POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Welcome to the ‘Ber months! It is still so dang hot here in the south. I’ve been trying to take time for myself every evening to do something (or nothing as the case may be) to find my way into an autumnal mood. I’ve been rereading so many of my faves lately. Every evening it rains and it’s honestly the perfect atmosphere to wear my favorite sweater and lost myself in a good book. I just wish it was cooler. I desperately need a break from the heat and humidity.

What are your favorite autumnal books? Do you have any seasonal rereads? I’ve been looking for more lgbtq and especially trans stories. Every thing in the world feels so…. Unbelievably horrible. I am trying to find any bit of queer joy to keep me going.

The Reader Tarot sweater is available on my Bonfire shop! It’s the absolute perfect time to order! Don’t forget to tag me in your photos or reels, it honestly makes my whole damn week every time y’all do.

A book rec for you lovely folks - The @changelingsanthology is one of my fave reads!!

Nothing about us without us - This book focuses on autistic trans masc and non-binary people telling our own stories. It aims to explore autistic trans joy and challenges.

A young adult anthology of stories about trans autistic characters by trans autistic authors. These last few years have been difficult for the transgender community. This has included frequent attacks on autistic trans people, claiming we can’t possibly understand who we are or what we want. This book focuses on autistic trans masc and non-binary people telling our own stories. It aims to explore autistic trans joy and challenges and to show all the autistic trans people out there that they are not alone.

Do you have a favorite anthology?

Don’t forget to place your orders in my Bonfire shop for tees, sweaters and hoodies before August 10! Use the code SUMMER at checkout to save 10%. Don’t forget to tag me in your posts and reels!

"If there's one God you don't want to get steamed up
It's Hades, 'cause he had an evil plan
He ran the Underworld
But thought the dead were dull and uncouth

He was as mean as he was ruthless
And that's the Gospel truth
He had a plan to shake things up
And that's the Gospel truth."

Another favorite villain of mine is Hades. The Disney version and I've quickly learned that I'll read anything that is a Hades and Persephone retelling.

I have to say, not only do I LOVE these but I had to include last year's Hades inspired nails because the GROWTH and confidence in his designs and artwork is mind blowing! I loved those then and seeing the ones I have today are the best example of how far we've come in the fun in designs! He jokes that I'm the best billboard in town for his work and I'll never stop showing them off to anyone that wants to see them 😍

Just one of the amazing designs from one of my dear friends @bookstagramrepresent 🖤🖤 you have to check out their Bonfire shop (the link is in their bio!). I also have their reader tarot card design coming 😍

Here's just a small stack of some trans authors you need to check out! I thought I for sure had The Deep by Rivers Solomon to include, but it's sadly on my Kindle instead. So shoutout to that incredible fantasy story (quick little read at just under 200 pages)

Some great horror books are in this stack and just in time for the October TBR! If you want some extreme horror, I highly recommend picking up anything from Judith Sonnet. The book pictured is less extreme and a collection of more quiet horror.

Also - swipe all the way through to see my photo assistant for the day 🐶

last, current, next ft. my beautiful new hoodie from @bookstagramrepresent ‘s bonfire shop ❤️‍🔥 go get yourself one!! link in their bio ✨
.
last: i recently finished THE COIN, a debut by Palestinian journalist & writer Yasmin Zaher. such a strange & winding book, I completely agree with @booksonmysidetable ‘s review that you should read if you want an MC with repressed anxieties, insecurities, & thoughts. our MC is selfish & often very rude (i truly did not like her), yet there’s much to think on trauma & mental health. a very uncomfy read, but i think sometimes we need books to make us feel this way. please continue to support & read Palestinian writers!!
.
current: JAPA AND OTHER STORIES by Iheoma Nwachuwu, just released at the beginning of the month, features short stories about young Nigerian immigrants who strive to anchor themselves into a new home. the characters in this are “immigrants who have no plans to return to their home country - for voluntary reasons - although they retain a strong connection to home.” literally just started, so no thoughts yet!
.
next: THE GODS BELOW by andrea stewart - i actually completely forgot this book just came out! the bone shard books have a very special place in my heart, as i was reading them before & after (& even a few pages during labor!) i had hiro. ah i don’t miss those sleepless nights, but stewart’s books were always there for me 🥲 can’t wait to dig into her next high fantasy series!

in honor of my new book mug (isn’t she beautiful!), i am matching all FOUR nyt bestselling trans books of 2024 with a fall beverage

Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender is a moody dark academia story full of magic, and you’re going to want several Iced Coffees (it’s SUPER queer), because this book begs you to read it on little to no sleep while it drags you through the fog on a WILD fucking ride

Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa is a short and cozy Pride and Prejudice retelling that’ll pair perfectly with a cup of tea and a warm blanket on a rainy fall day—if you enjoyed the 2005 version, you will undoubtedly enjoy this spin on the classic

Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas is an actual hot chocolate and a hug of a book for anybody worried about the us elections, because there IS a better world waiting for us if we’re brave enough to overthrow the familiar for something that’s actually fucking GOOD (for increased reading pleasure, do be sure to read The Sunbearer Trials first)

Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White is on my fall tbr and i am SO excited to read it because i KNOW i can depend on White to deliver a nasty, horrific, story that WILL traumatize the bejeezus out of me and make me go through at LEAST six cups of warmed spiced cider, and really what more can i ask for this halloween season?

get yourself your own ADORABLE bookish mug in @bookstagramrepresent bonfire shop!

(i can be both aware that the nyt bestseller list is a scam AND thrilled that FOUR books by and about trans mc’s made the young adult list this year)

image description: white mug with a ghost reading a book and the words “Just One More Chapter” circling it set on a stack of the four books mentioned above, three books spine out one pages out, inside a grey brick chimney, a pewter urn visible off to one side. end description.

read MORE trans books, ya dig??

every day of the year is a great day to pick up a book capable of expanding your worldview, teaching you about yourself, and confronting your prejudices.

whipping girl by julia serano was a book like that for me. this book was originally published in 2007 so while some things have changed, so many things are the same.

“it is downright sexist to reduce any woman (trans or otherwise) down to her mere body parts or require her to live up to certain societally dictated ideals regarding appearance.”

this book is highly quotable and so much felt immediately relevant to current discourse. this is a book i know i’ll refer to again.

AND if you love my beautiful “read trans books” hoodie, you have another chance to snag one for a limited time from @bookstagramrepresent 🩵🤍🩷
