Todd Weaver went from earning $4 an hour on a construction site at 12 years old to leading a Black-owned construction enterprise expected to approach $1 billion in revenue in 2026.
.
Weaver got his start in Missouri picking up trash, pulling weeds and completing other jobs around a construction site. More than four decades later, that early exposure to the industry has grown into something much larger.
.
Today, Weaver leads DGN Enterprise, a construction group spanning five companies and employing approximately 585 people.
.
His companies have completed work for major corporations including Google, Microsoft, Apple, Pfizer and World Wide Technology, with data center construction helping fuel the enterprise’s latest wave of growth.
.
What makes this story powerful isn’t simply the revenue. It’s the progression from working on a construction site as a child to eventually building and owning companies capable of competing for major projects with some of the largest corporations in the world.
.
There is a difference between working in an industry and eventually building ownership within that industry. Skills, relationships and experience accumulated over decades can become the foundation for creating businesses, jobs and generational wealth.
.
From $4 an hour to a construction enterprise approaching $1 billion in annual revenue, Todd Weaver’s journey is another reminder that where you begin does not have to determine where you finish.

Billionaires Are Buying Farmland. Land Ownership Is More Important Than Ever
•
This is what self-sufficiency can look like: owning land, growing your own food, and creating an ecosystem that can provide nourishment and opportunity for your family.
•
Across America, farmland and land in general continue to attract wealthy investors, corporations, and billionaires. Bill Gates has become one of the country’s largest private farmland owners, while Jeff Bezos has accumulated hundreds of thousands of acres of land.
•
There’s a reason wealth continues to pursue land. Land is a tangible asset that can produce food, generate income, appreciate in value, and be passed from one generation to the next.
•
For the Black community, land ownership carries an even deeper significance. Generations of Black families lost millions of acres of land throughout the 20th century, making the conversation about acquiring and preserving land directly connected to rebuilding generational wealth.
•
Growing your own food can also create another level of independence by giving families greater control over where their food comes from and what ultimately reaches their table.
•
As billionaires, corporations, and investors continue acquiring land, we should be asking ourselves: What are we acquiring today that our children and grandchildren can build upon tomorrow?

A Baltimore pastor turned 1,500 square feet of church lawn into something much bigger than a garden—a community food system connecting families with fresh produce and Black farmers with customers.
.
Rev. Heber Brown III started growing vegetables at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church in Baltimore in 2010 after becoming concerned about diet-related health problems affecting members of his congregation.
.
Instead of only talking about healthier eating, he used the land available to his church to help make fresh food more accessible to the people around him.
.
By 2015, Brown began connecting with Black farmers outside the city and inviting them to bring their produce directly into Baltimore. The effort helped create a model where churches could become distribution points, allowing fresh food to reach communities while creating another market for Black farmers.
.
What began with 1,500 square feet of church property eventually helped inspire the Black Church Food Security Network—using churches, their land and their congregations to strengthen the connection between Black farmers and Black communities.
.
This is what community ownership can look like: using the resources already within our institutions to address problems, circulate dollars and create systems that strengthen both families and Black-owned agriculture.
.
Sometimes building stronger communities starts by looking at what we already own and asking, “How can we use this differently?”

Follow: @diamondcutmedia Navient, once one of the largest federal student loan servicers in the country, has reached a $120 million settlement with the CFPB and is now permanently banned from servicing federal student loans. The CFPB alleges Navient misled borrowers about income-driven repayment plans, botched payment processing, damaged the credit of disabled borrowers (including severely injured veterans), deceived borrowers about cosigner release requirements, and misled borrowers about loan rehabilitation and credit score improvements. Navient must pay a $20 million penalty and provide $100 million in relief to impacted borrowers.

MOHELA has also been banned from servicing thousands of student loans and is required to transfer or sell those accounts. The Dept. of Education has stopped assigning new borrower accounts to MOHELA. The company has been accused of fraudulent, unethical, and misleading servicing practices.

Nelnet has faced multiple lawsuits and legal actions as well. The Massachusetts Attorney General secured a $1.8 million settlement after alleging Nelnet failed to properly communicate income-driven repayment recertification deadlines to borrowers. The company has also been hit with class-action lawsuits over a 2022 data breach affecting more than 2.5 million borrowers, alleged miscalculations of repayment amounts (especially under IDR plans), incorrect credit reporting, and mishandling of CARES Act relief.

Master P shared a powerful conversation with his son Mercy Miller about success, health, family and the importance of making the most of the time we’re given.
.
“You can get money back, but you can’t get time.” It’s a simple message, but one that becomes increasingly important as we grow older and realize that wealth is about much more than what we accumulate financially.
.
Master P reminded his son that putting in the work is important to becoming successful, but also emphasized that health, family and the memories created along the journey matter just as much.
.
Money can be lost and rebuilt. Businesses can fail and be started again. Opportunities can come and go. But the time we have with the people we love is something we can never recover once it passes.
.
Building wealth is important, but so is building relationships, protecting your health and being present enough to create memories with your family along the way.
.
The goal should be to build a life where success doesn’t come at the expense of the people and moments that make the success worth having.

Home Depot Senior Executive Vice President Ann-Marie Campbell’s journey from earning $3.35 an hour as a cashier to becoming one of the company’s highest-ranking executives is a powerful example of what decades of consistency and perseverance can build.
.
Campbell, a Jamaican immigrant living in South Florida, joined Home Depot in 1985 as a cashier while pursuing her college education. What started as a job to help pay for school eventually became a career spanning more than four decades.
.
Over the years, she continued climbing the ranks—from cashier to sales associate, department supervisor, store manager, district manager, regional vice president and eventually executive leadership.
.
Today, Campbell serves as Home Depot’s Senior Executive Vice President, with an annual salary reportedly north of $1 million.
.
Her career history recently gained attention online after people praised it as the “perfect LinkedIn profile”—a progression showing more than 40 years of growth within the same company.
.
From $3.35 an hour behind the register to more than $1 million a year in the executive suite, her story is a reminder that your starting position doesn’t have to determine your final destination.
.
Consistency, preparation and taking advantage of opportunities can compound over a career just like money can compound over time.

“It wasn’t my boundary to understand. It was my boundary to respect.” That’s a lesson that can save friendships and protect relationships. 💯
.
@yourfriendtrin_ shared an experience where a close friend asked her to stop texting her husband. She explained that the conversations were innocent—even involving simple iMessage games—so initially, she felt offended. She wondered why someone who knew her well would question her intentions.
.
But after sitting with it, she realized her friend’s boundary wasn’t necessarily an accusation against her character. Her intentions could be completely innocent while her friend could still decide what she was comfortable with inside her own marriage.
.
That realization changed her response. Instead of demanding that her friend change the boundary to make her feel trusted, she apologized, stopped the communication, and respected the marriage.
.
That’s maturity. We don’t have to personally agree with every boundary someone establishes to understand that healthy relationships require respect. Sometimes loving your friends well means caring more about protecting their relationship than proving that your intentions were harmless.
.
You can have feelings about someone’s boundary without requiring them to abandon it because of those feelings. 💚
.
Would you have respected the boundary, or would you have felt like your friend didn’t trust you? 👇🏾

From “Pop The Balloon” to the altar! 💍❤️
.
What started as a connection on “Pop The Balloon” has turned into something much bigger as the couple officially tied the knot and became Mr. and Mrs. Daniels.
.
In an era where dating shows often become more about viral moments than lasting relationships, it’s refreshing to see a connection move beyond the cameras and social media into a commitment to build a life together.
.
Finding someone is only the beginning. Marriage is where two people make the decision to continue choosing one another, growing together, and building something designed to last beyond the excitement of how they first met.
.
We love seeing Black love progress from dating to commitment, marriage, and building a family legacy together. ❤️
.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Daniels on this new chapter! 💍👏🏾

A Black emergency room nurse is using her medical knowledge to make healthcare education exciting and accessible for children. 🩺💕
.
Known as Nurse Dolly, the registered nurse created “Mini Med School with Nurse Dolly,” an educational YouTube show designed to introduce children to medicine, healthcare, and the human body in a fun and age-appropriate way.
.
Content like this does more than teach children how their bodies work. It gives young viewers an opportunity to see a Black healthcare professional teaching medicine and potentially imagine themselves becoming nurses, physicians, surgeons, scientists, or other healthcare professionals one day.
.
Exposure can plant seeds early. A child watching a medical lesson today could become the healthcare professional caring for our communities tomorrow.
.
We love seeing Black professionals take the knowledge they’ve gained through their careers and create educational resources that pour it back into the next generation. 🩺💚
.
Let’s show Nurse Dolly some support!
