The Academy of Jiu Jitsu finished the night 1-1 at Men of War, with both competitors putting on great performances and showcasing the continued evolution of their games!

@justin_hertler secured an impressive submission victory via toe hold, a technique he consistently sharpens and executes in the training room. It’s always rewarding to see hard work and preparation translate into success on the competition mats!

@blaisesardanelli stepped up against a seasoned brown belt competitor and accomplished wrestler, proving he belongs at that level. Blaise attacked a kimura, which his opponent countered with an armbar. After successfully escaping the initial submission attempt, his opponent transitioned back into the attack and secured the finish.

That’s the reality of competition. Sometimes you come out on top, and sometimes you walk away with valuable lessons. Every match, win or lose, is an opportunity to learn, improve, and grow.

We’re proud of both of these guys for stepping onto the mats, challenging themselves, and representing the Academy with heart and determination.

There’s no doubt Blaise will take this experience, make the necessary adjustments, and come back stronger. We’re looking forward to seeing him back in action next week at the ADCC Open!

Congratulations to both competitors on their performances. The work continues! #jiujitsu #bjj #nogi #submissiononly by @blaisesardanelli

In 2025 I saw an alligator
Fed a alpaca
Got my rabbit a life saving surgery
Lost my first match
But Competed at one of the highest levels of grappling
Learned a bunch about competing, myself and what I can do in this life
Reminded myself that life is the best and wouldn’t have it any other way.
And now Starting this year off strong and going all the way this time! Here’s to 26 by @blaisesardanelli

Stoked and honored to be sponsored by @coronatoskitchen ! Their meals have been a staple in my nutrition for as long as I can remember. Through my powerlifting days, the 16-hour shifts at work, and now fueling my jiu-jitsu camps. Consistency is everything, and their meals make staying locked in effortless. Proud to represent another great team!

This weekend was a win. I showed up, trained my ass off, made it down here, and gave the best version of myself that exists right now. My coaches keep reminding me, I’m only three years into this, with a whole lifetime ahead. And the truth is, I know I can hang with anyone, whoever you put in front of me on those mats.

Huge thank you to Kory and Vinny for traveling all the way to Orlando to corner me, and to Baila and Sarah for having my back the whole weekend. And Lex, you’ve been in my corner since my powerlifting days and you’re still here through every storm. That means everything.

And for anyone waiting on me to quit… ask yourself, “Is Blaise quitting?” Then check the last slide. taken in The Academy of Jiu Jitsu by @blaisesardanelli

Tomorrow the team and I step onto the mats for the second most prestigious tournament in grappling: the ADCC Trials. All for a shot at the ADCC Worlds. I truly believe this is the start of my competitive career, and the start of a long road. Keep on keeping on. Forever pushing! taken in Orlando, Florida by @blaisesardanelli
