’s where you should be, and it’s where digital freedom is possible.

+ collective intelligence (- purity), + possibility (- fear), and probably a lot + mess. 🌞

ES en los comentarios! 🫶🏽

Radical Data was invited to take part in The People vs AI, bringing our community-based and affirmative take on technology to a panel with other brilliant creatives and lovely people as @thepeoplevsai.nl and @blacksky.app 💪🏽👾

Rayén was asked what really needs to change if we want a radically different technological future. Our answer was: we need better bridges, and we need to get more comfortable with mess. 🎨📡

First, hackers, social movements, artists and communities usually treated as “non-technical” need to spend much more time in the same room. ✊🏽🫀

Technical knowledge is not the only knowledge that matters. There is knowledge in lived experience, care networks, popular education, queer cultures, DIY practices and in the ways colonised communities have learned to organise, survive and create, and in what older generations already learned long before AI became the media’s favourite crisis. 🤖📺

Second, we need to drop the idea that everything has to be rational, clean, linear and easy to classify. The mess is not the problem. The mess is often where the good stuff happens: strange alliances, informal knowledge, mutual aid, improvisation, contradiction, joy and ideas that do not fit neatly into existing boxes. 🍲🍯

We also need to make space for invention. For other stories, other practices, other technologies and other ways of living with them. 🌱

Resistance matter, but we cannot spend all our energy reacting to whatever Big Tech throws at us next. A different technological future will not come from making the current one slightly less awful. 🤑👀

+ collective intelligence (- purity), + possibility (- fear), and probably a lot + mess. ✨🐦‍🔥

Bridget Todd, host of the podcast “There Are No Girls on the Internet”, and Rudy Fraser, creator of Blacksky Algorithms, join Rabble on this week’s episode, recorded live at @sxsw 2026 in Austin, Texas.

Their conversation centers on the big question: How do we break free from algorithmic binds?

Even as platforms like Instagram experiment with giving users more control over their algorithms, the underlying systems remain centralized, shaping what we see and create online.

In this episode, they discuss:
🧠 What “algorithmic binds” are & how they shape what we consume online
🎨The evolution of the creator economy
🎤 Why podcasting may be the most democratic form of social media
⚖️ How to build a more equitable internet
🛠️ What it looks like to build user-controlled systems like Blacksky

Listen to the full conversation on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

This is my last post of 2025 and yes it’s about #TheCultureDocent 😌.

Technically I’m on break so no new episodes this week, but as promised I’m continuing to share because I’ve been slacking.

If you’re heavy on socials, then no doubt you’ve heard of Bluesky. And if you know *us* then you know we always create a space for our own. Last week I had the opportunity to chop it up with Rudy Fraser, CEO of Blacksky Algorithms. Rudy not only shared his experience with the challenges you face when intentionally creating safe Black spaces, but gave his perspective on what anyone can do when looking to shake some sh*t up in their industry.

Check out the conversation (anywhere you listen to podcasts, because you know we’re everywhere now 😌).
