2025 5🌟 Reads
.
2025 was another record reading year where I devoured 164 books. However it was slightly poorer on the 5 star front, with only 17 of them reaching this rating this year. So sadly that’s only 10.4% of my total reads compared to 17% in 2024!

So, without further ado, here’s a list of them in a vague kind of order:

2025 what a magnificently crazy year…

From reading ARCs from some of my all-time favourite authors (cough cough @adele_parks , @thatphoenicia and @adrienneyoungbooks ), moving into my new glare and making it a home, seeing half a dozen concerts, a multitude of hockey games, reading 164 books in 12 months, travelling the length and breath of the country (all the way from Edinburgh down to Portsmouth) seeing the remains of the Mary Rose, @mcflymusic and @busted bringing out five year Rachael for two of her favourite nights of her life, of course some theatre trips and meeting wonderful people like @alice_fearn11 and @carriehopefletcher at stage door (again), receiving my first ever publisher mail from the wonderful folks over at @hqstories , fundraising for my hospital with the @officialsteelers (thanks again for all your incredible work @ktanz93 @tanseysmash and @heardthathockey ), @chesterzoo and @yorkshirewildlifepark trips and practicing my photography skills, reconnecting with old friends (and most importantly, their cats) it’s been a wild ride.

There’s been some ups and downs and some wobbles along the way too, and I’m immensely grateful to the friends who dragged me through with stupid memes and who listened to some very long rants, but I’m so excited to see what 2026 brings into my life.

Happy New Year Everyone! 🎉💕✨

🎈 Happy 100th Winne the Pooh! 🎈

Like so many others, this little yellow bear has been a huge part of my life, all the way from childhood to meeting him at Disneyland and getting the best hug a couple of years back.
This edition of the complete stories and poems will forever be one of my treasured possessions as it’s one of only a few things I have from my Grandad who I lost at the young age of two, and I think this dark, cozy night is the perfect one to start a reread… 🥰 taken in Yorkshire by @bookcasebetty

Happy Release Day to Faith Gladwin for The Finalist!

If you ever happen to crave a Twelve Dancing Princesses x Haunted House x Agatha Christie esque ‘they die one by one’ horror/thriller, well, do I have the very perfect but very specific recommendation for you.

This was perfect in all the best creepy ways. When seven ballerinas head to an eerie mansion in the mountains for a ‘retreat’ and the chance to audition for the solo of a lifetime, of course things aren’t as perfect as they seem…

Starting off as a delicious thriller and touching on horror as we while away the time in the manor, this sapphic ballerina book is perfect for anyone who wants to devour something a little darker this Halloween

A huge thank you to Faith Gladwin, Grand Central Publishing and Netgalley for the chance to read this one early!

when your neighbour back home in wales hears you want to read the books before starting @reacherprimevideo (yes I’m annoying like that) and so makes a donation to you rather than the local charity shop 😍😍

RIP to actually making a dent in my physical TBR this year I guess… 🙈😅 taken in Yorkshire by @bookcasebetty

(Yes my entire post nights plan is a bubble bath, fresh sheets and devouring this in one sitting… it’s still reading off my physical TBR, right? 😅) taken in Yorkshire by @bookcasebetty

“A circle of chalk, a ring of stone, and a house of arches to call the far gods home”
.
I finally read one of the oldest books on my physical TBR! 🎉 (Everyone please clap and be proud of me)

After having the absolute privilege to step amongst these ancient stones last month, I just knew I had to pick up this wonderful epic the second I got home and it was definitely worth the wait for that ‘perfect moment’ to read it! taken in Stonehenge by @bookcasebetty

[ARC received in exchange for my honest review]

Liane Child 🤝 writing the perfect bingeable thriller that I will devour in a single sitting

I absolutely loved The Tradwife’s Secret last year, but Someone Just Followed You absolutely blows that out of the park with a deliciously dark twisty thriller about social media, childhood influencers, creepy men on the internet, a kidnapping and a side plot that gave hints of a Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.

Once again, we are faced with multilayered, complex characters, who although they are vile and disgusting, somehow think they’re doing what they are doing for the right reasons. (And money. It’s always about the money.) Child writes the character you love to hate, balancing them perfectly with the innocent heart of the story that is Maple, a girl who wants to live her life away from the cameras and the bullies at school and eventually, tragically, puts herself in harm’s way to escape the pressure coming at her from all directions, both on the internet and off.

The major twist that I love about this book is how Child addresses a really dark but completely (and terrifying) almost reality with the characterisation of AI in this book, almost making it the main enemy and catalyst of a lot of the issues these characters end up facing. It really made me think about this current reality where AI is becoming more and more common in day to day use to the point where you sometimes can’t avoid it, but it shows us how little we really understand this new creation creeping in to all areas of our lives.

If you love fast paced thrillers, great characters that really get under your skin and a story that explores so many modern moral dilemmas, Liane Child’s books are definitely the ones for you, but particularly for this one I’d recommend to check the trigger warnings as some tough stuff is covered in this one.

A huge thank you to Liane Child, HQ Stories and Netgalley for the chance to read this early!

happy love hypothesis release day! 🎉💕

TLH was the romance book they had sat on my shelves for years and was about to go in the unhaul pile before I thought “oh go on, I’ll give it a quick go” and thank goodness I did because I absolutely ate it up and gave it five stars?

Tragically I can’t watch the movie for a couple of days, but you know I’ll be snuggled up with a sweet treat and an autumn candle on the go and pressing play ASAP! taken in Yorkshire by @bookcasebetty

when the post nights plans are a maximum of fresh sheets, bubble bath and ToG tandem read…

(following being forced to walk 40 mins home from the most horrendous weekend nights, having to duck in @tesco to use the facilities because ya girl didn’t even stop long enough to pee last night and somehow walked out with reduced flowers and ice cream… 🙈😂) taken in Yorkshire by @bookcasebetty
