🪶🌀HAPPY INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY! 🔅✊🏽

From all of us at Victory In Puerto Rico (V.I.PR.), we honor our Taíno ancestors and Indigenous peoples worldwide! WE DO NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS! We refuse to glorify a man whose arrival ushered in centuries of colonization, enslavement, and genocide throughout Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and the Americas.

OUR ANCESTORS WERE NOT DISCOVERED. THEY WERE INVADED! Despite centuries of attempted erasure, our Indigenous roots remain alive in our bloodlines🩸, culture, and traditions. We are descendants of warriors and survivors, and their legacy will NEVER be forgotten!

¡QUE VIVA BORIKÉN!

¡VIVA PUERTO RICO LIBRE!

Our Secretary at Arms/3rd in Command @induja_netri sharing a few powerful words on the devastating effects of colonialism, Project Esencia, La Junta, and Puerto Rico’s illegal debt crisis during the press conference ahead of today’s City Council Committee on Cultural Affairs, Libraries & International Relations at the Schomberg Center in Harlem,NYC.

We MUST continue to take up these spaces and make sure that this institution, and every institution hear us loud and clear: OUR VOICES WILL NOT BE SILENCED! 🆓🇵🇷

We also want to thank Councilwoman Alexa Avilés on the resolutions she has put forward (Res. 27, 28, & 494) calling for and end to Project Esencia, Puerto Rico’s illegal debt, and the Fiscal Oversight Management Board aka La Junta and their genocidal practices on the people of Puerto Rico.

WE KEEPING OUR FOOT ON THEY NECK!!! 💯✊🏽

This Saturday, we’re taking it to the streets of Jersey City to MARCH FOR PUERTO RICAN INDEPENDENCE!

The water crisis, our crumbling infrastructure, the sliced University of PR budget, The Jones Act, Act 60, The privatization of our electrical grid, The privatization of our beaches and sacred land, the forced displacement, and now Esencia, a proposed mega-project threatening nearly 2,000 acres of thriving ecosystem in Cabo Rojo.

Different issues, same root: COLONIALISM!

As long as Puerto Rico remains a colony of the United States, our land, resources and communities will continue to be treated as something to exploit and sell to the highest bidder.

INDEPENDENCE IS THE ONLY ANSWER….

This Saturday, we march for the liberation of our land in solidarity with our people back home who continue to suffer the consequences of colonialism, but WILL NOT be defeated!!! ✊🏽 #TheTimeIsNOW
