We were so happy to have Felix Wing Solis, a previous Fellow, now part of the Blue Planet Alliance Blue Team, join the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum 2026!

It was so great to have previous Fellows from our Fellowship Program attending, speaking, and promoting change!
CREF is about more than panels and presentations. It’s where lasting connections are made. Over the course of the Forum, we were able to meet with policymakers, utility leaders, investors, and fellow advocates, and shared ideas on how to speed up the Caribbean’s transition to 100% renewable energy.

These relationships are what turn ambition into action. A conversation over coffee becomes a partnership, and a shared challenge becomes a joint project. Watching our Fellows step into these spaces as leaders, building networks that reach across islands and sectors, reminds us why this program matters.

Thank you to all of our friends and partners who joined Peace Boat US, Blue Planet Alliance, Rise UP and Welch International at the New York Innovation Forum on September 21 and 22 and other events throughout Climate Week New York! The Forum could not have been the success that it was without all of your support. We would especially like to thank all of our organizing partners for the amazing collaboration throughout the week of events. We are excited to share with you this album which includes photos from both the New York Innovation Forum and all of our extended Peace Boat US Climate Week 2026 events.

The New York Innovation Forum for Sustainable Development was hosted during a pivotal week for global dialogue. The forum brought together voices from civil society, conservation, business, technology, finance, and policy to exchange ideas and strengthen partnerships for ocean and climate action. The conversations centered on a shared question: how can we turn innovation and collaboration into solutions that reach communities and advance the Sustainable Development Goals? We are grateful to everyone who contributed their perspectives, made new connections, and will help to carry these conversations forward. This year’s Family Office Forum luncheon was co-hosted with Peace Boat US, Welch International, Jonathan Barry and Katie Hoffman. We look forward to more collaborations for sustainability!

Blue Planet Alliance Celebrates the Republic of Naoero’s Bold Commitment to Achieve 100% Renewable Energy by 2028!

We proudly congratulate the Republic of Naoero, a Pacific Big Ocean State of approximately 12,000 people, on a landmark step toward achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2028. This week, Naoero Utilities Corporation (NUC) announced a historic Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Dawn Solar, in partnership with Huawei, to accelerate the nation’s transition away from imported fossil fuels and toward a future of energy independence, economic resilience, and sustainability.

Under the agreement, a 25-megawatt solar photovoltaic system supported by 75 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage will be installed, operated, and maintained by the independent power producer, with ownership transferred to NUC after 15 years. The initiative is projected to displace approximately 12 million litres of imported diesel, potentially representing $85 million in avoided fuel purchases before accounting for project costs and the timeframe over which fuel is displaced.

Beyond its environmental benefits, this milestone represents something profoundly important for Naoero and the wider Pacific: energy sovereignty, economic resilience, and greater independence from volatile global fossil fuel markets.

Looking back at Mexico, the final stop of our Youth for the SDGs Latin America Voyage! 🇲🇽🌊

From marine research at IMIPAS, the Mexican Institute for Research in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, which leads scientific and technological research supporting these sectors, we met the people working to protect Mexico’s coastal ecosystems.

We took a boat tour through Santiago Bay and hosted a closing dinner which marked the end of two unforgettable weeks across Panama, Guatemala, and Mexico, celebrating everything participants had learned and the friendships formed along the way. 💙

Now, a new journey is on the horizon and you could be a part of it! 🚢
The next Youth for the SDGs voyage will sail from Mexico, to Canada, and Alaska, from June 25 to July 15, 2027.

📅 Registration deadline: March 1, 2027
🌎 Need-based partial scholarships are available for applicants ages 18–30.

Grateful for the opportunity to join an incredible group of leaders at the New York Innovation Forum during NYC Climate Week for a conversation on how we move global commitments beyond high-level declarations and into meaningful action at the community level.

Our discussion touched on everything from the BBNJ Agreement and protection of the high seas, environmental law, the blue economy and the realities of implementation on the ground.

For me, it was an opportunity to bring a SIDS perspective to the table and to speak about something I continue to believe strongly: global ambition means very little if it does not translate into change that communities can actually shape and benefit from.

One of the recurring themes I heard throughout Climate Week, particularly in conversations around renewable energy, was equity in the energy transition. We have the technology. We have many of the solutions. The challenge now is ensuring that the transition is fair, accessible and does not leave small island states and vulnerable communities behind.

I loved that so many young people show up as well and ask thoughtful questions. There is so much work still to do, but conversations like these remind me how much knowledge and commitment already exists.

A special thank you to my sisters Ashaya and Chantal for making the drive to New York to hear me speak, and to @jenajanse for the support. It meant more than you know. 🥹

And thank you to our partners at @blueplanetallianceorg , @peaceboatus and @riseup4theocean_ for creating spaces where these conversations can happen and where local perspectives can be part of global ambitions. 🙏🏾💕

“We need plans and deadlines, and through knowledge, finance and collaboration, we can build a world where islands are not only surviving but thriving, shining as beacons of what is possible when we work together with urgency and purpose.” — Henk Rogers, BPA Founder

We’re excited to see Germany take the first steps toward a fossil-free future and we commend the German government for putting forward a clear roadmap to get there.

Germany has published a national roadmap for transitioning away from fossil fuels, setting out how the country plans to end its dependence on coal, oil and gas by 2045.

This kind of long-term planning is essential: setting a clear destination creates a framework for governments, communities, utilities, and businesses to turn ambition into action.

This is exactly why roadmaps are at the heart of Blue Planet Alliance’s work.

We’ve seen firsthand that a commitment is powerful, but a roadmap is what helps turn that commitment into a pathway for action.
