Beaut little trip over to Mid-Wales today for a wander in Hafren Forest with Eliot. It’s somewhere I’ve never been and with rain forecast figured it was a good day to go. Who doesn’t love an atmospheric wander through the trees. Well worth the 6hrs driving! At some point I’ll plan a bike route through there. It’s be great fun flying through there on the gravel bike! by @blistered
Snapshots of Spain from a few weeks ago. Zero biking with a sprained ankle but it was nice to spend time sith Eliot and just bod about and find things we hadn’t seen before. Highlights included: - Sunrise beach trip and swim - Seeing the eclipse over Malaga - Walking up to the castle in 35 degrees - Seeing Parakeets everywhere and having them drop stuff on our heads - Epic sky views - The Automotive and Fashion museum - All the mediteranean architecture by @blistered
Two years ago we set out on our Ride for Forest. Raising money for @tommys we cycled from Nottingham to Amsterdam in memory of our son Forest. It turned out to be an epic ride with scary crashes, massive rainstorms, exploding rear derailleurs, overnight ferries, ant attacks, noodles, vending machine coffee, stolen spoons, newspapers in shoes and giant Miffy statues. Some amazing memories made during what was a dark time for us both. We raised a chunk of money for an amazing charity which was made possible by those who rode with us and a stellar team back at home helping us. #rideforforest #bikepacking #babylossawareness by @blistered
It’s been a weird January and is one I want to forget and remember in fairly equal measures. The Bad 1. My dad passed away over New Year and I had to spend 10 days starting sorting his things out in Spain and having his funeral. This was obviously a really sad time, made more difficult needing to deal with the feelings of others when I needed to be able to focus on my own more than anything, I guess I’ll get to do that at some point. 2. When I got back my health stats were in the toilet, REALLY bad! It felt like the training I’s been doing over the last 2 years was pointless and was pretty demotivating to see. That’s what 10 days of no activity, not eating your usual diet and stress sleeping does for you. 3. Work was also tough to get back into. Post Christmas is always an odd time anyway but missing the first week back made it worse. The Good 1. My girls have been supportive when I’ve needed them (thanks @kittycakekid) which has been super helpful 2. Eliot and I got our first ride of the year in last weekend to go buy a birthday present for Emrys (@brynmorjournal and @samanthaeynon awesome little ‘un) and we got to go to the cutest birthday party to celebrate with them 3. Eliot turned 13. She’s always been a spark of awesome in my life since she showed up. I can see all the good parts of myself and Jess in her and its settling to know that she’s growing the most amazing young woman. I couldn’t be more proud to be her dad. 4. @endurance_goals has been amazingly supportive with the training plan. Allowing me time to pick back up again but still pushing towards the goals we’re aiming towards. Onwards to February, lighter evenings, (maybe) slightly warmer weather and a sense that spring is on its way very soon and hiking and biking will be solidly back on the menu. Thanks for listening now go ride your bike 🫶🏻 #cycling #gravelcycling #life #lifevents #friendsandfamily by @blistered
Took a nice walk in the Peaks on Monday with @brynmorjournal and @samanthaeynon. Wandering along peaty paths among the heather and on to the stone circle. It was the perfect chilly winter day with good company. #peakdistrictnationalpark #hiking #hills #trigpoint #friends by @blistered
It’s been quite a while since we went for a walk in the rain so today felt really good. Celebrating @samanthaeynon’s birthday with a wander out from @thornbridge up to the Monsal Trail and back through Bakewell for some well deserved pizza at the taproom. Thanks @brynmorjournal for organising. More autumn/winter hikes needed! #friends #birthday #brewery #taproom #derbyshire #derbyshiredales #bakewell #thornbridgebrewery by @blistered

Randoms from the last few weeks… Fledgling birds that don’t know what to be scared of deciding to just sit in the grass while the dog is bodding about, Wisteria doing Wisteria things and all the fruit trees growing stuff for us to eat all at once (this never happens, there’s usually one that doesn’t fruit). #ukgarden #ukgardens #garden #bird #blackbird #apple #pear #fruit #fruittree #fruitrees #wisteria by @blistered
Life lately has been a juggling act of work (with a particularly busy patch), training, riding, walking and seeing friends while waiting very impatiently for @kittycakekid to come home from this stint in Africa. It’s been tough at times, I’m not going to lie. But we’re mega excited to have her home very soon! #training #cycletraining #paincave #ridetraining #endurancetraining #endurancecycling #bikepacking #ukcyclist #turbotrainer #canyon #canyongrizl #gravel #gravelrider #gravelbike #canyonbikes #canyongravel #gravelridinguk #ukgravel #fizik #vittoria #vittoriatyres #friends #family #warwickshire #gsp #dogs #bikes by @blistered

Fun day out with Eliot Mae today at @animeconuk with her cosplaying as Misty from #pokemon. The lightsaber training lesson was good fun. #anime #animecon #nec #cartoon #japanese #jpop #pokemon #pokémon #japan #daughter by @blistered
#RideForForest Day 3 round up. Starting off from Rotterdam extremely tired after two nights of little sleep we joined the cycle route straight out of passport control. This sent us winding along the waters edge to a small river crossing ferry which cut out around 20k of riding. From here we continued along tiny cobbled streets and cycleways, winding through fields and houseboat lined canals until we stopped for lunch at a water park, roughly half way on our route. More cycleways along lakes saw us using another tiny ferry to cross. At this point disaster struck. I’d been nursing a shifting issue for about 10k until my chain dropped off the front chain ring. I put it back in place but decided to put it on the large ring, only for my derraileur to self destruct and fire itself through the wheel and round the seat stay. With no way of fixing it we tried converting it to single speed but that didn’t really work. Luckily we found a local bike shop that was still open who were happy to help and fitted a new chain in a workable gear. It’s far from perfect but got the job done and the final 25k in the bag to get to the campsite in drizzly weather. Amsterdam riding is NOT for the faint hearted and your senses go wild just avoiding people! But, we made it, 102km. Super proud of the whole team! @brynmorjournal, @twistyourankle85, Sam and Dave. #canyon #canyongrizl #gravel #gravelrider #gravelbike #canyonbikes #canyongravel #gravelridinguk #ukgravel #fizik #amsterdam #rotterdam #cycling #ridingbikes #holland by @blistered
