Although I love spending time in the city, I still seek out ways to connect with the outdoors. That's why I teamed up with @subaru_usa for a multi-sport adventure to Acadia National Park.

The Subaru Outback was a game-changer, offering plenty of storage to carry everything from my outdoor gear to cooking essentials and campsite setup! #Sponsored

Some of my favorite tips for making the most of your trip:

🏕Make your campsite cozy and whip up delicious
meals—bonus points if you bring ingredients from
your own community garden, like I did.

🧘🏾‍♀️Set aside time to catch the sunrise and enjoy some peaceful meditation. The Blackwoods Campground even has a lovely trail that leads straight to the water!

And while you're admiring the big, sweeping views,
don't forget to appreciate the small beauties around
you, like the pines, butterflies, and snakes.

A huge thanks to @subaru_usa for making this adventure the perfect way to reconnect with nature.🏔🐍🦋

This nerdy Black Girl made it to ESSENCE Magazine!

I'm having so many moments at once—it's overwhelming! 🫨🫨 Thanks for all the love!🫂💜

A full recap is still to come for many things... but.

I am over the moon to share that I was interviewed by ESSENCE Magazine! If you know, this magazine has been a staple in the Black community for generations. It was such an honor to share my journey into the outdoors, my passion for education, and the pure joy that comes from exploring nature.

I also got to talk about the importance of @browngirlsclimb and how it truly takes a team to make a small organization thrive. I am grateful for this opportunity to highlight the work we do and the love we put into it.🧗🏾‍♀️🙌🏾💜

 Small piece from the article:

“Leavitt spoke to this experience of being a minority in the outdoor recreation space, reflecting on her childhood as a transracial adoptee in Maryland. As a Girl Scout, she found a sense of cultural community that familiarized her with the historical Black presence in the outdoor recreation space. Maryland is home to multiple national parks and after volunteering with another organization called Outdoor Afro, she immersed herself in addressing the institutional barriers that prevent many people of color from claiming a space in hiking, biking, or other activities.

“I think one of the best things I learned is that you don’t have to start young. You can take your time, and it is never too late to find that thing that resonates with you,”

Thanks to @thenorthface_climb @thenorthface forther opportunity

Thanks, @jkh_photo, for the panel photo

🍂🌧️ Fall hikes just hit differently.

Like many East Coasters, fall is my favorite time of year!

One thing I've learned is that if I want to enjoy a hike at a popular spot without the crowds, sometimes that means throwing on my rain gear and heading out in a downpour.

And honestly? Sometimes the rain makes a short hike even more beautiful. The mist, the changing leaves, the sound of the water, and the quietness of the trail. There's something special about it.

Another one of my favorite things to do is revisit the same trail in different seasons. I actually snowshoed this hike earlier in the winter, and coming back in the fall felt like experiencing a completely different place.

🌿 Quick facts:

⛰️Awosting Falls is a 65-foot waterfall in the Shawangunk Mountains (the Gunks!).

⛰️The waterfall is fed by the Peter's Kill stream.

Beyond all of this, I'm incredibly grateful that this is what I get to do. ✌🏾

Knowing that I get to spend another weekend back up in the Gunks, climbing, guiding, sharing my love for the outdoors, and continuing to learn from the land is truly a dream. 🫶🏾

Sometimes I have to remind myself how special it is to be able to call this part of my life and work.🍁

📍 Awosting Falls | Minnewaska State Park Preserve, NY

Located on the ancestral homelands of the Munsee Lenape people, who have longstanding connections to the Shawangunk Mountains.

Part 3: The Land. 🏜️🌿

The final chapter of my less than 48 hours in Moab, Utah, with @ACG!

One thing I love about the desert is how quickly the landscape changes. From towering sandstone formations and slickrock to colorful canyons, sunsets, and bats emerging into the evening sky. The desert is full of life, history, and beauty.

But what makes this land special goes far beyond the views.

Moab sits on the ancestral lands of Indigenous peoples, including the Ute, Diné (Navajo), Paiute, and Pueblo peoples, whose connections to this landscape continue today. Learning about the land and its history is just as important as exploring it.

And of course, DON'T BUST THE CRUST! Biological soil crusts help protect desert ecosystems, and a single footprint can damage decades of growth.

About three hours from where we stayed is Bears Ears National Monument, a sacred cultural landscape connected to the Hopi Tribe, Navajo Nation, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, Zuni Tribe, and Ute Indian Tribe.

With ongoing threats to public lands, including efforts to weaken the Roadless Rule, expand resource extraction, and reduce protections for Indigenous cultural landscapes and communities, there's so much at stake.

Two ways to show up:
✌🏾Support the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and Indigenous-led stewardship. @bearsearscoalition

✊🏾 Stay informed and contact your representatives to advocate for public land protections.

Loving the outdoors also means protecting the land and respecting the communities connected to it.

Huge thanks to @ACG for the invitation and @navtec_expeditions_moab for the guidance, knowledge, and care throughout this experience.

Until the next adventure! 🫶🏾🏜️

Part 2: The People 🏜️🫶🏾

Beyond being gear researchers for @ACG, another big part of this experience was connecting with people!

It was amazing to see so many familiar faces, catch up with homies, and meet some truly wonderful new folks.

One of the beautiful things about nature is how it brings people together. Not every moment has to be about networking or doing something big. Sometimes it's simply sitting together watching the sunset, sharing dinner around the fire, teaching someone how to set up a tent, taking photos, or sneaking in a lil run.

There was so much joy in being surrounded by folks who get just as stoked about exploring new places and being outside as I do. Having no service is needed more often.

Major shoutout to our MC @bigbux.ian from @navtec_expeditions_moab and the entire @ACG crew for keeping us on track when needed! 😂 I also really appreciated that we had downtime to just slow down, vibe with nature, and enjoy each other's company.

Because sometimes the best part of an adventure isn't just where you go, but the people you get to share it with. 🫶🏾

Stay tuned for the final installment…

I spent less than 48 hours testing gear with @acg in one of my favorite spots, Moab, Utah! 🏜️🌞

A place that knows how to go from HOT to COLD within hours!

Our mission? Find Moab’s hottest and coldest spots while putting the new ACG Lava Flow Ultralight jacket to the test.

From my readings: From 107°F slickrock to 50°F desert nights, experienced just how quickly the desert changes.

And as someone who runs cold, this was the perfect jacket to cozy up in while observing & sleeping underneath the milky way 🌌

I love getting to test gear in real outdoor environments while also learning more about the land we're connecting with.

Big shoutout to @margomillie for sharing more about the design process and the thoughtful choices behind the jacket. It's always cool to learn why gear is made the way it is and how those decisions translate to real experiences outdoors.

Stay tuned for Part 2: The Land.
