ANNOUNCEMENT THE CYNTHIA ABUWA WEKPE MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR YOUNG FEMALE PLAYWRIGHTS 2027 An Annual Award - Theatre for Young Audiences Organised by The Art of Play Initiative (TAPI) In Memory of Cynthia Abuwa Wekpe This annual prize is established in memory of Cynthia Abuwa Wekpe. She was a 'warrior.' Abuwa had #sicklecell disorder, and that didn't restrict her from living life to the fullest. She was an amazing writer, dancer and dedicated theatre artist. Abuwa was passionate about teaching young ones about arts and craft. She loved books and read voraciously. She turned her sitting room into a studio for young people. Abuwa was 40 years old when she died on 9th March, 2017. Details will be announced in the first week of November. by @bnnrepertory
Acting isn’t just lines + vibes. It’s a whole mental gym AND a full body workout. The line between your head and your body? That’s where INTIMACY lives and EMPATHY thrives. And that’s where actors either cook... or crash out. This workshop is about how to "feel it, understand it, and do it safely" — no weirdness, just real craft. Acting is a Psychological expedition. Acting is a Physical activity. The dividing line between both experiences is intriguingly the connecting line between both of them. At this junction, INTIMACY presents as a moment of decision. This workshop will explore how Actors appreciate, understand and respond to such Emotions and walk the part safely. For enquiries, DM... @bnnrepertory or @i.am_easerel on IG #acting #emotions #memory #intimacy #empathy by @bnnrepertory
Memory is an intricate web. It is a collection of emotions. It is a series of actions. Memory allows the Actor to thrive. It must not be distorted. There are two flip sides of #memory: the Actor's and the Character's. They must align as incentives for the Role to BE.come Self. Empathy is a pathway to the Self. This #training explores various techniques to protect Memory, ignite Character, stimulate Role and discover the Self. To be in character is a fundamental attribute of #acting. BE.ing a character is a more intimate #experience. BE.live in a #character is an intriguingly lived moment. The line between BE.ing and BE.live is the idea behind this #training workshop. The workshop offers a space to explore Intimacy and Empathy as critical components of an Actor's tool. Acting is exciting. Acting can relive trauma. Acting can also be traumatic. This, they present as #borderline levels of INTIMACY and EMPATHY. The lines are slippery. The borders might become blurring. And become intense, emotionally! Actors need to understand how they can navigate these 'expected outcomes' in their craft. This #workshop is an exploration of these perceived moments. It will provide practical ways to negotiate the twists and turns. Acting evolves towards empathy which I conceive as BE.ing and BE.live. Training involves the application of techniques and I sum it as... Just BE! And my technique revolves around an elemental resolve to absolve the SELF and Just BE. So, the SELF dissolves to BE! In that moment, the #Actor discovers the Self! This #workshop will define the Self's moment as an intricate yet #conscious set of intimacies where the Actor recovers and maintains her/her dignity in #practice. The idea is to absolve and stimulate multiple layers of #characterisation using a bespoke technique! Let's Just BE...
