Burnt Paper Sky by @gillymacmillan

Burnt Paper Sky was an absolutely brilliant read. I felt completely engrossed in this story and found myself reading way past my bedtime because I just couldn’t put it down.

What really stood out to me was how well Gilly Macmillan portrayed the trauma experienced by Ben’s mum. It felt incredibly realistic, and rather than simply telling us how the events affected her, I felt like I could genuinely understand the weight of what she was going through. I also particularly enjoyed the scenes involving the therapist.

Some of the Rachel chapters were slower, as they focused more heavily on the emotional aftermath and how the events affected the family, but I actually think those chapters added a lot to the story and helped build Rachel’s character. I initially found both Rachel and Jim difficult to warm to, but as the story progressed I became really fond of Rachel and felt very invested in her.

I did work out the big reveal at the same moment Rachel did, but that honestly didn’t take away from my enjoyment. The investigation itself completely sucked me in, and I loved feeling like I was right there alongside it all, trying to piece everything together.

A gripping, incredibly well-written story with a realistic portrayal of trauma, complicated characters and an investigation that completely drew me in. A definite 5⭐ read for me.

Mum of Two by Lauren Goodger.

Firstly I am not going to start by rating this book as this book centres around a woman’s tragic loss of her child. That does not require a rating.

This autobiography is raw, emotional and eye opening. I’ve watched Towie from the beginning (missing out on a few episodes when the drama was just too much) and always been a fan of Lauren. This book made me such a bigger fan of hers. This woman has experienced heartache, heartbreak and loss that no woman should have to suffer. I sincerely hope she gets her happy ending thar she deserves.

I read this book knowing what had happened to Lauren but to hear her say it in her own words and hear the emotion from the pages made it feel a little more distressing. The anxiety and toll things have had on her mental health and just how she describes the experience. After reading this book, I will view Lauren in a different light. A much more stronger woman than I’ve realised

The book itself is quite short and quite easy to read except for the heartbreaking chapters. I would recommend this book to any towie fans, but anyone who has experienced pregnancy issues, miscarriage, baby loss should approach with caution

HIDE AND SEEK — by @chriscarterbooksofficial

Okay… THIS BOOK. 😮‍💨

I genuinely didn’t know where this was going, and then about halfway through it took a TURN… and I was absolutely HERE FOR IT. 👏🏻

The premise was so clever, so dark and so completely different from anything I’ve read from Chris Carter before. And honestly? I NEED MORE OF THIS. As much as I missed Hunter!

I never guessed the ending. I was completely blindsided, which is exactly what I want from a thriller.

The writing was addictive. The kind where you keep telling yourself “just one more chapter” and suddenly you’re still reading hours later.

I read this in two sittings and was literally messaging people as I was reading because I needed to talk about what was happening.

Dark. Twisted. Clever. Completely unpredictable.

Chris Carter, please give us more books like this.

If you’re looking for a thriller that will keep you guessing and completely pull you in, READ THIS.

Highly recommend.

I Let You Go by @claremackwrites

I genuinely don’t know how to talk about this book without spoiling it… so I’ll just say this: if you think you’ve got it all figured out, keep reading.

Part two completely throws the story into a whole other dimension. I honestly wasn’t expecting it, and the twist surrounding Jacob completely shocked me.

It had me hooked from beginning to end, and I flew through the second half because I just had to know how it was all going to end. Tense, emotional and incredibly clever.

An easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me.

The Holiday Swap is one of those thrillers that slowly tightens its grip and refuses to let go. What begins as the perfect escape quickly descends into something far more sinister, with an atmosphere full of unease that had me racing through the pages.

Pete was a standout character. Every scene with him left me feeling on edge, never knowing what he was capable of or what his next move would be. He brought an unpredictable darkness to the story that made the tension even more intense.

Packed with suspicion, secrets, and twists that kept me second-guessing everyone, this was a gripping psychological thriller that had me hooked until the very end.

Off Campus by @ellekennedyauthor

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can completely see why this series is so loved. Every book had its own personality, and I never got bored because each couple brought something different to the table. I loved that we got to stay with the same friendship group throughout the series—it made it feel like you were part of their world.

The banter between the hockey boys was one of the highlights for me, and I loved seeing previous couples pop up in the later books. The romance, humour and emotional moments were all balanced really well, with enough spice to keep things interesting without taking over the story.

Dean and Allie were definitely my favourites. Dean’s character development was so much better than I expected, and together they just had the perfect mix of chemistry, humour and heart.

Overall, this was such an easy, addictive series to binge, and I’m already a little sad it’s over. I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, emotional sports romance with fantastic friendships and memorable characters.

My Sisters Secret by @janecorry

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed My Sister’s Secret by Jane Corry. The complicated love-hate relationship between the sisters was definitely one of my favourite parts of the book — it felt messy, realistic and showed how complicated family relationships can be.

I loved how the secrets slowly unfolded and kept me wanting to know what was really going on. The characters were flawed but believable, and the story had a great mix of emotion, tension and twists.

A really enjoyable domestic thriller about family, loyalty and the things people keep hidden. Definitely worth a read!

I really enjoyed A Good Enough Mother by Bev Thomas.

From the beginning, it was clear that Ruth was hiding a lot of secrets. There was a strong sense that something had happened behind closed doors that the reader wasn’t yet aware of, and I really enjoyed the suspense of slowly uncovering the truth.

I found myself warming to Ruth as the story progressed. She was clearly a caring and devoted mother, but there was always the feeling that something darker was hidden beneath the surface, which kept me wanting to know more.

I particularly enjoyed the therapist setting and the psychological element of the story. I had a feeling something wasn’t quite right with Dan, but I couldn’t work out exactly what it was, which kept me engaged throughout.

My only criticism would be that I would have liked to have learnt more about Dan and seen more of the courtroom drama, as I felt that side of the story could have been explored further. I also felt the ending was slightly rushed.

Overall, I really enjoyed this psychological thriller and would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys books about secrets, motherhood, and the things people hide behind closed doors.

Another fabulous evening with @hullnoir, @jebookshull and @humphrey75

This time we heard from the very talented @sarah_hilary999 who spoke about her latest book, The Drowning Place, and the background to how the book came together. It absolutely fascinates me hearing how the authors start with a literal blank page and produce these novels that live rent free in my head.
Sarah spoken so eloquently and I could have listened to her all day long.

Of course I had to purchase a book from the fabulous, Julie, albeit it was one that Sarah didn’t really touch upon. But that cover 😍😍

The one thing I will always be grateful for bookstagram for is the friends I’ve made along the way. In the middle of the book chats, we do have real life talk. I was speaking to @theresabookmark4that about how I was feeling recently and in Kate’s latest order, she packed a surprise for me that meant the world to me. Kate knew I was feeling a bit worried about some upcoming exams and went the extra mile and made me a bookmark. The bookmark is now being out to use in my study books to show me I can do it. Thank you Kate. This meant so so much to me xxx

What a series by @marionblackwood

I’m so sad the journey is over.

This series follows Selena, who is a fae fish gutter. She is desperate to get her freedom back and fight for her people, she enters the Atonement Trials. Only three people can win!!
Within the trials she meets Draven who is my new book boyfriend. Draven does everything in his power to make Selena lose the trials. Book 1 ends on such a cliffhanger! I immediately had to pick up book 2.
Book 2,3,4 and 5 all blurs into the same book as I just read them one after each other. Upon winning the Atonement Trials, Selena is faced with a whole new set of problems and her and her friends (and enemies) must fight for their freedom and reclaim their world back

This book series was so addictive, easy reading and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the way some relationships developed and the banter with the two main characters. Orion is up there with my favourite characters and I’m so pleased that he got the ending he needed in more ways than one.
This book series has everything and it is highly recommended from me. It’s on kindle unlimited and @theworksstores have a beautiful spredge copy of the first one!

This week I attended @hullnoir and got to meet the amazing @harriet_tyce!
This was a free event at the public library and me and @humphrey75 had the best time!

Harriet spoke about her latest novel, Witch Trial, which is out now and highly recommended. It was so interesting to hear what preparation goes into writing a book, the timescales, the process and seeing that finished product. Edinburgh has been on the bucket list for some time and the urge to go is even more intense now!

Harriet was so friendly, intelligent, real and funny.

@jebookshull also attends the events has books from the authors backlist for you to purchase.

Of course I left with a signed copy of Witch Trial and I may have purchase a copy of Blood Orange (one of my all time favourite books that I can’t rave about enough)

Looking forward to the next event!
