🪶🌀HAPPY INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY! 🔅✊🏽

From all of us at Victory In Puerto Rico (V.I.PR.), we honor our Taíno ancestors and Indigenous peoples worldwide! WE DO NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS! We refuse to glorify a man whose arrival ushered in centuries of colonization, enslavement, and genocide throughout Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and the Americas.

OUR ANCESTORS WERE NOT DISCOVERED. THEY WERE INVADED! Despite centuries of attempted erasure, our Indigenous roots remain alive in our bloodlines🩸, culture, and traditions. We are descendants of warriors and survivors, and their legacy will NEVER be forgotten!

¡QUE VIVA BORIKÉN!

¡VIVA PUERTO RICO LIBRE!

ashleytheebarroness What bothered me most was how familiar all of this felt.
Keep people fighting each other.
Keep everybody suspicious.
Keep people so busy trying to survive that nobody has time to look up and ask who actually benefits.
Fred Hampton was trying to get people to do exactly that.
And apparently that scared the FBI enough to make up a whole story and try to get somebody killed.

In a famous 1975 interview, the Shah of Iran challenged Western economic double standards over crude oil prices. When confronted about surging oil costs, he pointed out that Western nations had hiked their exported wheat prices from $60 to $245, arguing that resource-rich nations have every right to price their commodities at fair market parity and defend vital trade corridors like the Strait of Hormuz against foreign financial pressure. by @bomba_lou

@rozanawithrida What happens in an empire’s colonies rarely stays in the colonies.
The “imperial boomerang” describes how tactics developed to surveil, control, and police colonized populations can eventually return home, reshaping policing and state power there too.
From fingerprinting in colonial India to counterinsurgency abroad and the militarization of American policing, this history shows that empire doesn’t just transform the people being ruled. It transforms the institutions doing the ruling.
Here’s quick history of the imperial boomerang, and why the concept still matters today.

It’s interesting that white gentrifiers can come in to diverse communities in the city but when we black and brown ppl move into their suburbs they uncomfortable. It happened to me as a neighbor in middle sex suburbs asked me where I’m from because I had a PR flag on my teeshirt. I gave him a quick education but it doesn’t matter because it’s white rage that he has Borikuas living next to him that are doing better economically and educational wise. The white neighbors were white middle working class work as construction. They hated that they have ppl of color doing better than them. So my job now is to bring Sofrito to the Suburbs. We as a ppl can adapt with any race, ethnicity and cultures but they just gentrify and displace and God forbid you move to their neighborhoods. 🥫🍛🥟🌮🥑🇵🇷 by @bomba_lou
