An evening of drinks and conversation at @decadeslancaster also helped support an organization that has spent 50 years assisting survivors of domestic violence. Purpose & Pours brought community members together during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with a portion of proceeds from a featured cocktail benefiting Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County.

@decadeslancaster partnered with Domestic Violence Services for the event, contributing a donation with every purchase of its signature cocktail, The Golden Guava. A nonalcoholic mocktail option was also available. The fundraiser gave guests an opportunity to enjoy an evening out while supporting an organization whose work reaches individuals and families throughout Lancaster County.

The gathering came as @dvs_lanc marks its 50th anniversary, recognizing five decades of helping people affected by domestic violence. For survivors, seeking assistance can involve difficult decisions, particularly when concerns about personal safety, financial stability or family circumstances make leaving an abusive situation more complicated. Having access to local services can make a meaningful difference for those navigating these challenges.

Domestic violence often happens outside public view, and many survivors face circumstances that others may never fully understand. Bringing the conversation into public spaces can help more people recognize the challenges survivors experience and become familiar with the organizations available to support them.

Through its partnership with @dvs_lanc, @decadeslancaster provided another way for Lancaster residents to contribute to that work.

Purpose & Pours connected a familiar social gathering with an issue that deserves attention throughout the year, while helping introduce the organization’s mission to a broader community. @cap_lanc

For many men, conversations about health begin only after something goes wrong. @patientsrwaiting set out to change that. Community members, healthcare professionals and local leaders gathered for “Barbershop to Boardroom: A Conversation on Men’s Health”, an evening focused on honest dialogue about physical health, mental well-being and the role men play within their families @southernmarketlancaster.

Rather than centering statistics alone, the discussion focused on the realities many men experience every day. For generations, many men have been taught to be strong, provide for others and push through difficult moments without asking for help. Those expectations can make it difficult to talk about anxiety, depression or grief until someone reaches a breaking point.

The roundtable challenged that mindset by reminding attendees that vulnerability is not weakness and that seeking support is an act of strength long before a crisis develops.

Preventive care, including routine checkups and early treatment of chronic conditions, was framed as an investment in personal health and the relationships that matter most.

The conversation never felt like a lecture as community members shared personal experiences alongside healthcare professionals, making the discussion feel real. Men weren’t expected to have all the answers. They were encouraged to ask questions and support one another.

Participants spoke openly about the pressure to always be strong. They talked about work, family responsibilities and how easy it is to put their own health last.

Better health doesn’t begin only when someone walks into a doctor’s office. It begins when people feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help before a crisis develops. @patientsrwaiting continues working to remove barriers to healthcare by creating opportunities for education and conversations like the one shared that evening.

Sometimes the most important step toward better health isn’t finding all the answers, it’s simply starting the conversation.

Our Summer of Health Equity continued with Barbershop to Boardroom💈, which brought together men for connection, community, and honest dialogue about health and the power of showing up for one another.

Health equity doesn’t just happen from behind a desk. It happens by meeting people where they are, listening to their stories, building trust, and creating opportunities for meaningful change. We’re building more than programs! We’re building relationships where every conversation matters!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their time, voice, and expertise🖤 We look forward to welcoming you back to the Black Doctor Factory for the DADvocates kickoff in October!

Freedom has never been simple in America. It has been delayed, fought for, prayed over, protected and passed forward by people who understood that liberty is not only something to celebrate. It is something we are responsible for.

That truth was at the heart of Lancaster’s annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony, held Friday morning at Lancaster City Hall and sponsored by the @lancaster_naacp

Juneteenth is rooted in history, but it is not trapped in the past. It marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

We were reminded that Lancaster’s own history is part of that larger American story. For enslaved people who crossed into this county, Lancaster represented the possibility of becoming freer than they had been before arriving here. That legacy lives in the stories of people like Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton Smith, whose lives and work remain deeply tied to Lancaster’s role in the long struggle for freedom and justice.

That is a powerful legacy, but also a challenge. To raise the Juneteenth flag in Lancaster is to say freedom should live here. Not as a slogan, not as a once-a-year ceremony, but as something people can feel in the daily life of this city.

Lancaster’s Juneteenth flag raising has become a meaningful community tradition because it gives residents a place to pause and remember all those whose courage helped move this country closer to the promises it too often delayed.

But Juneteenth is not only a day to look back. It is also a call to look honestly at where we are. The work continues wherever people are still fighting to be safe, heard, educated, housed, valued and given a fair chance to thrive.

Democracy is not a destination. It is a responsibility, and that responsibility belongs to all of us.

As the flag was raised above Lancaster City Hall, the ceremony became a reminder of what this city has been, what it has promised and what it must continue working to become.

And in Lancaster, the raising of the Juneteenth flag reminds us that the work of freedom still belongs to us.

Spend enough time in Lancaster County and you start to notice a pattern. The people making the biggest impact are rarely doing it by themselves.

Behind every thriving business, revitalized neighborhood, successful organization, or community initiative is a network of people showing up for one another.

That idea showed up again and again during the @lancchamber 154th Annual Dinner.

This year’s theme, Ordinary People. Extraordinary Impact., felt fitting. Lancaster’s strength has always come from people willing to invest in their communities, support local businesses, mentor future leaders, and work toward something bigger than themselves.

The evening’s honorees reflected that spirit in different ways.

Marshall Snively + @lanccityalliance were recognized for helping advance economic development and strengthen Lancaster City. Dan Sahd was honored for leadership in sustainability, and workforce development. Dr. Sharee Livingston + @patientrwaiting were recognized for expanding access to healthcare, advancing health equity, and creating pathways for future medical professionals. Joanne Ladley was celebrated for a lifetime of leadership and building a culture centered on people and community.

That spirit carried into keynote speaker Malcolm Gladwell’s remarks. In a conversation centered on trust, Gladwell challenged the idea that trust is earned through performance alone.

Expertise, credentials, and results matter, but they are only part of the equation. Trust grows when people understand who we are, what we value, and why we do the work we do. It grows through relationships, shared experiences, and a willingness to connect beyond titles and accomplishments.

In many ways, that message reflected what has helped Lancaster County thrive for generations. The businesses, organizations, and leaders that leave the greatest mark here are often the ones that understand community is the decision to keep showing up, investing in people, and creating spaces where others can succeed.

That is how communities grow. That is how trust is built. And that is how ordinary people create extraordinary impact.

And just like that, @mccaskeyhighschool Class of 2026 is off to their next adventure.

Graduation has become one of those milestones I use to measure time. Not just the end of a school year, but the closing of a chapter. A moment to look back at everything it took to get here.

This was my third graduation with @sdolancaster, and somehow, it still feels just as emotional as the first.

By the time graduates cross that stage, they are carrying everyone who helped them believe they could make it there.
Moments like this always remind me of my why.

In my role, so much of the work happens behind the scenes. We are running from place to place, trying to catch the moment before it disappears. Looking for the right angle. Watching reactions unfold in real time. Thinking about whether we captured enough for the families who could not be there or for the students who will look back at these photos years from now.

Most people never really see that part of the work, the responsibility of documenting moments that carry so much meaning for so many people. But honestly, that is part of what makes it so meaningful to me.

Because this work has never just been about taking photos, it’s about preserving memories for our community. It’s about making sure people feel seen. It’s about honoring the story of a district where students arrive carrying dreams and entire lives behind them, then leave ready to step into whatever comes next.

To the McCaskey Class of 2026, congratulations. You did it.

You leave as graduates, but you also leave as part of something that will always stay with you. You are part of McCaskey. You are part of the School District of Lancaster. You are part of a community that has watched you grow, cheered you on, and will continue believing in where you go next.

And for me, three graduations in, I am reminded again how lucky I am to do this work with an amazing team. To witness these moments up close. To capture the hugs, the cheers, the tears, the smiles, and the quiet moments between the big ones.

The story does not end when students walk across the stage. In so many ways, it’s only beginning.

A room full of people doesn’t guarantee connection. But every once in a while, something shifts, and connection feels inevitable.

At @yorgoslancaster, @a.calhouneventsllc networking mixer unfolded into something far more layered than a typical after-work gathering. It didn’t revolve around titles or polished introductions. It allowed people to arrive without pretense and let interaction happen in a way that felt natural, not rehearsed.

It’s easy to build an event around aesthetics or attendance. It’s harder to create an environment where people feel comfortable enough to be present. Alissa understands that difference. This wasn’t about filling a room. It was about making room for community to take shape in real time.

Set on the third floor, the energy carried a steady flow of people from across Lancaster, each arriving with their own reasons, but leaving with something in common.

@titosvodka added another layer, not just through branded touches and giveaways, but through its partnership with Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County. @cap_lanc

For every Tito’s cocktail purchased, a dollar goes back to support local initiatives through the end of June. Guests were also encouraged to bring non-perishable donations for the Crispus Attucks Community Center, grounding the evening in something larger than the moment itself.

By the end of the night, the giveaways, the photo opportunities, even the happy hour specials felt secondary. What stayed were the conversations people didn’t expect to have and the connections that didn’t feel forced.

Lancaster has a strong sense of community, but that doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built in rooms like this, where the focus shifts from networking as a task to connection as an experience. For a few hours on the third floor at Yorgos, that shift felt real.

If you were there, you felt it.
