POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“Free Us All” • “Just because were incarcerated doesn’t mean we don’t have a future” • “everything I do is good” are just some of the themes the students behind these works have beautifully addressed in their work showing Thursday April 30th at MOCA Geffen

Thursday April 30th 11:00am-12:30pm two of the classes I’ve been lucky to teach through @artworxla will be presenting their work at MOCA Geffen. Work that responds to the Monuments show currently up but also their experiences as incarcerated youth 🫶🏽 by @blksalome__

We’re so happy to introduce Avery and Nour today ✷⊹⟣

💫Avery Collins Byrd (@blksalome__ ) examinate alternative geographies and how new cartographies are created through the apparatus of marginal survival; such as fleeing, joy and placemaking.
🌸Nour Almazidi’s (@nuralmazidi ) work explores the entanglements of death, memory, grief, and archival practice. Moving across oral history, storytelling, photography, and occultic archival methods, her project forges alternative ways of staying tethered to the dead.

Thank you for being part of this community! ♡✦◌ by @blksalome__

Graduated college now I’m free from ucla #gobruins

Couldn’t have made it through without my community and ancestors. If anything being in an institution taught me further that resistance is not optional and can’t be possible without those surrounding you!!!

Guest book (2024)

Still images of performance for guest
Book bonded and printed by me😉

Images and script blend through paper, mixing my body in moments of freedom, breath, with the words of those outside of it. Or the words cover each other fighting for space where the body is not to be seen by @blksalome__
