57d. The whole day I felt on the verge of something happening; but it all just went as usual. #karantinokronikos #quarantinedrawing by @blamecake

This little editorial commission from @hard_hoofd went really smoothly, mainly thanks to the art direction from @hannekerozemuller and because of the connection I felt with the story I had to illustrate: a very atmospheric absurdist story from Jesse Kuijper. We encounter a deceased data center worker and, surprisingly, no one knows what to do with it and no one is really bothered by it, but at the same time the whole center’s livelihood is mysteriously connected to that corpse. I believe current techno anxieties meeting body horror really connected with my drawing aesthetics. by @blamecake

Thanks, @mashushka, for inviting me to make some drawings for the new @wobbyclub issue #43! 🌱
Soon after I first arrived in the Netherlands, I stumbled across a stack of Wobby zines in one of those little public book-sharing shelves and greedily took a few home. I never imagined I’d one day have my own work in its pages.
I’m happy to see my drawings alongside the work of the wonderful @roman_m and so many other amazing artists, with a beautiful cover by @ramandjafari. 🧚
My contribution look especially dreamy printed in these luminous colours.
I also have a small edition of Theater of Self printed in lavender ink. I’d love to trade one for another artwork—or if you’d like to buy one, send me a message. by @blamecake

A selection of work by Rotterdam-based illustrator Julija Panova @blamecake. Of Lithuanian-Russian heritage, Panova’s work is informed by that layered cultural inheritance as growing up between cultures shaped her sensitivity to shifting narratives. Her work explores folklore, quiet, and images that feel suspended between past and present.

Panova holds a Master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague and has a background in book design and printmaking. She works primarily in digital media, recreating the tactile, atmospheric qualities of graphite and traditional printmaking through slow, intricate hatching and subtle tonal gradients.

Julija Panova participated in our 2025 Booooooom Illustration Awards and made our longlist. See more on our site. Link in bio. by @blamecake

Really happy to share that my first @booooooom submission was longlisted ✨
Two of my images made the long list — one in the Personal category and one in Advertising & Promotional with my contribution for Déborder Bolloré project.
