👥: What does the process look like when creating a new design?

👩🏾‍💻: Let me show you.

@blackvibetribe’s latest design pays homage to the Adinkra symbols that originate from Ghana, with the highlight being on Sankofa - which translates to go back and get it.

This resonates with me for many reasons.

👉🏾 Growing up, my parents taught me about our roots and village values that hail from tribes in Africa. Teaching me that our history spans far greater than being enslaved. Teaching me of the times in which we were empowered. In their words, they would teach me that we must honor our roots, to plant the seeds for the future 🌱

👉🏾 Assata Shakur once said, “No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them. Nobody is going to teach you your true history, teach you your true heroes, if they know that that knowledge will help set you free.” It is our responsibility to self educate and reflect. If not us, then who?

👉🏾 We can learn from yesterday, just as we can learn from decades and centuries ago. Sankofa pushes us to acknowledge these teachings and lessons from the past to guide us on our paths in current time. We gain from observing.

This concept is much greater than me. It’s a love letter to the ones I derive from, that have laid the path in which I am following 🩷 by @blackvibetribe

For those of you who followed our Black Maternal Health Campaign in July, you should be very familiar with Tianna Madison @tianna.t.madison, 3x Olympic Gold Medalist and mother to Kai, a NICU warrior who was born at 26 weeks and spent 73 days in the hospital after a traumatic birth where Tianna nearly died.

Tianna has been very vocal about the Black Maternal Health Crisis in America and has utilized her platform to rally for change, advocate for Black, birthing women, and offer transparent insight into her birthing story and journey of motherhood.

In this feature with @sheknows and @pfizerinc, she not only shares her truth, but boasts our “Black Maternal Health” shirt while doing it 🖤 by @blackvibetribe
