Got an early morning flight from Sydney airport? @moxysydneyairport may be the solution! When we flew out to Lord Howe Island last week, we stayed here the night before which was super handy. Really fun vibe at the hotel with a pumping bar and restaurant but lovely quiet rooms. They also have parking if you want to keep your car there for a few days which we did on this occasion. Definitely beats getting a bus at ridiculous hours in the middle of the night from Canberra to make a morning flight. Also, excellent schnitties! I’ll definitely be back! taken in Sydney Airport by @booming_on

When I travelled through China, I was in awe of the spectacular landscapes, (so spectacular it appeared some could have been digitally enhanced somehow in real life) but equally amazing is the infrastructure built to make them accessible to the masses. Thrilled to see my piece make the cover story of @sundaystartimesnz / @nzstuff just recently. Thanks to @wendywutoursaustralia for showing me some off-the-charts natural wonders of China. by @booming_on

Last week we (finally) made it over to Lord Howe Island, to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. More on the island later. Here’s a bit of time travel way back then and to some photos 10 years ago when our daughters took us out for a beautiful lunch and surprise photo shoot to commemorate 30 years. He’s definitely a keeper, and even now, we’re both still quite smitten.💕🥂 by @booming_on

Bit late to this one. Kangaroo Island – just a hop across on the ferry from the mainland not too far from Adelaide, but then you’re in another world. Got to explore here recently with @aatkings on a four-day coach tour for @austtraveller . What a great way to see the highlights of the island with a thoroughly charming and knowledgeable guide and professional driver, especially as there’s no public transport. Some lovely walks and explorations, and unsurprisingly – lots of kangaroos! Great to see the island proving so resilient after the devastating fires there a few years back. Nature fighting back with more gusto and speed than was expected. Story out in the latest Australian Traveller mag. by @booming_on

A moment to cherish: three generations skiing together at Perisher, ticking off a big bucket list item for Dude who has for years dreamed of skiing with his grandkids. Now we just have to get the other three up on skis as well. One to mark down in time. We might have to take another with the mother behind the video visible. Such is Mum life.

Quick overnighter in Melbourne staying in the old world charm of @hotel_windsor in the city. It’s not far to walk to Lucy Lui’s for a delicious quick dinner and perfectly placed to catch a show at the Princess Theatre. Thrilled to catch one of the earliest shows of Its a Beautiful Noise which I thoroughly enjoyed. Great music and a killer band pumping out the beats. Praise be to Ticketek’s official marketplace to enable scooping up some last-minute tickets, VIP to boot. I love being special! And found two French patisseries with excellent pastries. When you’re heading out for dinner but can’t decide exactly what you feel like eating, the latest offering from the Chairman Group stable in Canberra - casual diner World eatery - may be the answer. It’s part of the new dining precinct at East Traders Hall. Some really innovative and delicious fare crossing culinary borders. My review just out in the latest edition of.Australian Traveller magazine. Their take on a Waldorf salad with candied walnuts a stand out. taken in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory by @booming_on

Confession: I can get hopelessly lost absolutely anywhere, even in my hometown or even when I’ve only turned one single, solitary corner. I’m also utterly useless with maps, even when I turn it up the right way. Not an ideal trait when you do a lot of travelling. Luckily I usually travel with those who excel at these things (praise be, beloved husband) which generally keeps me out of strife. The other trick I have up my sleeve is travelling with small, organised trips, like the fabulous one I did a while back with @IntrepidTravel to Andalusia in Spain, which I must say is very high on my list of favourite destinations. The food scene there is really my jam with sangria an added bonus. Pleased to see my story on how I was lost and then found in Andalusia printed recently in @InternationalTraveller. What a fabulous way to travel! It’s in newsagents now, along with lots of other great travel tales. Long live tour guides with expertise and great navigational skills!

It may be a little chilly in Dunedin in winter (did I just read about some dare-devil skiing down the city’s steepest street freshly dusted with snow???) but a scenic bike ride around Otago Harbour is a great way to warm up and take in the views, and probably much safer. A few weeks ago I did just that. Clearly the bike ride and not the street skiing. What a wonderful way to spend a day. Grabbed some electric bikes from @electrify.nz in town to make the ride to Port Chalmers and back a breeze, stopped to read all the cultural signs along the way, checked out Port Chalmers, hopped across the harbour to the village of Portobello on a ferry with @porttoportcruises, found some artworks in the bush, took in a delicious lunch at @augustinesofportobello (look out for their fantastic array of farm-grown and house-made preserves and pickles too) and got back (just) by four, flying along the water’s edge with a bit of extra power from the bikes helping to keep our speed up. It’s a whole day of activities and a great way to get to know the place. Highly recommend. Great ride with @dunedinnz!

Earlier this month I zipped across the ditch for a few days in Dunedin to join in the local celebrations of Matariki, the Maori New Year. It was wonderful to see how this celebration, which is a time for remembrance and renewal and which has been a public holiday for the last few years, has really been embraced by the broader New Zealand community. Some of the highlights included a dawn Matariki celebration of remembering loved ones and setting intentions, a community festival with music and finished with a drone show, a cultural coastal walk, a carving workshop, and a night train ride to view the stars of the Matariki constellation, which sadly stayed pretty well hidden that night. It really felt like a beautiful recognition and coming together of cultures. Here’s some snippets of the visit to the South Island’s city of Dunedin that has much to offer. With thanks to @dunedinnz and the Fable Hotel for putting me up in their beautiful historic hotel. taken in Dunedin, New Zealand by @booming_on

A visit to Milan earlier in the year was a fabulous way to end our European jaunt, full of treasures including ones we had heard about and some which were joyful discoveries. Thrilled to see my selection of things not to miss in Milan in today’s @escape.com.au including a number of different ways to discover the city - by foot, bike, Fiat 500, via your taste buds or with new friends. I put in some extra pics as well, just because I can. taken in Milan,Italy by @booming_on
