"Break!!!" The last few months have been much busier than usual. I've had the chance to meet some wonderful people in this time who I've connected with strongly. There are finally some very concrete things in the pipeline regarding my photography practice, so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself properly as a photographer (see last slide). I wrote the bio for the opening of @monique_belier_photography beautiful exhibition two weeks ago. Thank you again for the opportunity. 🙏🏻 I'm slowly learning to step out of my comfort zone (I mean, a bio in the third person?! 🙈) and so far it has been met with a lot of support and kindness for which I'm extremely grateful. Thank you to you all. ❤️ There are genuinely too many people to mention, that's how lucky I am, I should remember that. I look forward to the second half of the year and sharing more of my work. 💥☀️NEW Book "Oh to apricate!"☀️💥 Available for pre-order now. I'm very happy to celebrate the summer solstice by announcing that my first self-published book is available for pre-order. ❔What's it about?❔ Like many people, I struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder. You know every winter is going to be a battle. And every winter you tell yourself you've learned from the last one and will deal with it better. Then the months go by, and despite your best effort, you feel the weight of the darkness. Ultimately, as some guidelines I once came across on the web said, one must "see the light". It's the whole crux of the problem really. And sometimes there's only one way: do like migrating birds and head south in hope of sunnier days. That's what I did in February 2024, heading to Athens for the first time. All I wanted was to disconnect, find some sun and walk around a new city with camera in hand. There was no project in mind then. I was basking under a cloudless sky in a relaxed state of mind, making photos for the pleasure of it. It felt wonderful. This project is an ode to those days, as well as a reminder that sometimes it's OK to take the most obvious and easiest route to solve an issue, especially when it's linked to one's well-being. °42 photos by Boris Hamilton °Text by Boris Hamilton °Size: 19x13 cms °Soft-cover (200g/m) with flaps + a gold endpaper °HP Indigo digital colour printing by @buroform.print °Hand-stitched by Boris Hamilton °Edition of 50, numbered and signed °Comes with a postcard with a text on the back Price is 27 euros + shipping from Belgium. !Book announcement! In late 2022 Matthew Young suggested I photograph the Linn Botanic Gardens, which he was restoring after they had been left to the elements for numerous years. Following a first brief visit in February 2023, we decided I would return every season to document the changes in the gardens. I made trips in April, August and October of that same year, as well as a quick one-day visit in January 2024 to get some more winter shots. The images in the book are from all four seasons and purposefully jumbled and sequenced so as to mimic the passing of a day rather than the passing of seasons. My aim is for the viewer to get a feeling and sense of the gardens rather than a clear understanding of its topography or the fauna on display. It's an invitation for the reader to visit and explore the location with their own eyes and hopefully lose themselves in the space. Day 6 - Sunday March 15, 2026 - part 2 Wat Arun plans cancelled, we headed to Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, home to a giant statue of a sitting Buddha. We made our way from Wat Arun to Itsaraphap MRT station via residential streets (slide 1) and rode the subway for a couple of stops, exiting at Bang Phai. From there it was a 15 mins walk to the temple grounds through more small lanes (slides 2, 3). The vibe felt like we were in a self-contained village and although this Wat is not in your usual "top 5 Wats of Bangkok to visit", there were a few tourists walking there and back. The temple grounds were huge, but not particularly charming. The statue of Buddha towered above everything, clearly the tallest monument in the area. I was happy to show Aurelija the silly side of Buddhism, the one, just like any organised religion, needs to shout out loud that it's present and not to be forgotten. Devotion is a weird trait. Aware that we were three days from leaving Thailand, we mustered the strength to slowly meander through little streets on our way to the Talat Phlu BTS station. Talat Phlu neighbourhood was interesting (slides 4-10) and overall, I really enjoyed spending so much time on the other side of the river. There's more of a village vibe, areas divided by the main roads and wider canals. One could say it's less gentrified, but essentially the main difference is there are less businesses and less cars. If you have time to spare in Bangkok, I urge you to just head here and get lost in the small streets. You'll see another side to Bangkok. That Sunday was incredibly rich in experiences. I didn't keep a diary at the time, so I used my photos, maps and my memory to retrace our steps as accurately as possible. In this way, I feel I have experienced that day anew. I am amazed I still have such clear memories of mundane moments. Would I have been able to do this without photos? No. I am fully aware that nearly all the places we walk to or from are not represented in any of my images because they're not the things I see, they're the things I'm told to see. But even the seemingly mundane things I photograph help me remember. Arguably better even. They're the places, the by @borishamilton

Day 6 - Sunday March 15, 2026 - part 1 After a day of less walking, Sunday turned out to be an epic day of walking, and in my case, photo taking. So much so that I'll have to split this day over two posts here. We started by taking the MRT to Wongwian Wai, on the west bank of Bangkok. The plan was to head to Wat Arun, one of Bangkok's more famous wats which sits on the bank of the Chao Phraya river. We first walked through the small lanes in the area towards Charoen Rat Village (slide 1) before heading back towards Wongwian Wai roundabout. We had fantastic ice coffees from a small place called Saturday Bird. After that we let our instincts slowly guide us towards Chao Phraya river, taking smaller streets and occasionally walking along small khlongs through the neighbourhoods of Hiranruchi and Kudi Chin (slides 2-8). The area felt like a maze, many of the streets too small for cars. We had our lunch break at a modest place called Thong Chicken Rice and it was delicious and the price laughable. To this day I regret not getting the extra large portion.     [One of my favorite images of the trip]. [another favorite image of the trip - this was a good day] We continued our way before hitting a dead end after walking along a khlong. Having just turned back on our way, a kind man opened a door and let us walk through his workshop to get to the soi on the other side. It was getting very hot. The beads of sweat on our foreheads possibly prompted the man to recommend we find some shade and a cold drink at the nearby Baan Kudichin Museum. This free museum located in an old house and dedicated to the 500 year-old Portuguese legacy in Bangkok was a nice surprise. After the visit we checked out the nearby Santa Cruz church before walking along a pedestrian walkway along the river. This brought us past Baan Windsor, a historic, wooden residence of the late 19th century built by a member of Bangkok's elite, and then to Kian An Keng Shrine, a beautiful old Hokkein temple and of importance to the local Chinese community. After a short visit, we continued our way walking through the large Wat Kalayanamit temple grounds. We didn't venture into the temple itself but the by @borishamilton
Day 5 - Saturday March 14, 2026 We woke up late, feeling tired, so we decided to take it a bit easier for a day.  First stop was Fortune Mall to see if anyone in this other outdated mall could possibly fix my camera. No luck. From there we moved to the much more modern mall, Central Rama IX, on the other side of the street. We got a very good coffee from a recently started Thai roaster and then ate in the food court there.  After that we headed to Lumphini Park (slide 1), Bangkok's answer to NYC's central park. Except it's tiny. Aurelija got to see some more monitor lizards as well as some massive event for the Netflix series One Piece. Despite the heat, it drew quite a crowd. Tired of the heat, we seeked some more air-con and entered Dusit Central Park, another shopping mall. There was an event there too, on the ground floor, with some male pop singer. A crowd made of 90% teen girls and young women were in attendance. We escaped to higher floors, had some Thai iced milk tea, and ventured out to the promenade at the top of the building with views overlooking Lumphini park. I recommend it even if very commercial. The temperatures and humidity more bearable, we walked through Patpong night market as they were setting up their stalls (this is the original red light district, the one US army vets would go to during their R&R stints during the Vietnam war) before heading (slide 2 and 3) to the overpass around Chong Nonsi BTS station (slides 4-7). There's even a kind of park up there (slide 6), another testament to BKK's attempt at making the city a bit greener. There's a long, long way to go though. As the sun was setting we called it a day, headed back "home" where we somehow struggled to find a decent food option. We ended up having ramen in a place that never closes and where you are served from behind a sliding door. I think it's traditional in Japan. Food was actually fine. We crashed early... except I got up in the middle of the night to watch Arsenal beat Everton 2-0, a game that ended up being a highlight of the season. I'll always remember being in silent jubilation as I watched Dowman, aged 16, score his first PL goal to seal the game.   Developed by by @borishamilton
Day 4 - Friday March 13, 2026 Although we were happy in our hotel in Saphan Kwai, by the time we had our new departure date, we could only extend our stay there by a couple of nights. So needing to find a new place, we booked a room in a hotel even further north, near Ratchayothin BTS. Back when I lived here, the BTS only went to Chatuchak, three stops south. By going north we got more for our money and were also more immersed in "Thai" Bangkok. This day was hence a moving day where we would have to wait until early afternoon to check-into the new place. (doing the multiple captions thing again) Thus I decided we could just kill the morning hours by walking around my old neighbourhood. We ventured around the tiny sois between Bang Sue and Pradiphat road, hitting the odd dead-end and having to turn back. It's a poorer area and one that developers surely have their eyes on. Some of the empty land has already seen the rise of modern offices. NB: this is one of my favorite shots of the trip. As I've been posting a stupid amount of photos, I'll tie it all up at the end with a selection of the ones I am most happy with. After lunch and a smooth check-in, we got the MRT (other subway) and headed across the Chao Phraya river before getting off at Bang Yi Khan (this is the view from the mrt station). From there we walked through Bang Yi Khan neighbourhood until eventually reaching Rama XIII bridge (which you can see here in the distance). It gets very lively under the bridge after sunset, but we were a bit early. There was some street food available, some skaters doing their thing and a dance class taking place. Some children were fishing and others swimming in the river. NB: the following shots were taken with my half-frame camera and some Kodak 400 film. Unfortunately most of the photos from Thailand taken on this roll didn't come out because of a combination of bad luck and my carelessness. This is why there are heavy light leaks. From Rama XIII we took one of the last river taxis of the day down to Rajinee, just as the sun was setting behind Wat Arun. We then walked through Pak Khlong Talat, the 24hr flower market, which left Aurelija completely bewil by @borishamilton
Day 3 - Thursday March 12, 2026 We started our day by heading to Sukhumvit to meet up with @rammynarula for a coffee. Rammy and I have known each other online for over ten years, but never met in person. Back in 2015 I sent him some Harry Gruayeart books that weren't available in Thailand. As a thank you, he sent me over a print of his. In 2024, a year where I had time to focus on my photography extensively, he offered to be my creative coach. This is undoubtedly a simplified way of putting it. What he did was make me ask myself some pertinent questions, as well as regain focus when life would try and get in the way. I can highly recommend joining his online classes. The chat over coffee was great and flowed easily. I look forward to our next encounter. We then followed his recommendation and headed to nearby Benjakitti forest (slide 1). This park didn't exist back when I lived in BKK in 2010-12. It's good to see BKK creating some new green spaces. However, that day no trees could help with the weather. It was our first day of proper sticky, hot and humid conditions. From the park, we walked up to Nana Chard Pier to catch a river ferry along Saen Saep Khlong - khlong means canal in Thai (slides 2-4). The Chao Phraya taxi ferries are much more popular, but the ones along the canal are much more fun. They're also one of the fastest ways in the city to travel east to west or vice versa. We got off at the last stop, at the foot of Wat Saket Ratchawora Mahawihan, also known as the Golden Mount Temple, probably most famous for its views. (slides 5,6) After a much needed ice-cream, we proceeded to walk east on a fairly epic walk through small sois on Khlong Thom. Despite living here for two years, I had never taken time to explore the city this extensively. (slides 7-13) At some point, we ended up at a Muslim graveyard near Maha Nak Jami Mosque. We ventured through tiny alleys of what was visibly a Muslim community to connect back with the main road. (slides 14, 15) We crossed Phadung Krum Kasem and headed towards Ratchathewi station. We crossed the rail tracks, going through a very poor area, observing hawkers preparing their street carts for the evening. (sl by @borishamilton
Bangkok Day 2 -  Wednesday, March 11, 2026 The day started off with me feeling dizzy. Not a good sign. So we decided to take the opportunity to do our laundry. While waiting in our room Aurelija decided to phone Emirates Customer Services. After waiting for an hour to be connected, she got through to someone, explained the situation and then ran out of phone credit and was cut off. Great.  Gutted, she headed downstairs to put the laundry in the dryer and as I was feeling better, I decided to try my luck with Emirates. I got through much faster. Explanations done, I was told there were flights for Friday night.  -We'll take them.  -Please wait while I confirm the seats... A few minutes go by. -Please hold sir... Oh, sorry sir, the seats have been taken. -When are the next ones available? -Sunday night.  -OK, please try and get us those.  -Yes, sir. Please bear with me while I confirm the booking.  A few minutes go by.  -Just a moment sir. Please wait. This sounds painfully familiar I think to myself.  Aurelija had since returned from her laundry mission and I quickly briefed her on the situation. -Sorry sir, they've gone too.  -Ok, Monday? -Monday is full sir.  -Tuesday? -There are seats. Let me try again. We wondered how long this would go on for. If this failed should we just ask for seats further ahead instead of the next available ones? -All booked sir. Your flight departing Bangkok is on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.  -Thank you! We had clean clothes and a set return date. For the moment at least.  In any case we knew we weren't going anywhere for another six days. Time to get out of the room. As I had a dizzy spell in the morning, I didn't fancy venturing too far. So we headed north on foot to Chatuchak market, even though most of it was closed. We then walked through Chatuchak park and Aurlelija saw her first monitor lizard. There were a few other people walking, but most were joggers. At the north end of the park a crowd had gathered: an outdoor fitness class was about to start. The music blasted out some speakers and the crowd obediently followed the instructions of the mic'd up trainer. Aurelija was surprised at how popular the class by @borishamilton
We got to Bangkok in the evening and checked into our hotel in my old neighborhood of Saphan Kwai where I lived from 2010 until 2012. A lot had changed, but despite visible gentrification, it had preserved some of its grit.  Our first mission in Bangkok was to head to the Emirates customer services office. It was Tuesday morning and our orignal departure was scheduled for Thursday night. We arrived shortly after the offices opened, but a large crowd was already present, most sat in plastic chairs laid out by Emirates in these exceptional circumstances. People had numbered tickets in their hands so we expected we'd be told to come back in the afternoon. After 15 mins of queuing we were met by member of staff.  -When is your flight?  -In the night from Thursday to Friday.  -OK. Here's your ticket. Please come back with it for your appointment on Saturday afternoon. -But we will have missed our scheduled flights.  -Yes, I know. Come back Saturday around 3pm. We'll see then.  Nothing to be done. The realisation that our return date was out of our hands hit us. Until then, best take it day by day and try and make the most of it.  Onto another mission: trying to get my broken camera lever fixed. We headed to Mega Plaza Saphan Lek. Compared to those around Siam square, this is one outdated shopping mall. We headed to the top floor where the camera technicians surrounded by piles of old gear were busy at work. I got told to head to the shop in the corner where I could possibly be helped. But alas, the screw I needed was very particular, and as my camera model generally didn't break, spare parts were uncommon. Two missions attempted, two failed. Time to show Aurelija some of the city.  We exited the mall and explored the neighbouring areas on foot. We headed west through Wang Burapha towards the royal palace (images 1-3), up north along the Rop Krung canal (image 4), then east through the old town (images 5-7), before heading south along the canal (images 8, 9).  All portraits taken with consent. Phrae, Thailand - March 2026 After my rough night, we headed south on the highway to Phrae. We checked into our hotel and the owner gave us a map of the town and kindly pointed out some of the sights we could check out. Our stay also happened to be on the weekend when a local festivity was going on. We went on a long walk through the quiet streets of the town. Pretty sure it was a Sunday, so the vibe was particularly quiet. We eventually looped around and ended up at the square where the festival was taking place. In typical Thai fashion, there was plenty of food, some of it very traditional. The gentleman I am, I offered to buy Aurelija a bag of fried insects, but she declined, and instead watched a couple of kids share a bag while we watched some of the local talents sing songs on stage. We didn't stay out long though, both feeling tired after the previous night's ordeal. At the start of the day we thought we had two more nights before flying back to Bangkok, but we were mistaken. This was our last night. We decided we'd spend the next morning exploring more of the town before driving back to Nan to drop off the rental car and take our flights. More in next caption. Unfortunately, things didn't go to plan. After a delicious, plentiful breakfast at the hotel, we checked out and drove a couple of kms north and parked the car to explore on foot. I immediately spotted a cat on a wall and stopped for a photo. It took me ages to "focus" (the photo actually came out OOF). I turned around and started to walk towards Aurelija and within a few steps could barely keep my balance. The acute vertigo was coming back. I did my best to stop it, but it was impossible. 20 mins later, I was again rendered useless. Simply opening my eyes would cause me to throw up. I lay on the side of the road for about an hour, spewing in gutter every 15mins. Aurelija wanted to call an ambulance. At this point a lady came out a shop and asked what was happening. I managed to suggest we ask her to drive us back to our hotel. She accepted. Our first hero of the day. I made it back without being sick and Aurelija and the kind hotel owner carried me to a room. I was sick some more, and eventual by @borishamilton
