I finally finished a book!!!!!! I absolutely adore Field Guide for the Formerly Villainous by Autumn K England. It is absolutely delightful and most unexpected. I didn’t expect this one to get me right in the feels but I’ve been going through so damn much lately and really should have expected to cry buckets.

If you’re looking for something cozy that very much covers real concerns in a respectfully not too heavy way than add this to your tbr immediately! It’s got all the cozy fantasy vibes and honestly I wouldn’t mind another book or several in this world.

About the story - When Oaklin Nettlewood accidentally joined an evil world-ending cult, mind control magic forced them to do unspeakable things. Years later, the realm’s heroes have finally saved the day, defeated the villain, and shattered the last remnants of the spell...leaving destruction in their wake. And so, with a spell-damaged memory and whole bushel of trauma, Oaklin escapes to a small farm on the edge of Mossley’s Rest and swears an oath: After all the things they were forced to do with their magic, they will never use it again. Ever.

The no-nonsense ghost granny who lives in Oaklin’s house has other ideas. As she coaxes Oaklin out of their shell and back into the world, they find companionship (a grumpy horse and a very good dog), friendship (a local bard and magical baker who should just kiss already), and tentative romance (a paladin-librarian who makes Oaklin’s heart come alive for the first time in ages.) Magic even seems possible again―though strictly for foraging magical mushrooms and protecting the farm from bugs.

Healing comes in gentle waves, and Oaklin doesn’t have to do it alone. So what does it mean when an inquisitor comes to town to hunt former cultists just as Oaklin begins to think that maybe, just maybe, they deserve a happy ending after all? by @bookstagramrepresent

Thank you @candlewickpress for the gifted copy of this beautiful book WE’RE HERE, WE’RE QUEER! A History of LGBTQ+ Activism

I added this to the Kid’s homeschool collection. The art is so beautiful! I love how each section is broken down by decade. We’re Here, We’re Queer serves as a great introduction into our amazing and vast history. It touches upon some major and iconic moments. This would make a great addition to any classroom and home library! Available October 6!

About the book - This illustrated history of LGBTQ+ activism brings to life stories of resistance, friendship, love, fear, division, unity, and astonishing perseverance in the face of discrimination and oppression. From the secret slang adopted by gay Londoners in the 1960s to decades of sit-ins and marches, from the Stonewall uprising to the dazzling history of drag, this is a wide-ranging and inclusive account of a multifaceted movement that continues to this day. Evocative prose puts readers deeply into key moments and showcases the words and personalities of figures from queer history, including Harvey Milk, Julian Hows, Carla Toney, Crystal LaBeija, We’wha, Vincent Jones, Marsha P. Johnson, Alan Turing, Sylvia Rivera, and many more. Masterful and joyful artwork by beloved author-illustrator David Roberts makes this a keepsake book for queer families and anyone who values the history of this struggle. David Roberts includes hundreds of portraits, giving faces AND voices to often overlooked heroes. He includes a personal introduction and fact-filled timelines; back matter includes a bibliography and an afterword from This Book Is Gay author Juno Dawson.

Thank you @jamiepacton and @beccapodos for a copy of HOMEWARD FOR A SPELL! I absolutely love Homegrown Magic and I can’t wait to read this one while drinking hot tea. I don’t know if I can bring myself to light that acorn candle. It’s too cute!

Sage has made her living as a ranger, moving constantly between adventuring parties, but she’s never had the chance to lead one. So when she’s offered the opportunity to hire a crew of her own in pursuit of a rare magical artifact, it seems a dream come true—until she learns that they’re headed into the most inhospitable part of the kingdom with winter looming. Still, it’s a way to finally put her name on the map . . . and how bad could it really be?

Araphi has always loved music, in defiance of her powerful family’s priorities. All she wants is one last occasion to perform before she marries a man she does not love for the good of the family. So when she sees a poster seeking a bard for a party, she eagerly sneaks away to audition, only to discover that the party in question is no festival but an adventuring party, led by a woman she’s been fascinated with since she first laid eyes on her. It’s an unexpected twist, but if she takes the job, she’ll still be back in time for her own wedding . . . and how bad could it really be?

What follows is a life-altering journey for them both, filled with danger and misfortune as their ragtag band of adventurers—most of whom have just met—must learn to work together to overcome the many obstacles before them, not least the explosive chemistry between the rugged party leader used to watching her own back and the pampered city-girl bard, who may be far out of her element but is beginning to feel at home for the very first time. #QueerFantasy #CozyBook #QueerBookRec #HomewardForASpell by @bookstagramrepresent

Thank you @pagestreetya for this Fairyland Survival Kit featuring THE BONE BRIDES! I am so dang excited to read this one!!!

About The Bone Brides - A grieving girl must rescue her changeling girlfriend from the fae queen in this whimsical fantasy that’s Guillermo del Toro meets Studio Ghibli.

Nola James can handle it. She can handle that her father is dead. She can handle that her friends, bored with her grief, left her behind. Nola James has to handle it because Lumi—the love of her life and a faery changeling—is in danger. Not only is Lumi’s human mother trying to kill her, but she’s being hunted by veiled monsters that want to return her to the fae. Hiding out in an abandoned cabin with only a skeleton-rabbit for company is hard, but Nola can handle it. And she does.

Until Lumi is abducted.

In order to save her, Nola must enter the faery realm: a boggy world in which eyeless horses parade as brides, ghost-bees produce transformative honey, and skeletons dance in skin-colored cloaks. Aided by a witch-girl with uncertain motives, Nola uncovers the realm’s terrifying power over changelings. If Nola can’t outplay an abyssal faery queen and find the courage to let the world see her own pain, Lumi will be trapped—not only in faeryland but in a skin that’s not her own. #TheBoneBrides #PageStreetYa #SapphicBooks #SapphicSeptember by @bookstagramrepresent

I read this last month and absolutely LOVE IT. A (Dead) Thing Like Me wasn’t at all what I expected. This story is beautifully haunting and deals with themes of grief, loss, and friendship while not being overly heavy. Darkly funny and equally heartfelt, definitely pick this up for your autumnal tbr’s! And yes it’s queer!

Summary - One hot dog with banana peppers. That’s all Hot Dog wants. An invisible teenage ghost, she haunts a food cart outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Until one night, she’s accidentally summoned via Ouija board to a house party in Florida . . . where finally finally finally, people can see her.

All the party guests scatter, except for Logan: the cool artist girl who doesn’t just see Hot Dog, she actually wants to talk to her. Logan, who isn’t scared of Hot Dog’s stitched mouth or chattering dress. Logan, who’s grieving her own dead BFF—and called Hot Dog by mistake. Hot Dog wants to prove it’s not a mistake.

She can be Logan’s new best friend. She can go to Logan’s Halloween party. She can eat snacks, have sleepovers, and hang out. She can definitely smile without scaring people. Exactly like a real, human girl.

There’s one problem: Hog Dog’s not a real, living human girl, and something in Logan’s sprawling house knows it. It scratches like rats in the walls. It opens a secret door in Logan’s attic. It wants to drag Hot Dog into the nothingness where dead things go. And unless Hot Dog can confront the dark truth of how she died, it will unmake Logan too.

A recent read that I may have reread a few times already and maybe just carry it around in my bag with me because it’s comforting 🥺 Add this immediately to your tbr’s especially if you’re looking for something magical during the ‘ber months!

Hollow Magic is a beautiful queer graphic novel about found family, magic and the power of deciding for yourself who you truly are.

Summary- Raised in the world of fey, seventeen-year-old Rosefinch has the ability to lift curses with nothing but a twist of her fingers. But when a witch’s magic is left long enough in the fey realm, it becomes supercharged, painful to use, and potentially even dangerous.

Following a rumor that the village of Harp is home to a witch who might be able to help control her magic, Rosefinch discovers an ancient ruined castle with the inhabitants long gone; the only remaining soul a knight cursed to stand a frozen guard at the entrance. The magic she uses to free them melts more than just the ice, and soon, Rosefinch is falling for this charming stranger. But Thierry has secrets of their own, as do other members of the Harp family still hidden within the castle walls. The Harp witch’s wicked magic ripped this family apart for a reason, and Rosefinch must find a way to stop the curse or she’ll lose Thierry—and the chance to learn the truth about her magic—forever.

With mesmerizing art and a sweeping queer romance, this spellbinding fairy tale shows the power of found family and love where we least expect it. by @bookstagramrepresent

Currently reading The Feywild Job by CL Polk. I keep getting interrupted because life but I am absolutely living for this queer DND shenanigans!!! I already know I’m going to need more. I need all the magical fantasy DND adjacent books. Please drop your recs below!

Add this your tbr’s!!! - Saeldian has sworn never to fall in love. That oath isn’t just a personal promise, but rather a magical pact, granting them powerful abilities. The only catch? They must never give their heart away—a deal that Saeldian is perfectly content with. They’ve seen firsthand how messy love can get.

Saeldian prefers their no-strings-attached life as a con artist, pulling off heists and leaving a trail of broken hearts behind them. But when a grift goes horribly wrong, they catch the eye of a mysterious patron with a job offer they can’t refuse.

The mission? Steal a gem called “The Kiss of Enduring Love” and return it to the Feywild. Simple enough, until Saeldian discovers their ex-partner, Kell—a charming bard—is part of the team.

The last time Saeldian saw Kell, things hardly ended on good terms. A kiss became a betrayal, leaving Kell hurt and confused for almost a decade. But Kell can’t just walk away—not when this job might finally be his ticket back to the Feywild.

Forced to work together again, their adventure takes them from high-society parties to Feywild couple’s therapy. But as Saeldian and Kell rekindle their chemistry, they realize the gem is much more than a fey bauble, and their simple heist has summoned powerful enemies.

I have been so busy with the kid and being sick that I haven’t had time for new photos here but now that the weather is slowly slowly cooling off (yes I might be delusional but it’s not over 100 every day anymore so that counts okay) I’m hoping to catch up on sharing what I’ve been reading and not where I’ve been passing out. Although I’ve managed to both read and pass out at the library 😅

What are y’all reading for sapphic September? I’ve been reading mostly sapphic books ALL YEAR as it is. I don’t know how that happened but I’m not mad about it.

As always please check out @jupiterrisingshop for some very nerdy very awesome tees, sweaters and mugs. Every post share, comment, and interaction goes a long way!!!
