Bobby Scheidemann is an artist based out of Austin, TX. He received a BFA from Texas State University in 2011. He has had work published in VICE, The Rolling Stone, Bloomberg Businessweek and The Baffler. Through his practice, Bobby looks to heighten everyday realities through a combination of impromptu interventions and direct observations through photography.

From Bobby:

Riga House was a space for organizing thoughts and reflecting on work as I played solitaire at sunrise. Through long walks and drives I found myself enamored by the public spaces, historical infrastructure, and natural wildlife. The work made during my time at the residency is a reaction to the experiences housed within and around Columbus. These ranged from standing where the GIF format was invented, to drinking fresh spring water off the road by Serpent Mound, to speaking with employees about their time at Tuttle Park Community Center and a variety of other curious interactions. by @bobbyscheidemann

I met Konstantin back in 2016 at Austin Film Society to watch a movie. One of my first impressions of him was that he had a lot of strong convictions backed by a hearty laugh. His laugh is one of his most endearing qualities, outside of his tenacious work ethic, and has been something I’ve always enjoyed because whenever we watch a movie I literally have no idea what is going to cause him to erupt into laughter. Everytime we watch a movie together I am always playing a sub game of trying to figure out what onscreen will cause him to chuckle and I still to this day have never gotten it right. I have surrendered to the fact that it’s not something I can predict; it is simply part of the movie going experience with Konstantin that makes every screening we attend joyful.

I’ve gotten to know Jessie over this last year and have found that no matter what the social function is we always end up having meandering conversations that are insightful and interesting to reflect on as I drive home. I’ve gotten a glimpse of Jessie’s art process and can say that she is a talented artist who is totally dedicated to her practice. There is a discreet tempo of intensity and passion that she deploys within her art that informs every aspect of her external life.

I knew that this relationship was special, outside of their similar philosophical wavelengths and the tenderness they show each other, when we met up for a movie on an icy winter day. I remember sitting in the theater waiting to hear that memorable laugh come from Konstantin but to my surprise they both erupted in laughter at the same thing. I was so enamored by what took place that I spent the majority of the film watching them react to the film. That shared laughter in the theater felt like watching them get on a train together towards a very warm future.

I am grateful they invited me to document their wedding day and I love them very much. I am looking forward to seeing what they laugh at together from here on out. by @bobbyscheidemann

I think one of the first things Erin Cooper ever said to me in 2008 went something along the lines of, “Bobby you should come to this party I’m hosting and it might be fun if you bring your camera! See you there!”

Later I remember opening the glass sliding door at the Treehouse Apartments in San Marcos and seeing every inch of her 700 square foot apartment currently occupied by faces that I still think about to this day. Despite everyone squeezing into this apartment, Erin was somehow floating around the room and finding ways to be over the moon to whoever she was talking to. Sure, hindsight is a funny thing in general, but I kinda felt at that moment that somewhere future Bobby would be looking back from some unknown party that Erin had put together again connecting all the dots to this very moment. That unknown party turned out to be one of the most important parties that Erin ever put on; her marriage to Elissa.

Since 2008, no matter what roads Erin and I were on, we always seemed to cross paths at high speed on some sort of metaphysical freeway junction, usually with a camera in tow. In college it was always parties or turning student organization events into parties, after college it was running around different cities like Chicago and New York, and now well into adulthood it’s turning running far distances, art community events, and actual employment into parties. I am excited for these two and I hope these pictures show that excitement. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the both of them. Lots of love to Erin and Elissa and thank you for another invitation to one of the greatest parties I’ve been to. by @bobbyscheidemann

I met Carmen and James at a winter party in my friend Larry’s apartment back in 2017. I remember a night of laughter and that I walked away from the party thinking to myself that they had brought some of the most exciting energy to every room they were in.

From then on, whether it be in various online games, floating the San Marcos River, or events at Wacky Ranch, Carmen and James managed to always create memorable hangouts that always had a constellation of warm friends in tow. I felt very lucky to be their friend and to roll around on their floor with their cats Toad and Birdo.

When I got the call that they were getting married I was over the moon. Then they asked if I would come to Philadelphia to document it and I said, “YES!” I am very grateful they gave me the opportunity to play hooky with them on a Friday afternoon and to run around the city with the two of them to document this momentous occasion. I love them very much and I couldn’t be happier to see them tie the knot. by @bobbyscheidemann
