I enjoyed making this outfit nearly as much as I enjoyed the @londonfrocktails event last night. It was very inspiring to meet so many talented sewists, all so encouraging and appreciative of all the effort that goes into making clothes. I was dressed (predictably) head to toe in @merchantandmills This is the Sheperd skirt, the Miller waistcoat and the Ottoline jacket all in 8oz sanded twill. The lining is Tumbled Cotton Poplin in Flame. I felt very put together in a matching set, not something I’d usually wear (same goes for skirts), but I absolutely love this outfit, felt very comfortable and ‘me’ and know it will get a lot of use beyond party night…

Thanks to the organisers for all your hard work, it was worth it!

I made this Sheperd skirt from @merchantandmills in their 8oz sanded twill in Monty Tan. It is the bottom half of my @londonfrocktails outfit and I plan to make the miller waistcoat for a complete suit. I’m not normally a skirt person but I really love this, it almost feels like giant cullottes and the heavy fabric gives it the structure I wanted without feeling bulky. Also, check out my pockets… The sew along on YouTube is brilliant, definitely worth a watch as the side plackets are fairly complex. The top is the Olya shirt in white linen. Thanks to the awesome @ivyindigowhite for bringing this great pattern to my attention and to my @ezrideci for the pics 🧡🤎

I made my daughter a prom dress (imagine the pressure!). It’s the Almea from @vikisews Never before have I done so much preparation for a garment - after 4 toiles I decided enough was enough and cut into the beautiful fabric. The dress, which in itself is not a complicated pattern, was made infinitely more challenging due to the slippery fabric cut on the bias. I added in a zip at the back which helped the fit. In the end it was a success, she loved the dress, I think she looked stunning and I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Fabric was the Aesha satin in bottle green from @minervadotcom by @bobbyclover

I fell in love with this linen fabric from @merchantandmills and fancied another button up that wasn’t cropped, so may I introduce you to yet another #grainlinearcher This is made as per pattern (except for the straight sides) in a size 4. I went back and rewatched Jen’s excellent sew along for the collar and managed to make her technique work, it creates a very neat collar stand. I also learnt to align the seam allowances NOT the edge of the fabric on the collar (I always had trouble making it fit). Ten years on and I’m still learning!

I made another #grainlinearcher shirt for my very special Robin. The only mod was to straighten the sides for a more boxy fit. The fabric is a truly beautiful and cosy Japanese flannel from @faberwood_com which is perfect for an autumn overshirt.

My latest makes after a very long break are a pair of Helene jeans by @annaallenclothing in a beautiful Japanese selvedge denim from @faberwood_com , a little floral bandana in a tana lawn from a recent trip to @libertylondon and a Basic Instinct tee from @sasha_secondopiano I made a straight size 6 (I didn’t pre wash/shrink before cutting). These are probably much looser than the intended fit but I love them and they are very comfy to sit in, which is my priority. This pattern has a very high waist but I didn’t alter it, they sit lower because they are a bit big for me. Still deciding on length hence the mega turn ups. For anyone interested these have had a cold bath tub wash post sewing in true selvedge denim geek style. The pattern was clear and easy to follow and I will definitely be making more. Massive thanks to Fiona @faberwood_com as always for the endless advice 💙

Day 12… another old make, actually all my makes are old since I’ve not been sewing much lately, but I realised I had enough clothes and liked the ones I already had. This is the #blaireshirt which is another great shirt pattern, I like that it has no set in sleeves and that you can play with fabric direction. Made in a lightweight cotton ikat from @merchantandmills and cute little square wooden buttons.

Day 11… this #grainlinewillowtank was borne from a few scraps of leftover fabrics, quilted together to make possibly my favourite top of all time. I seem to have made an entire wardrobe around a few staple patterns that I re-use and tweak.

Day 8… Another cropped boxy #grainlinearcher in a gorgeous pink striped linen with added rounded pockets and side vents and a #wikstenunfoldingjacket in another of my favourite linens both from @merchantandmills Trousers are self drafted, these are a bit big for me but I quite like the relaxed vibe 😎 All these makes are a few years old and wearing well.

Day 7… another pair of #mfanna dungarees, this time in a non stretch heavy twill from @merchantandmills The neck scarf I made out of a dress I never wore, I think it was a good decision to cut it up, it makes me happy wearing that little pop of purple, whereas the whole purple dress was too much for me…

Day 6… excuse the serious face 🫤Anyways, here is a #grainlinearchershirt with a rounded collar and added ruffles at cuffs and collar in a lovely indigo linen, twill khaki self drafted trousers for comfort and a rtw knitted tank from @insidejigsaw because the sun disappeared.

Day 5… another make from back yonder - 2020 to be precise. These are the #mfanna dungarees from @monsterfabriken in a black denim with slight stretch. The black tee is the #basicinstincttshirt from @sasha_secondopiano (amazing free pattern) and the scarf was made in leftover linen fabric from a shirt.
Bobby (the dog) is enjoying the insta attention.
