There have been so many more tears of joy than from sadness lately, and I am profoundly grateful.

August brought with it many long awaiting dreams coming true. Our cows came home, I feel part of an amazing community, and my garden is flourishing. These are some of my favorites, though there are so many more in my memory. I hope to cherish this beautiful summer and watch magical things grow long after it starts to get cold. 💛

Been sitting with the state of the world and our country, not really knowing how to speak out. And so, as I often do, I started stitching.
I am a patriot and love this country, but can not stand what is happening, watching all the progress we have made over the past few decades start to crumble. And now we are being ripped apart.
We need to mend. And for me, mending often starts with a needle and thread. So here's where I'll start, and see where it takes me. taken in Boho Cottage by @bohocottage

I found this vintage Sewing Kit/Chatelaine type piece and was excited to add it to my collection. Please share if you have any idea about it's origins!
I have so many vintage sewing goodies (and fabrics) and am thinking about sharing more of them. What do you think? Should I share them here? by @bohocottage

Fun fact...everything in this photo (with exception of the lavender) was being discarded.
All of the blankets, quilts and crocheted afghans, were no longer keeping someone warm. The lace, which was once a curtain, was taken down from the window where it may have been for decades. The cabinet has been painted so many times I am yet to see the first layer, and someone felt it was ready for the landfill.

Maybe it's a problem, this keeping of the things others toss aside. But I think it's a way of seeing the world. Rescuing them for the possibility of a new life, maybe even better than the first time around. by @bohocottage

People ask me all the time what I'm working on and I rarely know how to respond.

Because these days, I'm usually stitching for the simple act of stitching.

For the repetitive motion and removal of rules. For my brain to shut down from the to-do lists and "shoulds," the news cycle and the social media thief of joy through constant comparison.

I'm someone you'll see stitching in waiting rooms and carpool lines and happy to share everything I'm doing, but don't have an answer for, "What's it gonna be?"

It may end up being part of altered clothing, a journal cover, some sort of decor, or a gift or...nothing. Except exactly what it is, and maybe not meaningful to anyone but me.

Because each of the stitches is mine. Each of the knots in the back were pinched by my fingers. Each of these little marks are proof that my hands created something in this world. And that is enough for me.

This. 💔

Ever since I read this quote last week, it has sat with me. Deep in my heart. The echos of the pain trying to warn us. And I knew I needed it to be written out, over and over, for all who see it to absorb the reminder.

Like so many others, I feel powerless as I watch what is happening. And yet we need to continue on. So we go to work and call a friend and say hi to a neighbor and scroll on our phones and take a deep breathe and try to fall asleep. All while the world feels like it's burning around us.
So this little stitching will hopefully last just a little longer than a passing quote on my phone. Because I always want to remember that actually living through the start of a tyrannical regime looks different from we were taught in our history books.

These words were backstitched on a vintage linen gifted to me by @somonocestudio, inspired by @tinypricksproject

It looked like we were re-thinking jeans, jackets, shirts and shoes....

✨but we were sewing magical capes and armor to wear out into the world. ✨These are some of the pieces we created.

We added meaning & connection to the clothing we wear. Each day, as we wear these pieces, we walk out into the world comforted by what is closest to our body and heart.

It was a beautiful & powerful weekend. ✨🫶Strangers met and left as friends. And we are all a bit more padded with comfort to go out into these weird, harsh times. As always, these weekends change me as I see the power of coming together in creativity. This is the antidote for this moment.

Ps. Sewing circle at my studio today, Monday, at 12:30 to 3p🌿✨🪡.

Last week, I had a conversation about needle minders with @robinseiz and how useful they were to keep your needles from getting lost on the floor. Used an enamel pin that I have had lying around and now have a beautiful useful item!

Stitched this adorable pouch yesterday using vintage linen. Was going to take the stitches through the entire piece but decided to leave it with only a few. Also, I didn't have any batting or felt on hand, so I cut down a sleeve from an old sweatshirt to use instead. Loving how it turned out!
