POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Six years ago, Rotterdam DJ legend DJ Tache sent me a YouTube link that completely blew my mind: "La Buga Na Guaguilla" by Guatemala's Super Banda Caribe—a powerhouse 13-piece big band of Indigenous and African musicians.

Originally hidden on their rare LP Wabina Ja (shoutout to the deep-digging Discodelic crew for unearthing it!), this masterpiece of Afro-Indigenous Garifuna Punta music has been criminally slept on by modern DJs. Until now. 😉

I became obsessed. I needed to bring this insanely energetic dance music to today’s club sound systems. But first, I had to find a high-quality source—a quest that took me six agonizing years until a Central American collector finally hooked me up with the audio.

To prime it for the club, I stripped back some original elements, supercharged the low-end, and added a heavy new drum groove, driving bass, synths, flutes, and dub sirens (because why not?! 🚨).

🚣‍♂️ "To Livingston in my Little Boat!"
To play this right, you gotta respect the roots. The Garifuna people are descendants of shipwrecked African souls and indigenous Island Caribs who settled along the Caribbean coast of Central America.

The title is a beautiful slang fusion:

"La Buga" = The local name for Livingston, the coastal heart of Guatemala’s Garifuna community (meaning "The Mouth" of the river).

"Guaguilla" = Garifuna for a traditional dugout canoe (guagua) with a Spanish twist ("little boat").

Essentially: “To Livingston in my Little Boat.” It’s a tropical boat party heading down the river to play drums and dance.

I called my rework "El Ritmo Garifuna" to honor that legacy.

👉 DJs, collectors, music lovers: Link in bio to grab your copy. Drop it in your sets, crank the volume, and let's take a trip to La Buga! 🚀

After years of requests from dj's and collectors, I’ve finally professionally transferred and restored what may be one of the last copies in existence of the Soca Conga!

Did you know the global hit "Conga" by Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine was not born in the humidity of Little Havana, Miami?

In reality, its origin story began in Utrecht, the Netherlands, in 1984.

Following a performance of their first hit with English vocals "Dr. Beat" in legendary Disco Club "Cartouche"...

... the band continued their encore, switching to traditional Cuban rhythms along with the famous repeating Latin Piano rifs (the Montuno groove).

The foundation for "Conga" was born.

The Dutch crowd went absolutely wild and it was proof that this Latin sound didn't just belong to Miami or Cuba—it belonged to the world.

Witnessing that reaction, Gloria and the band wrote "Conga" immediately after.

For many, myself included, "Conga" remains Peak Latin: a landmark track that pushed Latin music into the global mainstream.

No track would ever come close to rivaling the original.

That was untill I discovered the insanely rare Canadian soca Cover "Soca Conga" by "Pryme Tyme" ....

.... The track, which besides my fascination for Soca music, really stands on its own.

Probably because it somehow tries to be something else and it succeeds in that:

A stripped down instrumental version with Roland Juno-6 synth lines and yes, some lingering soca percussion drizzled on top.

A version that actually comes pretty darn close to the throne!

With an extensive remastering treatment, slight arrangement and drum edits for the modern dancefloor. It’s a must-hear for any "Conga" lover—and well, you can definitely play this "Pryme Tyme" ;)

After almost a 6-year break from my personal Bandcamp, I’ve returned to a newly equipped studio to continue the Edit magic I once started.

Opening the archives with a heavy-hitting remix of "Primitive Desire." This version honors the 8-minute Hi-NRG bliss of the original 12" but adds snare rolls, synth stabs, and a full professional remaster.

Bongo Edits are back Baby!
