Growing up in Borno State, I always dreamed of telling the stories of my community, stories of its people, culture, struggles, and resilience. Having experienced the devastating impact of the Boko Haram insurgency firsthand, this dream became a calling. Personally, I feel a deep responsibility to document the untold realities of my people and to share their voices with the world.

The Boko Haram insurgency, which began in 2009 in northeastern Nigeria, has left an indelible mark on Borno State, displacing millions and claiming countless lives. For over a decade, the group has waged a campaign of violence, targeting civilians, infrastructure, and institutions.

In this documentary trailer, we hear directly from the victims, those who lost loved ones, homes, and dreams. As well as from community leaders, humanitarian workers, and government officials working tirelessly to restore normalcy.

Echoes of Peace in Borno sheds light on the untold stories of resilience, courage, and rebuilding in the wake of Boko Haram’s insurgency.

Special thanks to everyone in who contributed to making this possible.

One of the most beautiful views I captured during our visit with Pedro’s Premium Ogogoro during the BINI RIVA Life festival here in Koko Camp, Warri Nigeria. This is the main root and heart of where authentic ogogoro is made. We came here to document the true story behind how this traditional spirit is crafted, from the source to the bottle.

I produced this documentary during the Building Bridges Residency Program, an experience that challenged me like never before and has been truly transformative for my growth as a creative.

My sincere gratitude goes to Dike Chukwumerije for organizing such impactful programs, to Mrs. Miriam for her guidance and support throughout the residency, and to @simplypoetryfoundation for making this initiative possible. I also extend my appreciation to @fordfoundation for funding this incredible opportunity. This program has not only shaped my creative journey but also reinforced the power of storytelling to connect and inspire communities.

I hope every creative gets the chance to participate in such a meaningful and life-changing initiative. taken in Abuja, Nigeria by @bornostoryteller

Falmata Abubakar fled her hometown of Bama during the insurgency and found refuge in Maiduguri. For the past 10 years, she has lived alone in a small house near Fori Bridge, trying to rebuild her life. But the recent flood caused heavy destruction, washing away everything she had worked hard for. Now, Falmata is starting over again, staying hopeful as she faces these challenges. taken in Maiduguri Borno Nigeria by @bornostoryteller
