Our current Featured Artist is Jessi Donovan, a Lexington-based serial hobbyist whose work is anything but ordinary.

A self-taught artist drawn to color film photography, DIY processes, and anything colorful and punchy, Jessi develops every photograph at home, in the bathtub, no less, before individually scanning, converting, and color-correcting each image.

In 2021, Jessi began his “LIMINALITY” series, documenting local queer individuals and couples through portraits and collaborative zines incorporating their own handwritten reflections on gender and queer joy. The result is intimate, personal work that captures identity not as a beginning or an ending, but as an ongoing process of becoming.

We're doing it again this Sunday! Bring a book, grab a seat, and be among other book lovers on Sunday October 4th for the next meeting of the Books in Bars Reading Society, 6pm-9pm at Blue Stallion Brewing.

For those new to the whole shebang, this isn’t a book club. You read any book you want, show up anytime you want, interact with others or not- the event is simply an opportunity to do your own reading thing with others doing their own reading thing.

We’ve got the loft space reserved, but Sunday nights at Blue Stallion have typically been really chill, and there’s all kinds of space to spread out. If the weather is as lovely as promised, I will out on that patio.

And don’t forget, Blue Stallion has a little in-brewery free library by the front door, so if you hate the book you brought with you- or simply forgot to bring it- there’s a shelf that might have your next favorite book sitting there waiting for you.

Also, don't forget that the day before, Blue Stallion will be doing their book swap. This happens every Saturday, coinciding with the Sunday book group thing.

Blue Stallion Brewing Co. is at 610 W 3rd St, Lexington, KY 40508.
