Borgo brings wood-fired Italian comfort to NoMad.

📍Borgo - NoMad

@borgonyc 📸

THE VERDICT
Borgo is one of those NYC Italian restaurants not everyone knows about, but should. The open kitchen and split dining rooms feel inviting from the moment you enter and the wood stacks and fireplace settle you in. Enthusiastic, informed staff and a rotating menu keep things interesting, even for regulars. Since late 2024, Borgo has been serving the neighborhood with dishes that taste fresh, flavorful, and are well thought out. And the combination of two intimate rooms and a quaint outdoor space creates a meal that feels nostalgic, even if it's your first time.

THE VIBE
A charming, cozy space with a look-through hearth (fireplace) that feels like home

THE ORDER
The menu changes monthly - one of the things that makes Borgo special. But you can expect a range of salads, pastas, and proteins to choose from regardless.
Recent favorites: Focaccia Borgo, Bluefin Tuna Crudo, Ricotta Ravioli, Linguine with Lobster, Wood-Oven Chicken Cacciatore

To drink: Start with one of their fantastic cocktails such as the Catchfraise or go for a Negroni. Then, move to wine by the glass - some kind of chilled if it's Summer, red if it's not.

THE VALUE
The menu skews pricey, but the ingredients used and exceptional cooking provide value
Salads in the $20s, Pastas $30s, Proteins $40s, Cocktails $20

THE STRATEGY
Reservations via Resy, 21 days in advance at 10am - prime dinner times can be hard to get
Spots open up around 9pm and the room feels even quieter, warmer, and more intimate then
Lunch reservations are easier, and walk-ins are common
Sit at the bar if you can, especially for lunch
Consult your waiter on the current month's strongest menu items
Get cocktails before (or after) at Obvio which is five minutes away, then head straight to wine at Borgo

The James Beard Awards 2026 drinks winners just made the bar the main character.

For years, the James Beard Awards were treated as America’s biggest night for chefs. This year, the clearest signal was in the glass.

These are the beverage winners shaping where dining is headed next:

Kato, Los Angeles
Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program

Scotch Lodge, Portland
Outstanding Bar

Loma, Providence
Best New Bar

Lee Campbell, Borgo, New York
Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service

Kevin Diedrich, Pacific Cocktail Haven, San Francisco
Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service

From alcohol-free pairings at Kato to cocktail culture in San Francisco, Portland, Providence, New York, and Los Angeles, this year’s winners prove drinks are no longer the supporting act.

They are driving reservations, shaping memories, and changing how we judge a great night out.

Save this list before your next bar trip, and read the full article on why the James Beard Awards are no longer just about food in 2026.
