I love the awareness it has brought to a HUGE part of our country’s history! I have read historical fiction for years, and not once have I ever come across one about the Japanese incarceration camps. The Gods Will Sing Our Song weaves Japanese deities and lore, with beauty and love, all in the face of so much pain and anguish. We are immersed into this world with some fantasy elements, but we never lose sight of how devastating this event truly must have been. My heart breaks for all the characters in this story. Not only are we following and capturing our MC’s but we truly get a glimpse into the lives of all of our side characters. They are all sharing this experience, yet are all actually living slightly different ones based on their family dynamic. The way Krause takes us on this complete gut wrenching journey is poetic! Though we are outsiders, you will truly feel a part of this injustice, and I think HUMANITY needs this story! “Everything that happened perplexes me. I wish we understood each other better. If you understand only your own side and cannot grasp the other, I fear you can’t say you know either one, yours or theirs.” “I want you to remember something. Love always casts a light. Not always very far in dark times, but always ahead.” “Maybe we don’t know everything, and those glimpses of goodness are real. Can everyone give me a pat on the back for making content even though I fear I may die of an ear infection?? In all seriousness, I am but a BREATH away from chopping it off. If anyone has any recommendations of how to alleviate ear pain, please hit me up. I’m willing to try just about anything. Tbf, if I was in Thromarra, ear pain would be the least of my worries (IFYKYK). Can I also just say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who answered this question!
