I’ve spent almost 12 years in the NHS, in roles that ask a lot of me and my mental health. I pick my son up from school, we come, I sort his school uniform, his PE kit, tea and bath time. I read the bedtime stories and I stay with him until he’s asleep. I try SO hard but I lie there feeling like it’s not enough. Like I’m failing, even though I’m trying with everything I’ve got.

For a long time I thought the answer was just to try harder. Cut back a bit more. Budget tighter.

It didn’t work. Trying harder at the same thing just left me exhausted, still doing the same maths and getting the same result.

I realised “trying harder” wasn’t the missing piece. I needed something different alongside my job, not instead of it. Something that could grow over time, rather than just squeezing a bit more out of the hours I already had.

That’s when I looked into building something online, in the evenings, around my son, around work, starting from absolute zero. No experience. No idea what I was doing. Just done feeling like trying harder was the only option I had.

SMGB Academy has been my starting point. It’s build got exactly that: someone who doesn’t know where to begin but knows they want to move and make a difference to their lives by building something online.

I started and whilst I’ve moved slowly, for the first time in a while trying doesn’t feel like it’s disappearing into nothing. It feels like it’s actually going somewhere, even if that somewhere is small and slow right now.

If you’re exhausted from trying your hardest and still feeling like it’s not enough, maybe it’s not about trying harder. Maybe it’s about starting something different.

Comment MINI and I’ll send you what I’ve been using to build something online that feels like it’s actually going somewhere and becoming something for my future 🩷

Same seat at the kitchen table. Same phone in my hand. Same numbers not quite adding up, no matter how many times I move them around.

Last September I sat here doing exactly this. New school shoes bought, new school year started, and that same tight feeling in my chest as I worked out what was left until payday.

A whole year of shifts. A whole year of trying to be present for my little boy while my head was somewhere else entirely, doing sums it never seemed to finish. And here I am again, same table, same maths, twelve months later.

For a long time I thought that meant I was doing something wrong. That if I just worked a bit harder, budgeted a bit tighter, something would eventually give. It never really did. Not because I wasn’t trying. Because trying harder at the same thing was never going to change the thing itself.

I’m not telling you this from the other side of it, all sorted and smiling. I’m telling you from right here, still at the kitchen table, still early in figuring this out.

What is different this year is that I’ve actually started something, instead of just hoping. Slowly, honestly, learning the basics of building something for myself through SMGB Academy, a proper starting point for someone who’s never done anything like digital and affiliate marketing or an online business before.

This is the first September in a long time where the maths feels like it might actually change, not just repeat and that gives me so much hope.

If you’re sat at your own kitchen table doing the same sums as last year, comment START and I’ll send you where I started. 🤍

I remember saying it last September, stood in the school shoe aisle, doing the same maths I’m doing right now. “This year will be different. This is our year.”

It wasn’t.

Here I am, twelve months later, same worry, same stress, same tightness in my chest every time I open my banking app.

I used to think if I just held on a bit longer, worked a bit harder, something would eventually shift on its own.
But nothing shifted. Not because I didn’t want it enough. Because wanting something and actually changing something are two completely different things, and for years I only ever did the first one.

This year I’m actually doing something different, not just hoping harder. I started learning the basics of building something for myself, properly, through something called the SMGB Academy.

I don’t have big results yet. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. I’m still learning and building, making mistakes and figuring things out, same as a lot of you probably are.

But it’s the first September in years where I’ve actually changed something instead of just hoping. If you’re ready to try that too, comment CHANGE and I’ll send you where I started. 🤍

What finally shifted things for me had nothing at all to do with luck or timing. It was choosing to actually learn something instead of waiting for circumstances to change on their own.

I found my way to digital and affiliate marketing after watching another mum on Instagram who shared a very similar story to me who had turned her own life around and stopped living paycheck-to-paycheck after finding a way to build something of her own, on her own terms and timeframe. I wanted to do the same.

She recommended the SMGB Academy to me and for once, I decided to invest in myself and build towards that better future I’d been waiting for.

If you’re still stuck, waiting and hoping that things might change for you as you quietly drown, this is your sign to stop waiting and choose to actually learn something that has potential to change your circumstances with real foundations and a roadmap you can follow on your terms and your own timeframe.

Comment READY if you’re done waiting on luck or right timing for your circumstances to change and I’ll send you the details on how you can make the shift for yourself 🩷

I spent such a long time make the same mistakes, year after year. It kept me exactly where I was instead of helping me to move forward, waiting and hoping that something would come along and change my financial situation for me and my little family.

Nothing ever came. I never got that lucky. People rarely do.

I kept going through the same cycle, stressed and overwhelmed and doing mental financial gymnastics each and every day. Constantly checking my bank account and always feeling that lead weight sink when the app opened.

Nothing was changing. Or it wasn’t until I realised that waiting to be rescued is not the same as actually building a way out and finding a way to try and turn my situation and my fears around myself.

This year I stopped waiting and actually started learning the basics of building something of my own, something I could do around my chaotic family life and demanding NHS job. Something I could do without sacrificing any more time with my little boy and missing out on school runs and bedtimes.

I found digital and affiliate marketing through another mum who’d been in a very similar situation to me and she recommended the SMGB Academy to me. It didn’t matter that I was a complete beginner with no tech skills, no qualifications and no idea how to make it all work, because the SMGB helped me learn it all properly with real foundations right from scratch.

Now I have a plan instead of just hoping something will change and I’m working towards building a brighter future for me and my family on my terms and my schedule, one small step at a time.

If you’re tired of waiting to be saved and want to learn how to build your own online business as a complete beginner, comment MINI and I’ll send you the exact framework that’s been helping me grow and develop 🩷

I’m embarrassed to admit that for years I thought that hoping for a miracle was a plan. I spent so long hoping something would come along and rescue us. A bonus. A decent rise in wages. Some unexpected bit of luck.

None of it came. It never really does, does it.

I think somewhere along the way I confused hoping with doing something. They feel similar, especially when you’re exhausted. But they’re not the same thing at all.

Hoping kept me exactly where I was, year after year. Doing something, even something small and imperfect, is the only thing that’s ever actually moved me forward.

So this year, instead of waiting for someone to rescue me, I started learning how to build something myself. Slowly, from scratch, with support and guidance of the SMGB Academy which was designed for someone like me: no experience, no clue where to begin, no qualifications, just done waiting. A complete beginner.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t made any sales. I don’t have a big story to tell you. I’m just a 35 year old NHS mum. But I have honest, early progress and that already feels different to years of just hoping.

If you’re done waiting to be rescued too, comment READY and I’ll send you what I used to start 🤍

The mums who feel calm about Christmas in December usually aren’t lucky. They just didn’t wait until November to think about it.

I’ve been the other kind of mum, more than once. The one who tells herself that there’s still time until suddenly there isn’t, and December turns into stress and guilt and money moved around that shouldn’t have been.

I nearly did it again this year. Told myself September was too early to think about Christmas.

But then I actually sat down and started something instead. Small, honest steps, learning properly through the SMGB Academy, the complete beginner starting point for understanding how to build something online.

I don’t have huge results to show you yet. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. What I do have is a September head start that I didn’t have last year and hope that what I’m doing will benefit my family in the long run. That already has made a world of difference and whilst I’m not financially there yet, it’s a start.

If last Christmas’ finances and worrying about how you were going to make ends meet from September to January left you stressed and you don’t want a repeat, comment MINI now, while there’s still time for it to actually make a difference 🩷

When I realised I didn’t need another job but rather a new skill, it changed everything for me. I’d spent ages asking: “what other job could I do?” because I didn’t want to sacrifice time with my little boy and take on even more stress around my already mentally demanding NHS job.

Instead, I started researching what I could learn around the existing chaos of my life and what wouldn’t impact on my day-to-day job and little boy.

That’s what led me to digital marketing and honestly, I had zero idea how much there really was to it. At first I felt so overwhelmed by it all, thinking that I needed to know it all and already have some kind of background in it and a qualification or tech skills. But then I realised I just needed to learn it.

That’s why having structured framing and an actual roadmap has been so useful for me since starting because it gives me somewhere to go next without having to feel lost or like I don’t know what to post.

I’m still learning and building towards my goal but I started and I’m making a positive change in my life that hopefully will help make things feel a little easier in the long run.

If you’re contemplating another job but nothing fits alongside your current job and family life, maybe learning a new skill and building your own side hustle online is the next step you really need.

I had to give myself this exact reminder more than once, usually after a long work day, sat in the car outside the house for a minute before going in, too tired to even keep the act up properly.

Eleven years in and out of NHS roles will teach you how to hold a professional face together no matter what’s going on underneath. I’m good at it. Almost too good.

But pretending got exhausting faster than the actual problem did. Smiling through teams meetings, smiling through the school run, smiling at “how are you,” when honestly some days I wasn’t fine, I was just tired and quietly worried and putting one foot in front of the other.

I’m still learning. Still building, slowly, around a mentally demanding job and a 5 year old who needs me present, not performing.

But at least I’ve stopped pretending about where I’m actually at, at least here, with you.

If you needed this sign too, comment MINI and I’ll send you what ive been using to start and keep building. 🤍

I used to feel guilty for even feeling stressed, given how much I have to be thankful for: a good job, healthy little boy, a roof over our heads.

Gratitude and exhaustion can live in the same body at the same time though. I had to learn that the hard way, usually around 11pm after a long day.

I’m slowly building a plan alongside all of that, one small step at a time. I’m not here to tell you I’ve got it all figured out, because I haven’t. I’m not an expert, just a mum sharing her progress as it happens and showing you the systems I’ve been working through and using to learn and build.

If you’ve felt that same guilt, comment MINI and I’ll share what’s helping me to feel less guilty and start building towards a better future. 🤍

I told myself I’d start once things calmed down or when payday hit or once I felt less tired and stressed. But things never really calmed down and I only felt MORE stressed and exhausted.

That’s the part nobody warns you about so you keep waiting, holding off, stuck in this vicious little cycle of despair.

So, I made a choice and just started anyway. Tired, unsure, and honestly a bit sceptical of the whole thing… and more so of myself and whether I could actually do something like this. Like me, the introvert who hates putting herself out there 😬

But I did. I am.

Yeah I’m still tired. I’m still unsure a lot of days. But I’m further along than I was, and that’s enough for right now. Honestly, im so proud of myself too.

I’m not here to tell you I’ve got it all figured out, because I haven’t. I’m not an expert, just a mum sharing her progress as it happens and showing you the systems I’ve been working through and using to learn and build.

If “feeling ready” has been the thing holding you back too and stopping you from starting your own online journey, maybe this is your sign that you don’t need to wait for it. 🩷

Comment MINI and I’ll send you the details of what I’m working on and what has helped me go from not being ready to consistently learning and building.
