📮The Correspondent, Virginia Evans

This one made me both smile & cry, and has been on my mind throughout the week since I finished it, so I would definitely recommend ☁️

Told through a series of letters and emails exchanged between Sybil and her friends, family & acquaintances, The Correspondent takes us on a reflective journey through some of the later years of Sybil’s life. We read Sybil’s experiences with grief & love, getting a glimpse into her past, but also her current struggles as she battles with something she has never fully let herself admit or discuss, all whilst she loses her sight. It is heartwarming in some ways and devastating in others. Something Evans did well throughout the novel was making you feel everything along with the all characters you are reading about, and it certainly left me emotional!

There’s so much more you could say about this one, so I’m looking forward to discussing it at book club next month. Always interesting to hear other people’s thoughts on a book you enjoyed 💭

🏹 i bought myself these special editions with every intention to re read the series before the sunrise on the reaping movie comes out… however i have been too busy reading throne of glass for the first time and these have been put aside for now

i definitely want to get to them soon though as i remember flying through when when i first read the series (which was probably about 10 years ago) & i need to finally read sunrise on the reaping before november!

hopping on the trend after everyone else has probably forgotten about it, but better late than never right? 💫

💭 do we have any favourites in common, or are our tastes totally opposite?

☁️ i adored every one of these and can’t recommend them enough

☁️ these books stayed on my mind long after i finished them

☁️ and i either didn’t enjoy these and have no plans to continue with the series, or they just don’t appeal to me at all! by @booksemreads

August wrap up of a girl who either reads a lot, or not at all ☁️

Despite ending up with a whole week of of work, I didn’t manage to read as much I had hoped in August! Glad to have finished (and enjoyed!) the books I did get to though

a book that surprised me ☁️

💭 have you read this one?

i bought this one a year or so ago, and really struggled to get into it. in february it was my book clubs chosen read so i picked it up again and whilst i wouldn’t consider it a favourite, i quite enjoyed it!

the book follows delphie who, upon her untimely death, finds herself in the afterlife. there, she meets the most gorgeous man she has ever seen - who promptly disappears, sent back to earth as he had been brought to the afterlife in error

convinced she has met the man for her, delphie negotiates her return to earth to find him. ten days to spark a connection between them, despite him having no memory of delphie, and delphie having no idea where to even begin looking…

mid year check in 🪐

💭 how are you getting on with your reading goal? (if you set one!)

i’m doing well with mine this year and have been reading a lot more that usual recently, hopefully i can keep that up! i’ve found a few new favourites (including the knight and the moth which i annoying forgot to include on the favourites slide😅) and started reading a bit more non fiction which has been really interesting

in the next half of the year, i’m hoping to tick some more books off of my tbr and finally read throne of glass 🗡️

💭 what book do you wish you could read again for the first time?

the invisible life of addie la rue is one of mine. this sat on my tbr shelf for 3 years before i finally picked it up, and once i’d read it i couldn’t believe i waited so long to. i absolutely loved it and definitely want to read it again at some point - it’s one book that definitely deserves the hype it got on booktok & booksta!
