On Detroit’s east side, Blessed Beginnings Learning Center stands as a reminder of what it looks like to invest in families first. Founder LaShawn Bridges started in her home in 1999, and two decades later, her vision grew into a five-star rated center serving up to 60 kids with a long waiting list.

Blessed Beginnings offers more than childcare. Families have access to Early Head Start, STEAM curriculum, free field trips, and even health screenings. From diapers to dental checks, the center makes sure parents know their children are safe, cared for, and loved.

With a $75,000 grant from Motor City Match, LaShawn turned what was once a shuttered storefront into a space full of life and opportunity. The investment not only expanded services but created jobs for local residents.

This spotlight is part of the @MotorCityMatch 10-year celebration series, honoring the entrepreneurs shaping Detroit’s future, one neighborhood at a time.

I publicly want to thank my tribe of phenomenal women who encourage, support and uplift me DAILY through the selfless work they contribute to the world in shaping young minds and lives for the better! Their strength, grit, determination and resilience make me go harder in the work I do. This evening they took time out of their lives to give me my flowers and I'm truly grateful and thankful to them ALL! I sit here in tears because I assumed no one saw my heart and dedication but unbeknownst to me eyes were always watching and ears listening to what I had to say as I attempted to add value to their empires. I'm humbled by the grace shown to me because I don't share my woes or worries with everyone. I move to make room for others to have a seat and voice at the table because I believe there is a enough for everyone. Ladies THANK YOU so much for showing up and loving on this tired sometimes broken soul. You rejuvenated me this evening and I appreciate each and everyone of you.

I have the pleasure in making the lower area of @blessed_babies POP.
It’s a process but I can guarantee this area gonna POP when it’s all done.
I’ve been trusted to design the whole layout. Furniture and so much more. Stay Tuned.

Congrats to Motor City Match Awardee Lashawn Bridges, owner of the Blessed Beginnings Learning Center on her grand opening this morning in District 3 at 14050 East 8 Mile. In purchasing the newly refurbished brick-and-mortar facility, Bridges relocates her in-home childcare business of 20 years and expands her capacity from 12 to 60 children. She used the MCM cash award to furnish each classroom with developmentally appropriate furniture, learning materials and equipment.
