28 years later and I don’t have many words left for what October 4th means to me.

I’ve spent 28 years unraveling and untangling every single unpleasant feeling in me tied to my Father.

This year I try and focus on the salves that soothe the wound that his presence and departure left me.

I’ve found comfort in having a friend that understand what it means to mourn for a little girl who lost a bad man she was supposed to call “dad” too early to really put together words for how that made her feel. While I wish she didn’t understand, I’m grateful to have her by my side.

I’m celebrating having a daughter that I love with every single cell in my body. I am focusing on showing her that I love her and I love being her Mami.

I’m cherishing a partner/husband that is a devoted Father. A loving Papi. A doting Dad. A supportive husband. I know that my little girl will never EVER question his love for her.

I am finding much joy with a friend as we geek out about children’s toys and collectibles. It’s been really fun and healing for that part of me that’s still a little girl at heart.

Lastly, recognizing that where there is death there is also life. I am reminding myself that October 4th is also a day to celebrate the birth and life of a friend I hold so near and dear to my heart.

I no longer mourn for the man who died in the way that I once did. It’s not my loss. He missed out on me; and frankly I’m pretty great. by @bossa_novaaa

Most days I ask Avery “do you want one or two braids?”

Today her answer was “FOUR!” as she held up four fingers for me.

So I obliged. I have never claimed to be good at hair…but this is cute! by @bossa_novaaa
