We have successfully wrapped up our Book/Translation Talk with Mr. @seanlinhalbert !

We always recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of translators around the world for helping literature connect with all the bibliophiles and even non-readers in the global community.

As we commemorate the National Translation Month this September, having this session was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the translation process and the journey of literature from one of the most admired translators in our primary book club. In fact, three of the books we have read together this year were translated by Mr. Sean!

He generously shared insightful tips about how translation works, along with his fascinating journey from majoring Physics to Literature. It was truly inspiring to hear about his experiences and the craft behind bringing stories from one language and culture to another.

What an amazing opportunity to e-meet and connect with him through his translated works! We are incredibly grateful to have had this special session with such an award-winning translator.

Among the books he has translated, Perfect Happiness remains the group’s favorite!

Thank you again, Mr. Sean Lin Halbert for bringing Korean stories closer to us, very meaningfully and light as breeze!

If you wish to get a copy of his translated books, “Counter Attacks At Thirty” and “To The Moon” are both available in the Philippine Bookstores!

What a great achievement for my book club batchmates!

I never would have imagined that the one and only Anton Hur—the book club’s favorite translator and the man behind some of the greatest translations in the world of K-literature—would grant our request to meet him virtually and discuss his debut book in the coolest and most endearing conversation.

The talk, which was supposed to last only 30 minutes, turned into an hour, and there wasn’t a single dull moment. He was just as excited as we were to discuss every detail of our questions.
It was truly refreshing to hear the author’s own perspective and see how he thoughtfully shell out every piece of information we asked for—always mindful, always entertaining. One of the things I love about our book club is that we come from different professions, yet we consistently agree on perspectives that align with our shared beliefs and ways of thinking. This is something the book Toward Eternity beautifully brings to light.

Thank you again for your time, Mr. @antonhur , and for the generous knowledge you shared with us. I also want to highlight your wonderful line last night: “Poetry is persistent, and it blasts beyond humanity.”

For those who wish to get their own copy of the book, it’s now available at the @_fullybooked !

P.S. I would also like to thank the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines and our librarian at @kccphil for creating this book club. Without this organization, we wouldn’t have met each other or shared such valuable insights…far beyond just the book. 💛

Finally got my physical copy of Folklorn! (My Current Read) 💛

A novel selected as one of The New York Times Book Review’s 10 Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2021 and was also included in NPR’s Books We Love 2021 written by the one and only Ms. @angela.miyoung.hur !

I’m so happy to have finally purchased my copy at the @_fullybooked Glorietta 4 branch! (Super grateful to have this book already available at our local bookstore!)

Folklorn is a genre-defying novel that explores various themes and absolutely a perfect pick to start your October! 🍂

I initially checked Fully Booked in BGC High Street and SM Aura, but both branches had already sold out! Thankfully, the kind and friendly Fully Booked staff were very supportive to help me find another branch that still had copies available.

If you’re interested in getting this book, you can also reach out to Fully Booked to inquire and they will assist you in getting a copy!

And wait, there’s more! We’re also anticipating a SPECIAL SURPRISE from the author herself coming soon. So stay tuned as you may even get the chance to meet this award-winning author!

Among Ms. Angela Mi Young Hur’s other works is her recently launched book, The Loom Tree 🌳. (A book already on my TBR, another 2026 must-read book!)

I intentionally took my time to process every word while reading this because it gave me so many FUN AND HEART-FLUTTERING MOMENTS! 🥹

I don’t know if this is because I’ve been deprived of romcom books but this story unfolded so many reflections for me about the significance of time & living.

#CafeWaitingLove is such an eye-opening story that touched all my nerves. It prompted me to always live in the present as our youth will not last forever, & we have to experience life in different ways while we can.

Si-ying has always been adventurous, but her world becomes even more colorful and full of life on the day she meets Ah Tuo. Their story might seem like a typical young, romcom plot at first, but their relationship is so much more than a simple youth drama. It explores a different level of intimacy which is something that can only be experienced through genuine connections. (Yup, very complicated these days.)

With technology being one of the biggest factors. People rarely go out anymore, and we often want everything to be easier. But as the book cover beautifully says, “Fate brews slowly. Good things always take time.”

I also wish I could be as clear as water as Ah Tuo, someone who always sees the good in other people, without filters and without judgment. I wanted to be that kind of person & I will try hard to be at least closer to him. Though after reading this it slightly broke me. I cried when I went back to the translator’s note and learned that the real-life inspiration behind the character had already left this world in 2004.

I also love the thought that I happened to read this in September, which is also the same month when most of the important things in the novel happened.

Overall, I rated this 5/5 because everything about this book feels so good, cutesyyy, hopeful, & nostalgic. The ending is also the beginning of something new. And honestly, this is a book I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING AT EVERY START OF THE YEAR.

My very huge respect and appreciation for both the author and the translator for making THIS GEM! @giddens9 @2eightytwo

P.S. I was in SG last May so the translator’s note written in May 2026 felt a lil personal for me 💛

Okay, so since almost all of the members of my book club has already finished this book, I wanted to share my personal thoughts for #AThousandBlues

So far, every book assignment helps me position my life’s decisions from different angles, but I don’t know how I could describe this book because it just clouded my vision with moisture the whole time I read this 😭. In a typical asian family, being non-communicative is such a normal thing, we often share our care and love through actions and this book has exceptionally outlined it. Every one is struggling inside and each of us carries a sense of understanding in making others feel better and safe without saying it upfront (as communication forms in different means.) This book teaches us to be more kind and positive not merely with the humans but all the entities in the world especially the animals.

Inclusivity starts by creating a world for everyone where they can move and grow around without proving themselves in the world we all just shared.

What a spectacular novel @seonrann

(Swipe to see some of my favorite lines 🥹, there’s more I wasn’t just able to pictured it and apologies if it’s not aesthetically captured haha)

This book is available at @nationalbookstore

Did you know that there is a bookshop in the Philippines that focuses entirely on Filipino literature? Ironic as it may sound, it’s actually quite rare to find a bookshop like this in our country.

Honestly, this has always been my dream bookshop, and I finally made it here!

Walking in, it was so refreshing to see shelves filled with books written in Filipino, translated into Filipino, and even written in our local languages. It reminded me of how Korean dramas and films often come from their local literature, and I couldn’t help but wish we’d embrace our own stories the same way.

Bookstores like Mt. Cloud gives a glimpse of longing that Filipino literature can shine globally, while helping Filipinos rediscover our identity at home.

So if you ever find yourself in Baguio, make sure to drop by @mtcloud bookshop! You’ll leave with more than just books, but with stories that feel like home. 💛

P.S. My current read is Watermoon by Samantha Yambao (a Filipino Author) and was so surprised that there are lot of foreigners who loved this book, I just learned it from the recent literary event I attended in Singapore.

Sharing my current read!

A peak romcom novel set in the early 2000s! 💛

A story that will not only take you on a trip down memory lane but it also leaves you with a sense of melancholy as you remember how simple and genuinely fun connections could be back then, before social media takes over the world and when organic encounters were still a natural part of everyday life. What a funny thing to realize, that this kind of genuine connection is what many people long to experience in this generation.

I couldn’t count the actual number of books I’ve read this year, but I’m certain this is my first romantic comedy in a while! It feels so refreshing to read something this warm and comforting. A kind of read you will need to ease your mind when life is becoming overwhelming.

Thank you, Ms. @2eightytwo for making this classic Taiwanese novel known to the world through your translation. I’m so happy to have read it just in time the English version was released.

Thank you also to my fellow book club member for bringing this for me all the way from @kinokuniya_singapore

As a woman who loves to travel, one of my little passion projects is to seek out book cafés and libraries in every place I visit. So, I travelled approximately 12 hours to visit this dreamy library café in Sagada!

On this same day last year, I carried “Welcome to the Hyunamdong Bookshop” with me to Vietnam and read it during that trip. This time, just another solo trip, I brought the same book with me again and read it while simply taking in the moment.

I made a promise to myself to take everything slowly during this long weekend vacation. Somehow, the ambience of the Hyunamdong Bookshop gave me the same feeling I experienced the moment I stepped into this library café in Sagada.

Perhaps it’s the fleeting feeling of a slow-paced life in the Mountain Province, but there is something so earthy, calming, and deeply healing about this place. It’s the kind of spot that gives you a sense of comfort and quiet joy.
Far from the city, but absolutely worth the journey. 💛

True to one’s word, each destination tells a story.

Moments with Mr. @kimhoyeon_storyteller

When we started reading this novel, all of us from the book club shared the same thoughts: this is the kind of story that will truly enrapture your heart.

Healing stories are quite common nowadays, whether found in bookstores, libraries, or cozy cafés. But what makes this book special is its main setting, a 24 Hour Convenience Store, a location where everyone from different walks of life would come and go, and sometimes a place for rendezvous (or only in my experience as 7/11 is the most common meet-up place back when I was still a student 🤣) so basically this is something that I would never imagine to be a place for people who need second chances in life.

It’s very interesting how a convenience store can become a place where second chances are found. A place of hope for those who are slowly losing themselves and a space where healing can happen amidst a deeply devastating and destructive world.

For most of us, it is simply a passing point, a place we visit for a moment before continuing on with our day. Yet in this story, that ordinary place becomes a space where different lives intersect, where people find comfort, and where second chances can be found.

I feel truly lucky to have met this awesome author. I never expected Mr. Kim Ho-yeon to be such a funny, warm, and sociable! Very different from the character of Dokgo haha. This was such a wonderful experience, and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. ❤️

If you wish to meet Mr. Kim Ho-yeon, he will be visiting the #ManilaInternationalBookFair2026 on September 12, 2026, at the National Book Store booth. He will be there to share his thoughts and meet book lovers through a special book-signing session.

So be there and get the chance to have your book signed by him!
