Things that spark joy ✨

Have you experienced “Passage” at Redwood Park? This unique piece of public art created by James Peterson was installed in 2025.

The artist drew inspiration from the beauty of nature and the delightful experience of strolling among apple orchards, paying homage to the agricultural heritage of the Ustick townsite. Clad in vibrant hues reminiscent of fruit orchards, this artwork reflects both the historical and seasonal changing colors of Redwood Park. The bright canopy above and colorful shadows below evoke a sense of wonder and tranquility.

Informed by the rich history of the Ustick area and developed with community input, this artwork uplifts the neighborhood’s past and present. Passage offers an opportunity for all to come together and bask in community.

Check it out the next time you are in West Boise!

On this National Public Lands Day, we’re grateful for the Boise Foothills and all of the open spaces we get to explore.

Boiseans approved the first Foothills Levy for open space conservation 25 years ago. Today, it’s hard to imagine what our city would look like without the foothills viewshed, or the expansive Ridge to Rivers Trail System we know and love.

It’s an honor to be stewards of this land, and continue the work to protect what makes Boise look and feel like home 💚

This free, family friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the @jimhallfoothillslearningcenter — enjoy hands-on kids activities, tasty treats, a “Best in Nest” bird themed dress-up contest and more. Plus, our friends at @boiseartsandhistory are offering free guided tours at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. with information on Boise’s conservation legacy. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the city’s first Foothills Levy, which was approved by Boise voters in 2001. Link in bio to learn more and secure your spot on a tour!

Entry into Julia Davis Park and Ann Morrison Park (where the finish line is located) will be temporarily impacted throughout the morning event. Please plan ahead! Visit fitoneboise.org for official race information and to view course maps.

Zoo Boise is happy to share positive news about Jabari, the zoo’s 16-year-old male giraffe, following the comprehensive health examination he received in July 2026.

Jabari has been experiencing some common age-related changes due to his advanced age, including arthritis and slower mobility. Zoo Boise scheduled the exam proactively to get a more complete picture of his health and gather valuable information that will help the veterinary and animal care teams continue providing him with the best possible care as he grows older.

The exam was the most comprehensive Jabari has received and included a full physical examination, blood work, radiographs, hoof reshaping, and additional health assessments.

Jabari took a few days to return to his normal routine and diet following the procedure, but he is doing well. His lab work was normal, his hooves were reshaped during the exam, and radiographs showed no fractures in the bones of his feet.

Overall, the exam provided encouraging information and gives Zoo Boise’s veterinary and animal care teams an important new baseline for monitoring Jabari’s health into the future. He will continue with his existing senior care plan, while the information gathered during the exam will help staff monitor and treat age related changes in the years ahead.

A total of 32 people assisted with Jabari’s exam. The team included Zoo Boise veterinary and animal care staff, a giraffe specialist, experienced farriers, and professionals from a partner zoo. The large team and months of preparation helped ensure Jabari received a high level of specialized care throughout the procedure and recovery.

In recent years, Zoo Boise has implemented a variety of measures to support Jabari’s comfort and wellbeing, including pain management, specialized supplements, customized training, thermal imaging technology, and habitat modifications.

Jabari has long been one of Zoo Boise’s most beloved residents and Zoo Boise is grateful for the support and well-wishes the community has shared for Jabari and looks forward to continuing to care for him throughout his senior years.

The changing leaves and wildflowers blooming at Kathryn Albertson Park in Boise create a stunning backdrop for photos 🍁 That’s why it’s one of our most visited park sites in the fall, and it’s up to all of us to do our part to make sure this beautiful park and the wildlife that call it home continue to thrive for generations to come.

Please keep these Leave No Trace reminders in mind if you are visiting this popular park in the coming weeks:

🥾 Stay on designated paths and do not trample or pick the wildflowers
📷 Only place photo subjects on durable surfaces (dirt, grass, pathways) and be mindful of signage
🦌 Respect the wildlife
🦮 Keep dogs leashed at all times and always pick up after them
🚫 Leave confetti and streamers at home
🚮 Pack out all trash
🫶 Be mindful of other park users

Kathryn Albertson Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Bikes and scooters are not allowed in this natural oasis — thanks for parking them before you enter! Additionally, there’s no fishing allowed in this park’s ponds.

Thank you for your help as we work to protect these precious open spaces our community enjoys! taken in Kathryn Albertson Park by @boiseparksandrecreation
