Sometimes clients will ask me how I decide where each petal goes on my hand-painted cakes. Do I sketch it out beforehand? Do I know exactly what the finished design will look like?

And the answer is… not really! 🤍

I usually start with a general vision for the composition and movement, but so much of the process is intuitive. I have to “feel” it. Sometimes I don’t know what a design needs until I see it coming together. It’s one petal at a time.

And I feel incredibly lucky to have clients who give me the creative freedom to work that way. Who trust my vision even when I can’t tell them exactly what the finished piece will look like. I’ve always felt like in order to stay true to myself as an artist and to enjoy this process I have to allow some room for creative freedom.

That kind of trust is such a gift to an artist and makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have so many clients who trust me year after year. 🤍 taken in Chateau 1800 by @blushedbyreva

Sometimes the best decisions are the ones you make knowing they’ll break your own heart. 💔

I wish I had understood that sooner. And if there’s one lesson I hope my children learn without having to learn it the hard way, it’s this:

Doing the right thing won’t always feel good. The fruit comes from prioritizing obedience over our feelings. Peace doesn’t always come immediately after obedience, either. And sometimes trusting God’s plan means surrendering something you desperately wanted to be part of it.

You can love someone deeply and still know that letting go is the right decision.

You can grieve what could have been while trusting that God knows what will be.

Because the measure of a right decision isn’t always how much happiness it brings you in the moment. Sometimes it’s the peace that comes from knowing you chose faith over fear, obedience over attachment, and God’s will over your own.

Sometimes a broken heart isn’t evidence that you made the wrong choice. It’s evidence that you made a difficult one.

And I’d rather my children learn to trust God through the heartbreak than spend their lives holding on to something simply because they’re afraid of letting go. 🤍 by @blushedbyreva
