Body In Mind Training: A unique mindfulness method based on movement - neuroscience - psychology - creativity. @drtamararussell
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We have World Mental Health Day coming up next month and the theme for this year is "Experts by Experience".

For some time now, I've been interested in the challenges and opportunities faced by mental health & healthcare practitioners who are living and working with their own expertise and who hold a "dual lens".

By "dual lens", I mean those who work with neurodiverse and/or mental health clients AND who are also part of the growing number of late-diagnosed ADHD practitioners too.

Inspired by Joni Mitchell's classic song "From Both Sides, Now" (1966), I'm going to be running a creative reflective workshop. Using some of these profound lyrics as prompts to explore how this dual lens plays out in our work, play and lived experiences.

I will share insights from my own experiences navigating the professional therapeutic space "from both sides", trying to balance my own needs with those of my clients and what this looks and feels like when you start to unmask.

Still saying the same stuff that @silmarcuri and I wrote about more than a decade ago.
We need mindful movement more than ever now.....
For ourselves as practitioners
For our clients who may be wrigglers or with different learning styles.
For those who have intense emotions.

Mindful movement is a synergy or alchemy.
More thab the sum of its parts. taken in Northampton, Northamptonshire by @bmt.uk

I help therapists/mindfulness practitioners, coaches and educators working 121 or with groups to safely and confidently offer a range of mindful movements to their adult clients whom may  struggle with standardized seated approaches.

It's not about learning new scripts and practices

It's a deep inquiry into what it means to be a living moving being in a body
Engaged in a life.

WHY ARE SO MANY THERAPISTS LACKING IN CONFIDENCE?

I'm researching this question and keen to hear from you

I’ve met so many therapists who KNOW movement will be helpful for their clients, but lack the confidence to introduce doing something that seems so radically different to our expectations.

Therapy is seated right?

Talking right?

It can feel like a big jump (literally) to a movement practice.

I help therapists/mindfulness practitioners, coaches and educators working 121 or with groups to safely and confidently offer a range of mindful movements to their adult clients whom may  struggle with standardized seated approaches.

These clinicians and allied healthcare workers often KNOW mindful movement will be helpful for their clients but they

lack confidence in how to introduce mindful movements

Are not trained to guide mindful movements optimally

Are worried about clients with injuries or physical difficulties

Have concerns about what can be done in the sometimes restrictive environments in which they work.

Are not sure how to adapt movements

HOW CAN I BRING MINDFUL MOVEMENT TO MY CLIENTS WHO MIGHT BENEFIT?

Therapists, educators and mindfulness professionals are OFTEN coming to me for supervision and training on how to safely and confidently bring mindful movement into their sessions.

The reality is, the standardized mindfulness protocols and therapy trainings are woefully lacking in both movements, and training in how to deliver them.

I work with individuals who are serving clients with complex presentations, often in challenging environments.
Or who want to offer this 121.

They KNOW mindful movement is likely to be helpful but they don’t know how to do it.

They tell me they do not feel confident to introduce mindful movement
They don’t know which movements to do when
They are worried about safety (psychological and physical).
They are not doing the movements themselves.

There are TWO “movements” you mind needs to do it you want to work in this way.

Redefine mindfulness (and design with the brain in mind)

Think about what movement ACTUALLY means (its more than you think)

These two shifts will open up a treasure trove of possibilities not only for your clients but also for you.

Reach out if this resonates with you.

I’d love to chat!
