Borough to attend @central_photobooks & @boundartbookfair this October!

We’re really excited to be in a new part of the country showing work as part of Central Photobook Fair, running October 23rd - 24th. We have readings planned for the Friday Afterparty, delivered by @jakeofbarnsley & @sambatley, who will be performing selected poems. We will also be launching Songs of the Borough Vol.2 and offering a plethora of other Borough Staples.

We’re incredibly humbled to be attending the 10th anniversary of Bound Art Book fair, running October 31st - November 1st. We’ll be bringing a selection of Borough Staples, as well as some new for fair material.

Both fairs are free to enter over the weekend, where you’ll be able to engage with a range of quality talks and events from practitioners within the community and industry.

Five years ago, @lewis.khan happened to pass by as hordes of teenagers, bowtied, glossed and glittering, spilled out of their high school prom in South London. The scene—one of elation, exhaustion, giddiness and hope—inspired a four-year-long project that saw Khan reach out to the school in question for permission to take portraits and video material within the prom itself. Over the years, capturing students during this right of passage became a ritual, with Kahn sensitively but imaginatively capturing the full spectrum of the evening, from the initial awkwardness of the red carpet entrance, to the heat of the dancefloor, and the eventual surfacing out into the night. The result is Leavers, a tender 8mm video work soundtracked by Lara George and narrated by poet and author Caleb Femi.

For many, a high school prom presents a unique social spectacle where all previous conventions, alliances and disputes are either upended or discarded. With a shared cognition that this is likely the last time a group will share a room together, inhibitions dissipate, risk dissolves into temptation, and senses are heightened. It is also, perhaps most importantly, a theatre for self expression, for looking your absolute best, and sharing your culture in ways that the traditional school structure does not allow. It allows young people to define themselves to their peers in a way wholly unrelated to classroom dynamics, obedience or scholarship.

We were thrilled to present a site-specific, multi-channel version of Leavers as part of this year’s public programme, taking over the basement at @ad_england. Those of you in/near London can look forward to seeing Leavers as part of Khan’s upcoming solo presentation at @1014.gallery

Building Spaces for Publishing: Conversations Across Book Fairs
26 November 2025, 6.30 PM GMT (Online)

Photo London hosts a conversation with Maia Asshaq (@maia_and_books), Director of Fairs and Editions at Printed Matter (@printedmatterinc), and Lillian Wilkie (@lillianwilkie), writer, editor and co director of Bound Art Book Fair (@boundartbookfair). Moderated by Ben Goulder (@bengoulder), the event brings together experience from two distinct contexts, from long established international fairs to regional platforms that are building new audiences.

The discussion will consider how book fairs operate at different scales and how they support publishing communities. It will explore the differences between book fairs and art fairs, the ways in which fairs create space for conversation and discovery, and how these values shape the wider culture of contemporary publishing. The session will also look at audience formation, approaches to curation and the continued influence of small press practice within the broader art landscape.
