We couldn't let go of this book without trying one of the many recipes Ruth collected over the course of her life. Ruth's adventures with her college roommate Serafina were one of our favorite parts of the book, so we chose Serafina's famous Guyanese coconut bread recipe to try out in our kitchens. Unlike the step by step instructions in today's cookbooks and blogs, Ruth's recipes are short and to the point. It took way more kneading and proofing and waiting than she led us to believe, but the final product was every bit as delicious as she promised! 🥖🤌♥️

📖TENDER AT THE BONE, by Ruth Reichl
We’ve been savoring this absolute delight of book by NYT food critic Ruth Reichl! Equal parts memoir and cookbook, Ruth takes us through the rich, adventurous life she's had, all through the prism of food and cooking and all the incredible meals she’s made and had in her life. Here are our initial thoughts, detailed post to follow:

@shaaru_menon: I loved this book, just for making me think about what all food and cooking can mean to people. For me, its quantity and quality, the abundance of love. I love the way people light up seeing so many things to try out. I love the cooking process (most of the time) just as much. Put on some music and multitasking. Ruth felt she wasn't pretty or funny or sexy, except she was, and she wanted food to be the thing that endeared her to people. And it did. She was the host and everyone tumbled in at all hours to her place. I loved the way she described food, the delightfulness of trying something new, even while people all around her thought she is "wasting her life" cooking.

@jyothi.ajithkumar: This book made me feel ALL THE FEELS! The warmth and comfort of feeding and being fed, the delight in knowing how your food makes people feel, the joy of tasting something new, I felt everything and more from Ruth's writing. I love that her stories of food are never just about what is being cooked or what is being eaten – each recipe has a story of love or longing or happiness associated with it and reading about each of them made me, in turn, think back to all the wonderful meals from my own memory and the incredible cooks that I’ve gotten to learn from in my life. by @bookgramam

📖 Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason

A wonderful book about living (and loving) with mental illness and the power of diagnosis and recovery. Both of us absolutely LOVED this book, and can't recommend it enough to add to your reading list. 📖Girls They Write Songs About

Just the fact that it was a book about female friendships (writers, no less!) was enough to get us drawn into this book, but what we thought would be a breezy summer read turned out to be one of the best books we've read this year! Brilliant prose, sharp eye to detail and characters that suck you right into the story -this one is a #mustread.

Our first review is the fantastic debut novel by Aravind Jayan!

A middle class Kerala family deals with the aftermath of an incident. If you like family drama, stories about fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, defiance and obeisance of societal norms- its all here.
