These divided dishes will always have a special place in my heart.

They remind me of my dad, who passed away 20 years ago this year. Every time I carefully fit the divider into one of these bowls, I think of how much he would have liked using one while eating his pistachios. He always used 2 separate bowls.

That’s why I put so much care into making them. Some pieces are more than pottery—they’re memories made tangible.

If you’re new around here, hi! I’m Gretchen. 👋🏻

I’m the person behind Blazed Clay Pottery—a little home pottery studio where I make things I think are useful, pretty, and sometimes just plain fun.

My background is in counseling, so I never expected pottery to reveal the engineer hiding inside me. 😂 But apparently, she was in there all along.

These days, you’ll find me making pottery, experimenting with glazes, opening kilns with very specific expectations, and occasionally being humbled by said kiln (her name’s Burnice).

I like pottery that gets used. The mug you reach for every morning. The little dish that somehow ends up holding everything. The thing you didn’t know you needed until you saw it.

And there’s usually my studio assistant (aka my dog) somewhere nearby, supervising. 🐶

So if you like handmade pottery, behind-the-scenes studio life, pretty glazes, slightly questionable experiments, and a little humor along the way…

Welcome to Blazed Clay. I’m glad you’re here! 🧡 taken in Peachtree City, Georgia by @blazedclaypottery

Ever wondered how these little butter bells actually work? 👀

I’ve had people ask about them, so I thought I’d show you—straight from loading it up to spreading that perfectly soft butter on toast.

No big tutorial. Just a little look at how I use mine. 🧈

And yes… I made the butter bell, but I’m pretty sure the toast deserves some credit too. 😂 taken in Peachtree City, Georgia by @blazedclaypottery

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” — Ferris Bueller

Life has been moving a little fast around here lately. So today, I’m reminding myself to slow down and enjoy the little things.

Like a good cup of coffee, a pretty bowl of breakfast, and a few minutes to just sit and be.

Sometimes it’s not about anything big. Sometimes it’s just breakfast. ☕️🧡

Are you a coffee-and-breakfast-at-home person, or are you grabbing yours on the go? ☕️

Sometimes, a glaze firing turns out… just okay. 🤷🏻‍♀️

These four plates were originally identical, but I wasn’t completely happy with how they turned out.

So, instead of giving up on them, I decided to experiment! I tried four different reglazing techniques and combinations to see if I could get a result I liked better.

Will it work? No idea! That’s part of the fun of pottery.

Now it’s time to fire them again and see what happens!

Which plate do you think will turn out the best? 👀 taken in Peachtree City, Georgia by @blazedclaypottery

The tiniest mixing bowl in my kitchen might be one of my most-used pieces. 🤎

It’s about the size of a mug, but the shape makes it perfect for mixing just the right amount of something.

Protein pancake mix? ✔️
Salad dressing? ✔️
Matcha? ✔️
A little something else? Probably. 😂

I love pottery that actually gets used, and this little bowl definitely does. taken in Peachtree City, Georgia by @blazedclaypottery

I decided to try liquid latex instead of my usual wax resist on the inside of this butter dish. My goal was to keep that edge nice and clean.

Well… the liquid latex had other plans. 😂

It was SO difficult to get off. I honestly have no idea if I applied it wrong, didn’t let it dry enough, or if I just need more practice with it.

So… liquid latex users: what did I do wrong?! 😂

Could definitely be user error!

Stay till the end to see how it turned out. 👀 taken in Peachtree City, Georgia by @blazedclaypottery

These were leftover flowers from Jamie, and yesterday I decided to put them in a few of my vases.

And then I lost track of time.

Two hours later, I had flowers everywhere and apparently a whole new appreciation for my vases. 😂

There was something really lovely about slowing down, playing with the flowers, trying different combinations, and just enjoying the process.

Not everything has to be productive. Sometimes you can just put flowers in pots and see what happens. 🌿

And honestly? It was a pretty great way to spend part of my birthday. taken in Peachtree City, Georgia by @blazedclaypottery

I tried taking video while I was making these marbled mugs because I wanted to show you how the marbling comes together.

And…I just couldn’t get a good shot.

Until I cut them off the bats.

Suddenly, there it was. 😂

I pulled a few of them out of the kiln today, and I love seeing how that marbling looks after the glaze firing.

Ever wonder how those little teeth get made?

I make each one by hand, pressing this little tool into the clay to create the texture that actually does the grating.

It’s one of those tiny steps that makes a functional piece of pottery…functional. 🧄

Thank you for another amazing market! 🧡

I love seeing familiar faces, catching up with returning customers, and meeting so many new people. Yesterday was such a good day, and I’m so grateful for everyone who stopped by my booth and took a little piece of Blazed Clay Pottery home with them.

I’ll be back at the Senoia Farmers Market on October 17th. Hope to see you there! -Gretchen taken in Senoia Farmers' Market by @blazedclaypottery
