The Big Boden Hike: Siúlóid Mhór Bhuadáin For more than 20 years, Ballyboden St. Enda’s All-Weather Pitch at Sancta Maria has played a vital role in club life. Every week, hundreds of players across our four codes use the pitch to train, learn, compete and develop. We have an exciting opportunity to build a brand-new All-Weather Pitch — with a better surface, improved drainage and an even better playing experience. Our ambition is to develop the new All-Weather Pitch between May and September 2027, during the closed season. To achieve this the club is committed to raising €155,000 through a club-wide fundraiser - The Big Boden Hike: Siúlóid Mhór Bhuadáin. The Big Boden Hike is an opportunity for the entire Ballyboden St. Enda’s community to come together and take a major step towards delivering our new All-Weather Pitch whether as a walker, a sponsor or a volunteer. On Saturday, 7 November, we’re aiming to bring more than 200 walkers to the Dublin Mountains for a memorable 15km guided hike. Beidh ceol, scéalaíocht agus caidreamh ann, agus ar ndóigh go leor spioraid Buadáin. We already have over 50 walkers on board but we need more boots on the ground!!! We are asking each walker to raise a minimum of €500 before the hike. Walkers will be supported all the way with resources and guidelines to help prepare for the hike as well as to raise funds. This week we caught up with Stephen Hiney, lifelong member of Ballyboden, Senior Hurling Manager and former player. Alongside his wife Elaine, Stephen will be lacing up the (walking) boots on Saturday, 7 November - he told us why participating in this fundraiser is so important to him.  More than 160 individuals have stepped forward to walk and raise funds as part of The Big Boden Hike: Siúlóid Mhór Bhuadáin. For our walkers it is bound to create incredible memories and will enter into the annals of ‘Boden Moments’. A draw or better against St. Sylvester’s sends them through — but the lads will be going all out to finish the group with a win. Minor B Two wins from two and joint top with St. Maur’s on 4 points. 🥁🥁🥁 The Route Revealed - The Big Boden Hike: Siúlóid Mhór Bhuadáin 🥁🥁🥁 Bright and early on Saturday, 7 November our intrepid hikers will be bussed from Páirc Uí Mhurchú to The Gap, Glencullen where they will start their hike. Hikers will walk in groups of 30-35 participants, each led by expert guides with volunteer marshalls along the route. The route will take them up through a wooded path to Three Rock and then proceeding to Fairy Castle - the highest point - before returning in a loop to The Gap. The route itself is a 15km moderate looped hike with a total ascent of approx. 400m and will take about 4-5 hours to complete. The terrain is made up of forest paths, service roads and some stony/rocky sections. It is very doable for anyone with reasonable fitness and the walking pace will be set by guides who will ensure it is suitable for all. Chomh maith le sin beidh ceol, scéalaíocht agus caidreamh ann, agus ar ndóigh go leor spioraid Buadáin ar an tsiúlóid.
