As part of the deepened partnership with @massgeneralbrigham (MGB), EMK and MGB train students in five pathways: Nursing; Emergency Medical Services; Medical Imaging; Perioperative Services; and Biotechnology.Students benefit from EMK’s rigorous academic program and holistic approach that offers them social and emotional support and intellectual development. We’ll celebrate them each day over the next few weeks, highlighting a little about what makes them so special. Josiah Quincy Upper School: Joseph V. KasongoA native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph has been a STEM star at Quincy Upper. He founded and captained the school's Robotics Team, which he led to the Rookie All-Star Award at its first competition. His STEM skills have earned him the Keolis Scholarship and the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship. He will attend Washington University in St. Louis on a full scholarship with plans to major in systems and electrical engineering. He will be the first person in his family to attend college. Madison Park Technical Vocational High School: Gabriel PimentelA native of the Dominican Republic, Gabriel has excelled in the classroom, earning a 4.43 GPA in his studies that included honors-level coursework at Madison Park and dual-enrollment classes at Bunker Hill Community College. Madison Park named him Student Vocational of the Year, and he is a member of the National Honor Society. He also is completing an internship at the Boston Inspectional Services Department, where he continues to apply his academic knowledge, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills in a professional setting. He Plans to attend Northeastern University on a full scholarship. Margarita Muñiz Academy: Alexandra Cornejo AvendanoAlex moved to Boston from her native Peru when she was 2 and went on to spend the entirety of her K-12 education in BPS. Not only is she a stellar student, but she also has been a member of the Margarita Muniz Academy Book Club and two concert bands, while working part-time. She plans to attend UMass Amherst on a full scholarship and study biomedical engineering. King South End Academy: Josia James DuboseHaving spent the entirety of his K-12 education in BPS, Josia has transformed over the last four years from a quiet student who avoided engagement into a leader of his school community. "Jo" graduates with a love of reading and literature and a legacy of spirited service to the school pantry and main office. He will participate in the NExT program (Navigating Employment and Transition) in the fall. She plans to attend Dartmouth College as a Questbridge Scholar and study neuroscience or biology on the pre-med track. A Bloomberg Arts Institute internship he worked last summer has fueled his dreams of becoming an artist -- either on-paper or digitally.
