Children learn so much by exploring the world around them. Real-life experiences help them build curiosity, confidence, empathy, and lasting memories—and our amazing field trip to Real Life Farm in Canton, Michigan, brought learning to life!

The children had the opportunity to touch and feed the animals and experience a real barn. They enjoyed getting up close with the farm animals, discovering new things, and connecting what they’ve learned to the world around them. It was a wonderful day full of hands-on learning, excitement, and unforgettable memories!

Do You Know?

When children are given choices—and expected to help clean up afterward—they practice making decisions and taking responsibility.

Simple choices like “Would you like the blocks or the puzzles?” help children build confidence and independence. Inviting them to put materials away teaches care for their classroom and shows that everyone can help.

Do You Know? The best learning experiences often happen when children are moving, creating, experimenting, and having fun together.

This activity supports development in several areas:

Gross-motor development: Children practice balance, body control, coordination, and awareness as they move across the paper.
Fine-motor development: Holding and controlling the markers strengthens the hands and fingers used for later writing tasks.
Visual tracking: Children watch the marks appear and connect their movements with the lines they create.
Cause-and-effect learning: They discover that their movements create changes on the paper.
Early writing skills: Children explore lines, curves, direction, pressure, and mark-making.
Spatial awareness: They learn about distance, position, direction, and how their bodies move through space.

Turn an ordinary circle time into an exciting **Flashlight Party!** Shine a light on learning with music, movement, laughter, and discovery.

## Do You Know?

A flashlight party can make circle time more engaging while supporting children’s:

- Attention and listening skills
- Language development
- Following directions
- Turn-taking and cooperation
- Visual tracking
- Early problem-solving
- Confidence and participation

Dim the lights, play some upbeat music, and invite children to follow the flashlight as it moves around the room. Shine the light on colors, shapes, letters, numbers, or classroom objects and let children identify what they see.

Add fun prompts such as:

- “Can you find something blue?”
- “Show me a shape!”
- “Freeze when the flashlight stops!”
- “Can you move like the light?”
- “What does the flashlight discover next?”
