“If you can see it, you can be it.”

Growing up, we didn’t always see leaders who looked like us. Josh Hunter is changing that by showing young people what’s possible through culture, storytelling, and representation.

The holidays in Lancaster City have a way of reminding us what matters most. Not the rush, not the pressure, but the moments that bring people closer. The kind of moments where neighbors gather, families slow down, and the glow of the season feels a little brighter because it is shared.

That spirit came to life once again at Light Up Southeast, hosted by the Crispus Attucks Community Center, a program of the @cap_lanc, in partnership with the @cityoflancpa. Each December, this gathering becomes a reflection of what community truly looks like in Southeast Lancaster, one of the most culturally rich and historically rooted neighborhoods in our city.

This year’s celebration brought back the simple joys that make the season feel familiar.

Santa arrived not only as a holiday tradition, but as a reminder that representation matters. The return of our Black “Just Like Me” Santa meant young children could see the magic of the holidays reflected in someone who looks like them. For many families, that moment carried a meaning that will stay with them long after the night ends.

Then came the tree lighting, the moment everyone leaned into together. As the lights flickered to life, the crowd lifted their voices and applause filled the space. It was simple, beautiful, and shared. A reminder that the holidays do not need to be extravagant to be meaningful. Sometimes one tree, one countdown, and one neighborhood gathered in the cold can create a feeling that stays in the heart.

Events like Light Up Southeast remind us that the soul of Lancaster lives in places like Crispus Attucks, where neighbors gather, traditions thrive, and every person is welcomed into the celebration. Lancaster City holds many holiday traditions, but this one continues to shine because it centers joy and belonging.

Light Up Southeast once again showed what Lancaster does best. We create space where every family, every culture, and every story can be honored with care.

And that is the kind of holiday spirit that will always matter.

Turning tragedy into care, our friend is honoring the memory of her beloved daughter, Brynley, by blessing others. In her spirit, you can keep this kindness alive. If you have some time, consider picking up a toy or a few and donating them in Brynley’s memory.

A big thank you to @yorgoslancaster for helping me contribute to this meaningful cause. @brookemadisyn, your strength and generosity are truly inspiring!

The rumors are true: the hoagies are 🔥! The customer service is top-notch, and walking through the doors feels like family. I even spotted a familiar face—an old student working hard! I’m grateful for businesses in our community that provide opportunities for our youth. Go check them out; you won't be disappointed! #NoFilter @pinestexpressdeli by @blkking91
