A night game I painted some years ago. I enjoyed the drama of the vast stadium through the winter trees. Second image - The Champions!

A series of paintings of Beaulieu Estate, made over a year. The weather and the seasons were key elements in such exposed land next to the sea, and it was a real joy to see spring at Palace House, the falconer and the New Forest ponies too. Painting Buckler's Hard, where Nelson's HMS Agamemnon was built, was very special. I got to go in Chitty chitty bang bang - it turns out it's an automatic as Dick van Dyke didn't do gears. The paintings will be on show at Buckler's Hard for a couple of weeks from 25th April before being sent to their new home in the USA

My new show, 'BARBICAN, VENICE AND THE SEA' opens at Portland Gallery on Wednesday. I love that both the Barbican and Venice are precious enough to save and value as they are - in our throwaway world there is a reassuring presence about these places that are here to stay. A bit of fun with our cat and a gluggle jug. I like the complementary colours of yellow and purple, and enjoyed echoing the curvy rythms of the cat's tale, the door handle and the curves of the jug. The composition was a real struggle with so little space between stuff, but I think it works now.
