We can’t wait to welcome this special exhibition with you! 💛

The Regional Arts Triennial is a statewide program held every three years that celebrates the artists, stories and cultural voices of regional Western Australia while building connection, visibility and opportunity for regional arts communities.

So humbled to be part of Regional Arts Triennial. Radical Futures: Rematriation.
.
The exhibition is full of such talented artists and powerful work. My piece, Collecting Boxes, is an architectural portrait and my very first dive into conceptual installation art.
It’s been amazing and humbling seeing how it connects with viewers.

Snapshots from the curatorial tour with Sarah Roots, Lead Curator of Regional Arts Triennial 3.

Over the past months, the tour has taken Sarah across multiple regions, including Carnarvon, Broome, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany, and Margaret River — visiting exhibitions, connecting with emerging curators, and spending time with artists and gallery partners across the state.

Each stop offered a different way of connecting: from early morning walks and quiet reflection in Kalgoorlie, to creative Q&As with artists in Esperance; insightful artist talks with a full and engaged audience in Albany; and a blockbuster, well-attended showcase in Margaret River. Carnarvon and Broome also formed key stops along the journey, with Broome hosting the Kimberley-wide exhibition, including works from Kununurra.

Alongside these visits, the tour included a Dabungool tour with Aunty Annie Dabb and Professor Susanna Castleden, as well as community gatherings that created space for shared conversations, reflection, and the exchange of ideas.

These journeys form an important part of the Triennial’s commitment to building relationships, listening deeply, and supporting strong, connected regional arts communities across Western Australia.

Today we were lucky to welcome Sarah Louise Roots, Lead Curator for Regional Arts Triennial, to the Complex. Hearing her broader perspective on the Triennial, spanning across 13 regions, and how our iteration, In the Quiet of the Land, sits within the statewide context, was both grounding and inspiring.
One of the most remarkable aspects about this exhibition has been the way our artists collaborated by sharing skills and knowledge so freely. With a mix of more experienced practitioners and those earlier in their professional journey, this exchange has been invaluable, shaping so much of what you see on display. Today, the artists were also able to share their concepts and creative processes with Sarah and with each other, deepening the conversation and insight around the work.
We were especially moved to hear Elaine Clocherty, Waljin – Mitchella Hutchins and Dwardinan – Vivian Brockman Webb share the personal stories behind A Spirit Held Captive is Always Free. Their site-responsive installations move through remembrance, grief, acknowledgement and renewal. It was a privilege to hear about the detail, materials and stories behind the work as well as their enduring connection to the land.
Thank you to Guest Curator Japneet Keith for shaping this iteration, and to Sharon Williams, City of Busselton Curator, for her mentorship and guidance. Selected works from the triennial will be presented at John Curtin Gallery in September. From there a touring show will be curated to travel statewide with Art on the Move.
Please make the time to come and visit In the Quiet of the Land, on now throughout the complex, until 1 March 2026. taken in Old Courthouse Complex by @blbcreative

Radical Futures

The third WA Regional Arts Triennial is underway.

Led by curator Sarah Roots, Radical Futures 3rd iteration invites artists from regional Western Australia to explore the roots of creativity and change — asking how we imagine bold new possibilities for our shared future.

Across 2026 this Triennial will unfold through regional exhibitions before culminating a showcase in February 2026 at the Old Court House Complex, Busselton
This project asks us to pause, reflect, and reimagine what lies ahead — not as a distant idea, but as something shaped by place, material, memory, and making.

I’m honoured to be one of the selected artists for WA Regional Arts Triennial 3: Radical Futures.
