Sara J. Sobota's chapbook, Heart Zones, is available from Bottlecap Press!

Sara didn’t know she needed running. But when the young mother and freelance writer starts training for a marathon relay, she’s hooked. She finds time, between changing diapers and play dates, to run out the door in 30-minute increments a few times a week. For two decades she keeps it up, running the same path in the same neighborhood as her children grow, her writing evolves, and her perspective expands.

Sara J. Sobota is a writer based in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She holds an M.F.A. in nonfiction from the Bennington Writing Seminars. Her work appears in the literary anthology Write Home: Letters to a Younger Me and The Villa, A Myrtle Beach Story. Sara’s memoir, Is This Part of the Program?, has been supported by the South Carolina Arts Commission. She teaches at Coastal Carolina University.

Frederick Livingston's chapbook, Butterfly Roots, is available from Bottlecap Press!

These poems grew from conservation programs brought into prisons across the American West. We propagated native seedlings to revegetate damaged lands. We reared larvae of endangered butterflies to reestablish wild populations.

Moving through barbed coils, long corridors, and heavy doors, I struggled to imagine the day weeds claim the crumbling walls. I did not want sustainability programs to sustain prisons, to merely paint concrete green.

But expanding our refugia, as forests do after fire, could we stitch the edges of our efforts together until correctional facilities become unrecognizable? Until the idea of containing harm within fences goes from unquestioned to absurd?

Frederick Livingston is a spoken word ecologist from the Salish Sea and Cascade Mountains. His path of words, education, and plants has taken him from mudbrick classrooms to prisons, wilderness, and beyond. His previous collections include “Trees are Bridges to the Sky” and “The Moon and Other Fruits.”

Thomas DeJosia's chapbook, Kaleidoscope, is available from Bottlecap Press!

Kaleidoscope is a whimsical and highly imaginative chapbook of poems that explores thematic elements of art, philosophy, physics, love, nature, and the nature of writing through an unorthodox use of language and syntax in an almost Seussical rhythm.

This chapbook of poems will challenge the reader to explore ideas and think differently. Thomas DeJosia fundamentally rips apart the English language through word repetition, non-linear sentences, enigmatic insights, and poetic philosophical humor. He re-creates a new model of reality by consciously using language that draws attention to its form. The way that light goes into a Kaleidoscope and creates fractals, is the same way that Thomas uses language to create patterns.

Thomas DeJosia is a writer and filmmaker from Long Island, New York. He earned a B.A. in the Riggio Honors: Writing and Democracy program from The New School. He studied Screenwriting for Film and Television at The New York Film Academy. His poetry & fiction have appeared in Silenced Press, East of the Web, Short Fiction Break, and Marriage Cat Magazine. Thomas wrote and directed three short films (all credited as Tommy DeJosia).

Marta Núñez Pouzols's chapbook, Waiting Rooms, is available from Bottlecap Press!

Waiting Rooms is a kaleidoscope of words that combine into memories yearning to disintegrate back into the psychedelic surface of language. In this hybrid collection, Marta’s pieces explore memories that connect her childhood to her adolescence in urban Southern Spain, from the distance imposed by navigating adulthood in English, her second language, and living in the American South. Waiting Rooms is a nomadic party that itinerates through the cruel generosity of public spaces: swimming pools, movie theaters, holiday parades, baroque fountains, and the hidden corners of city parks. A party that must continue because we’ve been locked out and no one can find the keys.

Waiting Rooms’ language expands and contracts. From the contemplative awe of words in isolation to yearning yet humorous narratives of self-making, Marta draws parallelisms between existing across two languages and the impossible but necessary task of translating experience into memory. More importantly, Waiting Rooms is a celebration of friendship and its ability to simultaneously dilate time and create a referential continuity that allows us to unravel against all odds.

Marta Núñez Pouzols is a writer and translator from Andalusia, Spain. She lives in Durham, North Carolina. She co-authored the bilingual collection of poems Pronombres siderales/Starry Selves (Turba, 2019). Her poems can be found in DREGINALD, mercury firs, Works & Days, the tiny, peel lit, and elsewhere. Marta co-curates the reading series Paradiso and organizes Moon Palace, a horizontal writers’ workshop in Durham, NC. She also writes critical pieces and reviews on film and sound.

david moses diaz's chapbook, steps to losing, is available from Bottlecap Press!

these poems were written because they asked to be. they were written at a desk or on a couch or in a garage as snapshots of chronotopes instead of unnamed specks of dust or dark matter outlining wander-er. They were written because grief is a burden & a blessing. because there’s so much else to be upset about, and these indulgences make the lack of lighted room a lot less darkness. because sometimes, un-like someone once advised, things are allowed to just be sad.

like standing in a room or by a liquor store or near a dying avocado tree, these poems and photos tread water between on-purpose and proustian since nostalgia is only dangerous if you refuse to grow.

david is a writer and educator from Los Angeles who holds an MFA from CSU Long Beach. His poetry has been published by Tia Chucha Press, San Pedro River Review, Querencia Press, Acentos Review, Curious Publishing, and Tiny Splendor, and his freelance journalism can be found at L.A. Taco and the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Jolynn Freed Regan's chapbook, Just North of Malibu, is available from Bottlecap Press!

Come with me, Just North of Malibu, and dive into my debut poetry chapbook showcasing the breathtaking beauty of seaside paradise, Malibu, California. Malibu is iconic in her reputation as a fabled beachfront town, an exclusive enclave for the rich, famous, private and privileged. Living here for the past thirty years, my poems reflect the Malibu I know, a destination for nature lovers, surfers on the hunt, families raising children and animals running wild.

My poetry flows into mythical Los Angeles, a vibrant and diverse metropolis, sprawling with cultural heritage, famous landmarks and everyday wonders that ooze Hollywood history. Part elegy and part call to resistance, Just North of Malibu explores the dichotomies of these two dynamic cities ~ their beauty and despair, their apathy and protest, their fame and addiction, as they interlock in the soul intimacy connection of poetry.

Now, let’s jump in, Just North of Malibu.

Jolynn Freed Regan was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. She moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and immersed herself in the local poetry scene. Freed Regan’s poems have been read from Fargo to Phoenix, New York to LA. She recently won the Berlin Poetry Society’s “Small Magic” poetry contest with her poem, “Flower Shower”. Freed Regan has served as a featured reader for the Los Angeles Poetry Society, Jubilation poetry events and for the past six years has served as a featured reader at the City of Malibu’s Annual Poetry Summit. Her work is featured in Transformations, A Place Like This and All Breathing Things Poetry Anthologies. Freed Regan teaches poetry to elementary, middle and high school students alongside her mentor, Ricardo Means Ybarra. She is a regular contributor to the “Verse About Town” program, featuring her poems in public spaces. by @bottlecappress

Piper Rasmussen's chapbook, Fuzzy Slippers: An Alternate Timeline, is available from Bottlecap Press!

Part museum tour, part speculative autofiction, all poetry: Fuzzy Slippers: An Alternate Timeline explores the gravitational pull of partnership and parenthood. It has poems on butterflies, wine books, model trains, a roller coaster, Jane Austen screen adaptations, and the Hall of Minerals at the American Museum of Natural History. Each exerts an influence over a woman’s path to choosing and making a family.

Sly sincerity and a cheeky sense of humor fill Fuzzy Slippers and carry this collection away into the unknown. This chapbook speaks to the delights and horrors of going with the flow, step by pillowy step.

Piper Rasmussen (she/her) is a Manhattan-based poet and nonprofit data person. Her writing has appeared in Rust & Moth, Kyoto Journal, orangepeel, Shot Glass Journal, and other literary magazines, as well as in place-based poetry anthology Writing the Land: Horizons. Kyra Spence's chapbook, Marty's Walk, is available from Bottlecap Press!

The poems of Marty’s Walk are written “inside the shape of longing,” out of “dream geography,” and from “the other world,” which is also “this one.” The work maps intimate histories and local mythologies through signs, incarnations, and atmospheres. Spence encounters and externalizes emotional conditions in landscapes haunted by physical and emotional specters.

In those landscapes, desire animates and bewilders—desire, above all, to look and truly see, to listen and to be heard, to belong to a scene, to have “any story” to make sense of the dark. The speaker attempts, over and over, to communicate with entities that may or may not be listening: the illustration of man on a billboard, figures in memory, characters in dreams, the buried boy, in turn positing the poem as the place for an otherwise impossible form of communication.

Kyra Spence is a writer from Philadelphia. Her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in DIAGRAM, Bodega Magazine, Bennington Review, New Ohio Review, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and with Tess Carroll, she is the co-creator of the podcast Rummage World. by @bottlecappress

Abriana Jetté's chapbook, Persephone Responds, is available from Bottlecap Press!

What does it mean to belong to the dead? What does it mean to belong to the living? What does it mean to belong to oneself?

In Persephone Responds, Abriana Jetté offers a lyric reimagining of myth and an intimate reckoning with memory, desire, grief, and the terms of return. The dead ride along in back seats, mothers grieve and rage, lovers cross rivers, and the body becomes both evidence and inheritance.

Tender and unsparing, playful and devastating, these poems ask what it costs to leave, what it means to return, and whether becoming oneself might require learning to live among the ghosts of everything we have been told to be.

Abriana Jetté is an award-winning internationally published writer whose work has been supported by the New Jersey State Council for the Arts, the Sewanee Writers Conference, the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley, and has appeared in Teachers & Writers Magazine, Best New Poets, PLUME, Tampa Review, Poetry New Zealand and other places. She is the Editor-in-Chief at the Journal of Creative Writing Studies and a Senior Lecturer at Kean University. She lives in New Jersey with her daughter.
