“This inhuman place makes human monsters.” The Shining by Stephen King Ok yeah this one was creepy We follow Jack Torrance as he gets an opportunity to be caretaker of the Overlook hotel in the Rocky Mountains. Semi against advisement Jack brings his wife Wendy and 5year old son Danny to join him in isolation during the winter season when the hotel is closed. This book takes takes cabin fever to the next level in that not only is the family secluded but they also happen to be stuck in a hotel with a dark history…a history that lingers, and has becomes malevolent. I think getting the different perspectives of each family member as the tensions and malicious intent of the hotel grew was oh so good and added all these layers to the story. With Jack we get to see one’s own weaknesses and past used against him. We see the twisting and maulipulation of the hotel. We see distortion of reality with moments of clarity and a true display of spiraling into insanity. With Wendy we see the paranoia, we see fear and doubt as well as the internal conflict of doing what is right for her husband, herself, and her son. Danny’s perspective was the hardest and yet the most intriguing. It was hard for me to read just because he is a kid in a horrific setting. But what was so intriguing about Danny is that he has this telepathic and psychic ability called the shine. He can know what others are thinking, has the occasional premonition and is able to see what most can’t. Why I find this so intriguing is the fact that he is also just a kid so the juxtaposition of having this ability to have this plethora of knowledge and yet still being so new to life and trying to make sense of his surroundings and articulate what he sees and feels is just so fascinating. The writing also contributes greatly to that eerie feeling because as the story progresses and the characters start to go mad you find yourself feeling like you are loosing your marbles as well. The pasts of the characters blends with the present and overlays with the past of the hotel until we are in a tangled web of realties. 🎃Happy October 🎃 In honor of the first day of October I decided to do a lil pumpkin…stack? …Not so flat, flatlay? …not sure exactly, but it’s a pumpkin! 😅 The initial idea was to do an orange and black pumpkin but I have an alarmingly little amount of orange books so it’s a little lacking in the orange department 😅 Anyway happy October!! Hope you all have an absolutely lovely month! I’ve just started Valor and also I’m on the last part of The Shining! So the month is starting off swimmingly (And thank you to all who have let me discuss my shinning theories with them, you are much appreciated 🙂‍↕️) and thank you to my freezer you are the real mvp here 🤣 QOTD: Have anything fun planned for October? - we are finally out of a fire ban so I am sooooo excited to start sitting outside in the crisp fall air in my cozy clothes making smores again 🥹 QOTD 2: say you were cursed by a witch to be permanently turned into an animal…what animal are you choosing ? - The Thackery Binx lover in me wants to say cat but id also love to be turned into almost any animal that hibernates in the winter 😅 Tagging some homies to show off a pumpkin something or other but as always no pressure 🥰🫡✌🏼 - #books #pumpkin #october #smores #theshining by @bookishbugg

🍁Over the Garden Wall🍁 So I saw @caseys_bookcases do an Autumn stack and talk about her annual rewatch of Over the Garden Wall and as a fellow fan of OTGW I thought I would have a little fun and do a stack in honor of my annual rewatching of this whimsically odd yet lovely little show 🥰 I did a mix of spelling the title and then just a color inspo of some characters and forest-y vibes 😅 And yes my arm does hurt after carrying that stack and yes again they did all fall at one point ( and yes I did lowkey tear up seeing all them them crumpled on the ground and then i debated giving up bookstagram because was it really worth it??? But alas im just ✨dramatic✨ and got over it after a hot shower and some tacos…Ain’t that just the way 😅) O-Oathbringer V- Vicious E- Everything is Tuberculosis R- Ready Player One T- Two Twisted Crowns H- Heir of Fire E- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries G- Good Omens A- A Conjuring of Light R- Red Rising D- Dawnshard E- Empire of the Vampire N- Ninth House W- When the Moon Hatched A- After Dark L- Leather and Lark L- Lost Souls Meet Under a Full Moon QOTD: If you had a pet frog what would you name it?? No tags today but I would absolutely love any all fellow OTGW fans to show off a themed stack or just tell me how much you love the show 🫡🥰✌🏼 #books #bookstack #overthegardenwall #frog #autumn by @bookishbugg

“The only thing that will part me from you is death” Malice by John Gwynne I rather enjoyed this one, I would say it’s a very solid fantasy. You have interesting characters, world building, intriguing magic systems, and a labyrinth of plot lines that are somehow all connected! We follow a few different povs as this ever looming ultimate prophesied good vs evil war in the Banished Lands is starting to stir up. It’s a mystic land with magic, giants, wyrms, wolven and goodness knows what else. And along with mystic beasts and magic it seems betrayal, fractured kingdoms, greed and selfish personal agendas run rampant in the book as well. The flip side is that loyalty, family, bravery, personal growth, are also very prominent and leading themes. And getting to see all sides is one of the reasons I love books with multiple povs. Now are there some povs I liked more than others? Sure! I mean while I liked Veradis as a character I knew his chapters also came with Nathair and he annoys me 😅 but overall I do see that everyone is an important piece to this large puzzle, and how even over a vast world on their own journeys they are all connected somehow. Oh And when I say puzzle I mean PUZZLE! This book is very foundational. It takes a bit to marinate and you can tell its setting you up for an epic story but right now all you have is a bunch of pieces and you keep being handed more, and at times it can feel like you are running out of hands and table space 😅 And while i like a book that makes you think i did take a bit of a break reading this and it was a bit harder to piece together context clues after my break. There were times where I feel like I should have gasped at certain revelations but in a book with a bunch of sword fighting and battle how am I supposed to remember who has long hair and a scar under their eye…. Or was it over? …Anyway my point being that at times i felt like certain discoveries didn’t hit as hard just due to the sheer information given and then having to recall these more tiny details to infer your answer …which yay for brain usage but still😅 Now on to Valor😆 #book #review #malice #bookreview by @bookishbugg

🍁Autumnal TBR 🍁 Thank you to the lovely @tiredgirl.reads for the tag!! As always my TBR is merely a suggestion rather than a set rule as I am truly governed by my mood 😅 still it does help a bit to have some books I’d like to prioritize so the limitless choice doesn’t get too overwhelming. I picked these ones because they give me fall vibes or I feel like they would be good to read in the fall, I could also be totally wrong tho since I haven’t read any of them but such is life The shining is actually going to be my next audiobook as I’m in the last hour of the Empire of the Vampire! I did it yay! I feel like Ship of Magic is going to perpetually be on my TBR but I will get to it some point soon…ish (as I’ve been saying for MONTHS😅) I also included House of Leaves on here cuz I tried to get into it years ago and could feel my head throbbing but now that I own it I figure I can take my time with it and give it another go…but if you catch me in a fetal position on the floor with a broken brain just know that was the book to do it 😅 QOTD: Are you a good witch or a bad witch?? I’ve been on a wizard of oz kick recently after having a rather fun discussion with some coworkers who have never seen the movie 🤣 QOTD 2: Have you seen the new practical magic movie?? And was it good?? I ADORED the og movie and have been terrified to see the new one until I hear if its good or not 😅 Tagging some homies cuz Id love to see your fall TBR and book recs cuz ya girl has a gift card and a hot date with a book store this weekend so I intend to add to this stack and or completely pivot 🥰🫡✌🏼 - #books #tbr #autumn #witchy #bookstack by @bookishbugg

🍁Happy Fall Equinox 🍁 AKA the first day of fall 😆😆 In honor of this glorious occasion @alexcrayonsbooks made an autumnal tree stack and following suit I tried my hand at it too…tho mine is a bit more abstract and mushroomy…but we are all friends here and friends feed each others delusions so I would appreciate if you could tell me it looks EXACTLY like a gorgeous autumn tree 🙂‍↕️😘 I also saw @flip_the_page do a super cool spiral stack recently and since i had all these pretty fall colored books out i thought id try out a fall spiral stack✌🏼 But yeah happy fall!! Im excited to hopefully hunker down a bit and get some more reading done this fall! I just finished Malice ( review coming maybe? Words are hard and im not good with them😅) and so im excited to continue with that series! Among the hundreds of other books I also want to get to 😅 Also i love the shadow in the 2nd slide 🤣 im trying to figure out what i see and it keeps changing 🤣 and now im curious as to what you see?? 👀 QOTD: Do you call it fall or autumn??? Tagging some homies for a tree stack! Or maybe try the spiral? Its really up to you, but as always no pressure 🥰✌🏼🫡 - #fall #autumn #books #tree #firstdayoffall by @bookishbugg

✨Chunky stack ✨ Thank you @manus.bookcorner for the tag!! 😊 We love love love a chunky book over here! Especially a chunky paperback! You can keep your special editions, just give me a tiny spine creased girthy paperback and I’m happy *swoon*😍 Now complete honesty some of these were picked more for page count vs visual thickness but anything in the 800- 1000s pg count I consider chunky so that’s why they are here 😅 Also I figured since we are doing a hearty stack why not make a hearty soup ! ( was this all an elaborate excuse to justify making a soup cuz I’m ready for fall? Maybe….. but be cool about it) QOTD : Favorite soup? I make this vegetable wild rice harvest soup that I crave all the time even in the summer 😅 that or my mom’s chicken noodle soup 🥹 QOTD 2: would you rather your hands be all thumbs or all pinkies? I feel like thumbs would probably be more practical but what would the world come to if we lost the ability to make pinky promises ?!?! Anyway tagging some homies to show some chunky books! But I love to see any and all thick books so if you see this consider yourself tagged and as always no pressure 🥰✌🏼😊 - #books #chunky #soup #fall #bookstack by @bookishbugg

🍁September Stack 🍁 Thank you the the lovely @sci_fibookfntc , @drbookmrcoffee , @alexcrayonsbooks & @raven_reads666 for the tag on this one! 🥰🥰🥰 I am soooooooooooo fucking ready for fall 😅 I long for the days to be buried in sweatshirts/sweaters and blankets while sipping a warm drink. In the meantime I’ll settle for fall decor and iced fall drinks with that sweet sweet pumpkin cold foam 😋 Book wise im almost done with Empire of the Vampire and honestly I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the next one ….its not bad I just don’t feel like I love it or care enough to continue 😅 I am however super exited for my next audio book cuz I’m going to finally read The Shining 😆 I’m very new to the scary/horror/thriller genre so this will be fun!! I love scary movies and all things spooky but somehow never got around to reading too many scary books…so as I make my journey into this new venture I would appreciate any and all book recs ! 😊 QOTD: favorite scary movie? I love a good psychological thriller! I love questioning everything and not being able to sleep…it’s fun! 😅🤣 also a big fan of a cheesy horror or a fun slasher QOTD2: What is something that scares you?? Not super original but I have a terrible fear of spiders…. Like jump and run away scared Tagging some homies for a September stack but as always no pressure 🥰🫡✌🏼 - #books #september #spooky #leaves #fall by @bookishbugg

“Only such a cosmic force could bring about my dream of marriage to a plane—what others vulgarly refer to as a plane crash.” Sky daddy by Kate Folk I’m honestly not too sure how I feel about this book😅 you know the kombucha girl meme? Well that was me basically the whole time reading this 🤣 it’s weird ! And darkly funny and somehow also touching? If you are expecting a smutty plane book then I am sorry to disappoint but this is not the book for you. If however you are looking for an odd lil book that explores isolation, human connection, fate, vision boards …and sexual fantasies about planes then yeah maybe you’ll enjoy this one 😅 The story follows Linda a young woman who is down BAD for aircrafts! To the point where she literally gets off to and on them , but what she wants more than anything is to be in a plane crash (tho she would hate me calling it that), she believes this means the plane has chosen her to be his wife and by crashing this signifies their marriage and passion for one another. Because of her love of planes she has basically isolated herself from society. She is estranged from her family and due to a fear of being misunderstood she has refrained from sharing her passion with anyone. Since she believes it’s her destiny to meet her demise on a plane she tends to keep everyone at a distance so they are not sad when she inevitably leaves this world…or at least this is her logic. Where the book takes on its more tender tone is when Linda actually begins to let people in to her weird little world. Very much the power of friendship vibes over here😅 but even still there is this internal battle of human connection vs plane love . Linda is aloof and pragmatic and driven mostly by her want of marriage to a plane and because of this it can at times lead to her detriment and those around her. My biggest fault with the book is the ending. It felt like we were on the path to healing and redemption just for the last paragraph to undo all that work. That being said it was definitely an entertaining read and the looks from all the flight attendants when I whipped this book out was well worth it 😅 #review #books #planes #booksta #skydaddy by @bookishbugg

🍁Falling leaves stack!!…spiral…something! 🍁 I’ve seen so many people do these super cute book domino spirals and decided since I’m so ready for fall I’d give it a go but make it fall themed 🍁! Admittedly mine is a bit more clunky but leaves don’t fall smoothly any way 🤣 Saw this question on here the other day and thought it was a fun one ! QOTD: would you rather be itchy or sticky for a day ? Tagging some peeps for either a falling leaves stack or to give this spiral a go! Have fun ! But no pressure as always 🥰✌🏼🫡🍁 #books #fall #spiral #leaves #autumn by @bookishbugg

☀️Reverse Sunset ☀️ The lovely @manus.bookcorner tagged me in a purple plus another color stack and I decided to go with yellow! 😊 Upon picking yellow I realized I was getting major sunset vibes but I kinda liked the yellow better on top so we made it a reverse sunset ! (And because I’m indecisive I also did a regular sunset stack and a glitchy sunset …I was going to do more but my arm was getting tired at this point so I said three is good enough😅) QOTD: Would you rather be able to speak to animals or speak every language? -I feel like being able to speak every language would be insanely cool and incredibly helpful for traveling but I can’t shake how incredibly fun it would be to talk to animals 🥹 QOTD 2: Mountain sunsets or beach sunsets? -I love being in a state where I can always see the mountains but since I’m not by the beach a lot I think I would have to pick beach sunsets just for their rarity Tagging some homies for a purple and another color stack , or if you fancy a good reverse sunset I’d love to see it that too, but as always no pressure 🥰✌🏼🫡 #books #sunset #bookstack #yellow #purple by @bookishbugg

🎨5 favorite sprayed edges🎨 Thank you to the lovely and amazing @ovium_reads & @cardcatalogdreams for the tags on this one 🥰 Not gunna lie as someone with a rather limited selection of sprayed edges I found this challenge easy to do😅 don’t get me wrong I love sprayed edges, I think they are gorgeous… I just don’t personally collect them as I’m more of a spine girl myself 😅 That being said, of the sprayed edges I do own these are my 5 favorites and why! ( I know the “why” wasn’t part of the challenge but I’m adding it any way 😊) Princess Bride- Just a sweet story, it’s one of my favorite comfort movies and hearing “as you wish“ will always melt my heart 🥹 A Harvest of Hearts- this one has a bunch of baking utensils and sweets on it and I love baking!! My favorite thing to make is cinnamon rolls… I love them all warm and gooey and with a stupid amount cream cheese frosting The Library of Flowers- this one I think is just gorgeous 😍 and I love flowers and bright things Better than the movies- I love all the music notes as Im a huge music fan! Tourist Season- I mean who doesn’t love some light dismemberment ? QOTD: I saw this question the other day and need to ask …what do you think you could throw farther , a baguette or naan bread?? - I was for sure going baguette until I saw a point that said you could frisbee the naan and now I’m just not sure 😅 Anyway tagging some homies to show those sprayed edges! But as always no pressure!! 🥰🫡✌🏼 - #books #sprayededges #bookstack #asyouwish #fiction by @bookishbugg
