Back in stock: EWA PARTUM - 1965–2001 (Link in bio)

Published by Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe, 2021, 172 pp. (colour & b/w ill.), 21.3 × 29 cm, German/English, €40

Produced on the occasion of the exhibition Ewa Partum: Retrospektive 1965–2000 at Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe, 17 February–16 April, 2021.

In the 1960s and 70s, Ewa Partum was part of the artistic avant-garde in Poland. She sought a new reality in art, considered the possibilities of thought within painting to be exhausted, and championed the new art forms of the time. Starting with the language and concepts that shape our ideas about art as well as our notions of work and practice, Partum focused on semantic material as the “raw material” of art and its visualization. With actions in public space, an understanding of art that referred to active processes in time, and a self-reflexive concept of media, Ewa Partum belonged to the first generation of conceptual artists. taken in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @books__at

Back in stock: HANNE DARBOVEN - KINDER DIESER WELT (Link in bio)

Published by Hatje Cantz, Berlin, 1997, 184 pp. (colour & b/will.), hardcover with CD insert, 21.5 × 30.3 cm, German, €22

From 1990 to 1996, Hanne Darboven worked on Kinder dieser Welt, an extensive opus comprised of several books, toys, brown-paper tablets and 2202 musical “scores”. In a departure from previous practice, the artist employs coloration and a playful approach to modify the stringency of her concept involving the subjective rendering of calendar information to conjure up a cosmopolitan children’s world as a symbol for an optimistic new beginning.

This book reproduces the formally quite diverse and complex segments of the work in sections. An introductory essay explores the way in which the artist fundamentally recapitulates her entire concept of space and time in Kinder dieser Welt, shaping it into an appeal for the discovery of individual rules. An annotated works catalogue and a detailed biography document the life and work of the artist, the recipient of the 1995 International Prize of the state of Baden-Württemberg. #hannedarboven taken in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @books__at

Now in stock: BRION GYSIN - CALLIGRAPHIES, PERMUTATIONS, CUT UPS (Link in bio)

Published by Galerie De France, Paris, 1987, 96 pp. (colour & b/w ill.), 23 × 30 cm, French, €85

Produced on the occasion of the exhibition Calligraphies, Permutations, Cut Ups at Galerie De France, Paris, 16 December, 1986–17 January, 1987

Brion Gysin was a painter, writer, sound poet, performance artist and inventor of experimental devices born in Taplow, Buckinghamshire.

He is best known for his use of the cut-up technique, alongside his close friend, the novelist William S. Burroughs. With the engineer Ian Sommerville he also invented the Dreamachine, a flicker device designed as an art object to be viewed with the eyes closed. It was in painting and drawing, however, that Gysin devoted his greatest efforts, creating calligraphic works inspired by cursive Japanese “grass” script and Arabic script.

Now in stock: MISC. MANFRED PERNICE PUBLICATIONS (Link in bio)

ARTIST KUNSTMAGAZIN: NO. 30, 1/1997

Published by PlanB Werbeagentur GmbH, Bremen, 1997, 58 pp. (colour & b/w ill.), 21 × 29.7 cm, German, €10

Artist Kunstmagazin is a quarterly arts journal, founded in 1989. This issue features a focus on Manfred Pernice.

MANFRED PERNICE - QUE–SAH

Published by Verlag für moderne Kunst, Vienna, 2008, 208 pp. (colour & b/w ill.), 25 × 30 cm, English/German, €45

A monograph with a comprehensive timeline, produced on the occasion of Manfred Pernice’s exhibition Que-Sah at The Neues Museum, Nuremberg, 25 April–6 July, 2008.

The exhibition title–Que–Sah–refers to one volume of the Brockhaus encyclopaedia, where alphabetical arrangement gives systematic order to the highly varied lexical contents. For Pernice, “the first entry (Quebec conferences) and the last (Saho, Ethiopian stock farmers), like all the other conceptual phenomena in-between, are potential areas of artistic exploration.”

Designed by Yvonne Quirmbach. *Please note this publication is secondhand and may have some traces of previous ownership. #manfredpernice taken in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @books__at
