My entry to the Udo • Lafiya • Àláfíà
Art Competition Arts for a safer Nigeria.
Acrylic on canvas
91.44 cm × 121.92 cm

One Path. One Homeland.
This is the Nigeria I still believe in.
A quiet path at golden hour.
Women carrying life on their heads.
Children walking freely to school.
Elders moving with dignity.
And at the centre a pastor and an imam walking side by side toward the same light.

I come from Maiduguri.
I have seen enough violence to last a lifetime.
So I choose not to paint it.
Instead, I paint the village that simply works:
a school, a hospital, a police station, solar lights, and the freedom to return home.
This work is my prayer for
Udo • Lafiya • Àláfíà
Peace in every language.
Safety for every community.
A Nigeria that serves its people.
One path.
One homeland.
One peace.

Our visits to UNFPA and Borno State Police Command Headquarters as SpeakUp 20 Cohorts were insightful. We learned more about SGBV prevention, reporting, survivor support, and the power of using our voices for change. 💙✊🏾

Understanding SGBV part 2 : Starts with knowing the signs, speaking up, and supporting survivors. Together, we can break the silence and end violence. #SpeakUp20 #EndSGBV #speakup20

Understanding SGBV part 1 starts with knowing that everyone deserves safety, dignity, and respect. Speak up against sexual and gender-based violence, support survivors, and be part of the solution.

Say NO to SGBV. Speak up. Stand up.

Art can entertain us. It can move us. But what happens when it also challenges the way we see one another?

The Building Bridges Project for Creatives brings together artists from across Nigeria to explore how creativity can confront polarisation, challenge bigotry and help build a more cohesive society.

Five cohorts and 60 creatives later, the bridge continues to grow—with every story told, every collaboration formed, and every conversation sparked.
