POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Abit of a photo round up from afew days ago.
I made a stealth exit from Geraldton straight to @curtinuniversity Perth and spent five big days behind the camera at Radical Futures.

I had the privilege of filming and connecting with twenty selected regional artists (and more ofcourse), capturing a series of individual artist films, plus the curated walk-through with the INCREDIBLE @blbcreative

Listening to artists talk about their work, their country, their process, their stories 🥹
I left very tired but beyond full and so bloody honoured!!

For anyone wondering what Radical Futures actually is... it's the third Regional Arts Triennial a statewide arts project held every three years that celebrates artists from regional Western Australia.

Over the past two years, it’s unfolded through 13 locally curated regional exhibitions. Each one exploring how we imagine and shape the future through art. (Earlier in the year I made 7 little films with the midwest Artists, which kicked off this opportunity).

So from those exhibitions, 49 artists were selected for the final show and grand summit experience @johncurtingallery in Perth.

The Triennial is coordinated by Southern Forest Arts with support from @artonthe_move through the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost and it's project partners.

I'm so blown away by the experience really, these Artists are all so wholesome and ridiculously talented, so many change-makers in one place.
Really excited to start creating their Artist videos.

What.a.vibe

On the last day of the @waregionalartstriennial at @johncurtingallery I had to pack up to start the journey home to Karratha. I wanted to sit and take in what unfolded over the last few days and say goodbye to my little corner. What a wonderful experience to somehow find my way back to where I daydreamed of being a very long time ago. And then my piece gained a new meaning ✨

Make sure you check it out before it closes on the 6th of December.
Massive thank you @waregionalartstriennial @johncurtingallery @blbcreative @southernforestarts @kimberleyartsnetwork

Judges Reveal Why Sculpture without Wazza by Markham Boston Took Out Best Overall at the 2026 Gascoyne Art Awards.

Bringing together three respected voices from across Western Australia’s contemporary arts sector, the judging panel included Mark Tweedie, Maxxi Minaxi May and Sarah Roots. Together, they spent six hours alone in this year’s exhibition, considering creativity, technical skill, originality and artistic impact before choosing the category winners and the Best Overall work that would join the Shire of Carnarvon Community Art Collection.

For artist Markham Boston, the award represents the culmination of decades of dedication.

“God loves a trier! I’ve been entering the Gascoyne Art Awards since Wally Dale was Shire President.”

Established in 1984, the Gascoyne Art Awards have been celebrating regional creativity for more than 40 years. While Markham has previously won category awards, 2026 marks the first time he has received the exhibition’s highest honour.

The winning artwork was created on reclaimed packing board with Markham trying this new technique, and he confirmed the paint is ultramarine blue. The talented and unique technique captured the judges’ attention.

As the Best Overall Award is acquisitive, Sculpture without Wazza now becomes part of the Shire of Carnarvon Community Art Collection, ensuring the work will be preserved and exhibited as part of the region’s artistic legacy for years to come.

The judges featured in this video each bring a wealth of experience to the panel. Visual artist Mark Tweedie is known for his evocative paintings exploring memory and place. Contemporary artist Maxxi Minaxi May works across weaving, sculpture, collage and installation with a strong focus on sustainability and material experimentation. Pilbara-based curator Sarah Roots, Lead Curator of the Regional Arts Triennial WA, offers a regional perspective grounded in contemporary artistic practice and storytelling.
